Visited with an old friend couple of days ago and we hung out and chatted and listened to music etc.

Was there about an hour or so when it sort of hit me, for him..time had not moved on.

Same music we listened to in the mid 90's, same stories over and over again, same interests (which he never advanced in any significant way).

Anyone else know people like this? Can recall post High School the fmr jocks would always talk about what they did in athletics, but otherwise this is all sort of new to me.

So if I'm getting this right. He stuck to what he liked in the past?

Why do you consider it as a sign of non-advancement?

May be meeting you just awaken memories of the past.

I believe we all are a little bit stuck in the past because the later molded us into what we are today.

Eh, perhaps, more he was doing everything the way he always "used" to do things.

As in, even reading the same books he'd read a thousand times before.

^ummmm..THAT is a little bit weird, I agree. I can't read a book for a second time no matter how good I initially found it.

I know folks who like to reminiscent about the past a lot but they very much like to do new things and stuff. I'm a bit like that too. I cherish good past moments and even dwell on the not too good ones too. Sometimes it's tough to let go of past hurts even if you know it's what you should do. Whatever you are describing sounds like a medical condition or something!

I really don't know what it is, suspect he just reached a level he thought "I'm happy with this (book/Film/music)" and stayed there.

For myself, I rarely recount old stuff unless it is a funny tale I know the other person has not heard before.

I'm sort of stuck in the past...sometimes I'll think of people and events and periods of life that have passed and I wish I could go back. Is a wistful, mourning feeling. One of the deepest sadnesses for me is when something is complete or over. I wish for something to be ongoing, so I can still live it, not only "look back" or "remember the good times" - that's not sating enough.

Sun exact on the IC.

I tend to go the other way SE, I'm more interested in what I'm doing now, then what I've done in the past.

Saggie part of me I'd guess, when I do look back it's to recall the good times but usually I'm doing something now that I probably enjoy more anyway.

OMG, So sorry he is turning out to be one of those 'disappointing' chapters in your life...

Maybe you can be an inspiration to him. Be his 'role model'...? Show him gently exactly what he has to do to get himself as blessed as you've become this far in your own life!

Be a shiny mentor to him rather than his victim? He be able to 'transform' his life into the wealth and success and happiness you enjoy!

I mean, if it makes YOU disgusted and miserable to even "hear" and listen to all his stories, can you imagine the grunge of actually having to walk in his shoes and live like that???

But then, he's just an 'acquaintance' right?

You have the opportunity in front of you... Choose wisely. You can make a difference in someone's life. Could be his?

Take care!

Most people do this to one extent or another. Everytime I am around family or friends the conversation always turns to funny/good things that happened in the past.

@Padre; hahaha! Well, I'm not aaaalways like that. It's only sometimes, like say late at night when you start going kooky. Then relics of the past make me sad. I'm really Scorpio with not as much fire to balance me out, so emotional memory and sentiment is connected to everything. Every so often though I bulldoze and get rid of old things and just start fresh - very cathartic. Aquarius Moon?

@Ami Anne; mmmm, not really. I grew up with my sister and we often fought for the spotlight (once she was old enough to know what it is and to want it).

My father is very connected to the past. I suspect heavy Cancer but I know he has a Scorpio Sun.

He's one of those people that won't listen to new music. He sticks with the same bands, the same routine, the same outlook.

He does read new books but he rereads books all the time. I have a select few that I will reread.

It's odd that Scorpio's wouldn't get rid of what's outdated though, since Pluto is our resident transformer.

Goodness no, not disappointed or what have you, he's an old friend who just is happy with the way things were and content to leave them that way.

Suspect if went to hang out at a "90's throwback night" he would still have the clothes..
