I guess each of us sees what we want to see based upon our internalized feelings; however, as the Admin here, I have to be impartial and see things from all vantage points. I see more sharing than ever before here, as it's not just among a small close-knit clique like in 2010 and prior (which intimidated Newflakes), but the sharing is now across-the-board.
What you see now doesn't automatically invalidate the experience of a group of your users. You are welcome to feel I am wrong, it's your view. I am simply stating that your view is limited if you feel what you are seeing is the whole story (even being an admin). Close knit groups are good, they bring users back to your site. Online communities are specifically for finding groups of people with similar interests. My point is not to say that I miss whatever cliques formed in SP (I was not part of any clique to my knowledge, yet seemed to frequent SP without feeling intimidated). To be blunt, I am saying the drastic action of uprooting SP (and possibly DD) caused damage to more users than just that clique. You essentially tossed the baby out with the bathwater. No matter how much you pat yourself on the back for dispersing that clique, you are still responsible for the way your actions effected the users you uprooted.
I didn't say people don't share anymore, posting is sharing. What your comment fails to address is that a very beneficial environment was created within which a clique happened to go about their clique-ing. Instead of targeting the specific clique members and dealing with them, you dropped a nuke on the whole room. Now there is a new environment and it is nowhere as rich as its predecessor. This is not coming from an admin perspective, but the perspective of a user who frequented the room almost every day. I'm all for Uranus, but part of the moving forward process is seeing clearly the destruction responsible. Your response sounds a bit like you either don't know or don't care that your actions effected more people than just the clique you were targeting.
What's done to SP is done and rehashing it all becomes exceedingly pointless. I hope we will know how to better deal with intimidating people in the future.
Which brings me back to another group of "close knit" users posting inappropriately and intimidating your users. Some of your mods are spectacular Randall and others make this community tolerable at best. As for being impartial, you can't do that convincingly while moderators also pay for advertising on your site. It puts you in a position where disciplining a mod also means potentially losing an investor. It's not something I personally care about, but at a certain point that never spells out impartiality.
