Mostly in small towns where people are bored, though I understand offices (like schools) are rife with this crap as well.

One way I've kept such people to a minimum is if someone keeps talking crap about someone we know then I cut that person out because I figure they're talking crap about me behind my back as well (and they usually will). Generally speaking (exceptions possible depending on specifics), I'll refuse to get to know someone who tries to bond with me by complaining about others and/or about how everyone they knew messed up their lives as again I know it's only a matter of time before they complain about me and/or my messing up their life as well.

The story of my life lol, thats why I moved to NYC so I didnt have to deal with people being so nosey and hypercritical of things you do (or the way you look). I have a bohemian type personality which thrives better in a much bigger city with less judgement.

Very common in restaurants too. Some people like creating drama out of boredom or jealousy. Also in that atmosphere, late nights, alcohol and high stress create a high pressure environment. I've seen it and it has happened to me.

I love being in my 30's now though. Rarely do people in my peer group stoop to this crap.

In my first year of university I lived with a Single White Female. Pretty much everything that happened in that movie happened in my life during that year,

Minus the murder.

Aquaguy, quick note of apology if I seemed annoyed with you on the suck-up thread. I quoted you when my comment wasn't even directed at you...just a mistake. I hope you can forgive me.

My sister has done a lot of stuff against me. Her sun-moon-Mercury falls in my 12H. A few years ago she said she was engaged and I called BS. She said she eloped and I just dug my heels in saying she was lying. My whole family turned on me, said there was just something cruel about me because I didn't want my sister to be happy...I had to hear ALL KINDS of personal criticism.

And I was nice to my sister through the whole thing. I offered to send her money or whatever she needed to get back on her feet.

When my siblings finally figured out that she had totally lied about the whole wedding and the guy, I didn't really get an apology. I love them all, but they justified their treatment of me by saying, "Well 'Faith' has always just been mean to (my sister)." They STILL don't realize that she's been lying and manipulating things since I was a teenager. She's nine years older than me.

Happily estranged from my sister now, even though I have to worry about her mental health and well-being. Because I still love her even after all this cr*p.

For me, this is just a part of life, people love to talk about other people, comes with the territory.

Both sexes engage in it, for a host of reasons, everything from jealousy to boredom to attraction or dislike.

I do think there is a legit place for this when someone is doing badly and it is a sort of subtle "if you have a chance, they are going in bad way, could probably use the help"

I have dealt with it everyday throughout my whole career. Get used to it.

It is a cut throat world. When I had my first job, the boss pulled the classic military nonsense. "Look to the left of you; look to the right of you; one out of the three of you will survive this first year." It's an environment of forced competition and only the strongest survive.

I've spent my whole 26 year career removing knives from my back at the end of each day.

Just do what you can do. Always do your best. Mind your own business and keep your nose clean. The jealous ones will find that whatever stunts they pull will come back to haunt them. However, let it be known that I didn't survive corporate chain elimination by being passive about things. be proactive and take pride in your work. No one can take that away from you.

Hmm. I know one other person just like my sister; they both lie about me, both wedge themselves into conversations I'm having, trying to charm the other person and flaunt that the person likes them better than me.

They are so similar I looked at both of their charts. Both have Mars and Saturn squaring my sun. And the one person's NN is conjunct my sister's sun-moon-Mercury.

Kinda freaky.

I think at the end of the day, the hardest thing to understand is some people will back stab..simply to back stab.

No financial gain or what have you, some folks just like screwing people over.

Oh yeah in my business there is gain.

Come lay off time, the popular ones keep their jobs. The unpopular ones are kicked to the curb.

Same with bonus time. Whoever shines the boss' shoes best and have the brownest noses may not get the biggest bonus, but all the big bonuses recipients are popular with the boss for sure.

yeah... I suppose it's 2nd nature to some people. Also certain environments can be heavily prone especially academia.

It's a shame though that no matter how clean you keep your nose, people will do whatever it takes to try to ruin you. It's definitely a dog eat dog world but sometimes you have to wonder why it always happens? I know for myself I am a decent person, I'm not the most pious but I do have morals. I treat people the way I want to be treated & expect the same. If i don't feel like I'm getting back what I give, I just don't bother with that person anymore. Drama can suck the life away from you and I believe if I was to give back what I received, people would be ready to burn me at the stake. I know what my other side can be like....it wouldn't be pretty. Lol

My favorite situation is a room of four bachelors, and a pretty single bachelorette walks into the room... best of friends quickly become the biggest smack talkers... lol

Honestly YTA, it depends on how weak those 4 bachelors are as that is the opposite of a leadership type.

Pretty much they are little puppies as there are plenty of attractive single females outside of that situation.

Would be a great character insight though

Yeah. Those leadership qualities get superceded whenever the blood flows downwards.

Even my own dad when he was alive would flap his feathers like a peacock when estrogen entered a room.
