I don't want to live like 80 years. God, save me this torture. I'm pretty sure I wouldn't be and energetic, self-sufficient old lady, not with my crappy health. I want to die in my late 60's at the latest. That would be a good time to end the show. Anyone feels the same?------------------ I'm sooo happy! I mean, cappy. IP: Logged |

Let me know as well lol! But honestly I kinda feel the same way as cappy. I don't want to live past 70. The idea that my body will look like its melting, or having to need someone else to wipe my a55, and wear diapers ,dentures, health issues, ugh its too much for me to bare . WahhIP: Logged |

Thank you juniperb. By the criteria others have posted here for not wanting to live past 60 or 80..... kind of creeps me out because by their views I should just go kill myself; or done it 24 years ago Edit to add: I mean that if they were in my situation sounds like they would not want to live.IP: Logged |

Well, from my experience if you pick up good habits now they really serve you well later in life.Creativity, activity, curiosity, they are like youth tonics. IP: Logged |

My grandpa just passed last month and my grandmother a few years ago.He was a Marine in WWII. He had been married to my grandmother (also a Marine) since WWII. She passed away at 89. Grandpa passed away at 91, in his sleep, in his favorite recliner the night after a week-long family reunion. They both lived at home until their deaths with no nurses. My other surviving grandmother is 79 now, I think. She lives in her own house with her little yappy dogs and still drives. <3 My boss is 61 and he's in better shape than most 40 year olds I know. So, no, I wouldn't want to die in my 60's. I hope to be as lucky as my grandparents and stay reasonably active well into my 80's and 90's. And if the health isn't so great I would like to be at least mentally active!

Here is what I've found:As age moves on people, they deliberately close their worlds off and focus on the comfortable, the familiar, the known. New ideas and ways of looking at things become instantly attacked, untrusted and unexamined. Experience then becomes a sort of straight jacket that binds the present with the past. Flexibility is eschewed, and life becomes a dull drag of the same thing each day, every day. Used to hang out with the sort of "Prepper" crowd, know it well. It occured to me that their lives were the definition of fearful existence. Sitting among hoarded rice and beans waiting for some disaster to strike and thus validating their choices. They were willing to learn hard skills like welding and butchering and gardening etc. So flipped and hung out with the sort of youth/young professional/hipster crowd and got to know them well. Entitled, intellectually arrogant, vapid and shallow etc. BUT, they were willing to learn new skills that interested them and we capable of amazing focus on them. From cooking to fashion to technology in those things they were quite flexible. The two are not as far apart as they may think they are, such a division is a device. Point being, to stay young one has to be willing to be flexible. For example what if for one day you examine everything you think you know as if it were all wrong? Or seriously examined what a detractor of those beliefs had to say? This is one of the reasons why I'll examine what a Richard Dawkins has to say about Religion to test what I believe. Now imo, there are few things more pathetic then an older person trying to dress and act like someone 20 yrs younger, that is a sure sign of desperation not flexibility. IP: Logged |

No, I want to live to be as old as the hills and compeltely alert when I die...I want to take all the experience back with me that I can and I do not plan on coming back for another round. Many folks, who know me really well, tell me they see me, very old sitting on my front porch with a long grey braid and a shot gun to ward off critters.... Yea..... sounds lovely to me! IP: Logged |

I'm not afraid of not being able to keep up with the world's progress. I think I would cope with it pretty well but that would require a clear mind. It's not something all the old people have. There is Alzheimer's disease, dementia and other crap.I could handle being wrinkled but not being trapped in a nonfunctional body. ------------------ I'm sooo happy! I mean, cappy. IP: Logged |

What I don't want is to be put in one of those gulags for the elderly. I've already been in one for teens, it's not an experience I want to repeat. I've seen it and don't feel like recounting. I'll just say this doesn't shock me at all: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbIVoof9WTY IP: Logged |

God and the Universe willing, my husband and I will age together. We will raise our girls and build or house to accommodate our family. I fully anticipate an extension for my mother as she ages. She will have only those responsibilities she desires (I'm sure she'll want a garden), her family near, and freedom to do as she wishes. I hope she travels and takes some art classes, all passions in her youth. Then, ideally, one or more of our children and perhaps her/their family will take over this house. We will move into the "elder extension". With few responsibilities and hopefully some health, we will then learn and explore the community and the world. I could totally dig that. ------------------ If I've included this sig, it's because I'm posting from a mobile device. Please excuse all outrageous typos and confusing auto-corrects. IP: Logged |
