Sounds like you're getting robo-calls. What happens is that businesses will have a computer call several numbers at once, and the first to pick up with a live person gets transferred to a live operator who tries to sell them something (or scam them). See if your country has a "no-call" list for businesses, and if so, get on it. Here in the States only charities (and I think political calls) are allowed to spam your phone after that. 'Course some ignore the laws, and I know I've gotten a handful of spammers from India trying our number (who can defeat caller ID, though I had to laugh when the Indian could barely speak English yet my Caller ID said they were Microsoft in Washington). Almost invariably these scam artists would call relentlessly (and sometimes every few minutes) until they got a live operator who'd then claim they detected a virus on my computer and want to "help" us so that if we'd done as they said then the caller would be able to hack our computer and steal our personal identities and even accounts. Usually as soon as I let them know I'm aware of their scam they took me off their sucker list, though one (the one who could barely even speak English) would keep trying even after I let him know. In his case I just told him I had to go upstairs and boot my computer, please hold, and set the phone off the hook (kept him from ripping someone else off for awhile, as well as sweet revenge in annoyance), though of course I made sure those who lived with me knew what was going on and to NOT follow his instructions. Everyone but the boy has their own phones they carry and prefer so it wasn't a problem, save the boy and I let him know that scam artists like the guy on the phone were scum and he didn't have to treat them respectfully, if he needed the phone just hang up without saying anything to make his call. I wondered if I hadn't messed up when the boy took that as license to exercise all sorts of prankish toilet humor on the scammer, but given that the scammer finally took our number off his list I now allow it. Oh, and obviously if someone calls you asking for your pin numbers or other codes, credit card numbers, etc, you do NOT give it to them. Remember, it's a scam, no matter how friendly or legite they sound, no matter that they say they're from your credit card company or whatever (they're not). (Same applies to email.) IP: Logged |

I don't think a person is calling you. I think a computer is. They call several numbers at the same time but only transfer one to a live operator (or yet another automated feature, the recorded call) while everyone else gets "dead air." And they can call over and over again because they have no respect for the people they harass. IP: Logged |

I got a wierd call today but not necessarily harrassing; I don`t think. (read Freaking Crazy in LL2) Is it a land line or cell phone? Either unplug land line or shut your cell down when you go to bed. A person with a bee in their bonnet nor computer generated poo isn`t worth you losing sleep over.------------------ Christian, Jew, Muslim, Shaman, Zoroastrian, stone, ground, mountain, river, each has a secret way of being with the Mystery, unique and not to be judged. Same thing happened to me some time ago.A hidden number kept calling me at random times and when I would pick up, there was only silence. I don't know who / what it was but it's stopped, phew. It's kind of disturbing though, because you don't know who's calling you and if it's just a joke or a computer like Pixie said.

AH! PJ, I got your post her. I never read it all and it sure would have saved me a headache had I done so. The call came in after 6 so it could, should have been a heads up.------------------ Christian, Jew, Muslim, Shaman, Zoroastrian, stone, ground, mountain, river, each has a secret way of being with the Mystery, unique and not to be judged. Oh here the companies wont do such things. We have only one company thats offering private number blocking if im not mistaken. I downloaded an app but it seems to be useless since i got another "private number" call when i was sleeping. played a bit with the options and hope it will work. IP: Logged |

Wow, it's simple here. If you are getting harassed by a robo caller, Verizon charges nothing to block it.IP: Logged |

DL sorry you are going through this. Such you are in the Middle east i think there are 1000 other reasons to for this.I changed my number when the same was happening with me. no need to think about it, and no more headaches...oh and i only shared it with those closest to me! just don't panic about it, it's really silly the people who do this or use computers to do this. For now its quiet. I have an iption on my phone to block unknown callers so it will be used from now on nights and weekends. Beyond that i rarely get calls from unknown numbers (what added to my shock once it started) Hoping for the best ^^ from now on il be sleeping quietly at night. IP: Logged |
