I'm wondering...I personally have a sort of, Hit-and-Miss empathy. Deep down, I'm capable of being (and tend to be) rather callous and cold, but also some things just really get me emotional too.

Ex. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eRfZvzOvs7Q
The scene this was used in for Kill Bill, a little girl's parents were murdered with her hiding under the bed, and just listening to this song gets me man! Especially at about 1:55 onward 'cause that's when her mother was done in.

So idk, what's your empathy like?

I'm pretty much the same.
But I think deeeep down I'm really sensitive to any kind of suffering, and if I let my defenses down so to speak, I'll probably cry all the time!
So I don't let it get to me, which is why I can seem quite cold and not empathetic.
Deep down I really am, though.

Usually empathetic to most people who are suffering,

I've gotten close to a couple of homeless teens in the past and use to help them out but they disappeared....

I'm assuming the worst.... because of reasons...
I filed a report but no one seemed to care that much... typical.
It's not like I had proof of their existence.
I still think about them often..

Depends. And I made the mistake of seeing Kill Bill when I was looking for something to get me in a better mood. I was young and as I don't watch splatter fests I didn't know who Tarantino was and I thought the movie was supposed to be some over the top silly divorce movie with that bright yellow making me think it wasn't that dark. When I saw the beginning I almost went out to get my money back (and would today) but decided to give it a few minutes (my mistake, even if it had some intriguing character moments), and found it so upsetting that I've never watched it again or the sequels. However, in a different mood I think I might've enjoyed it...

And I'm not certain how much is empathy, and how much is imagination, that is a lot of people who appear not to have empathy just instead lack imagination. I don't feel like explaining the difference so if I'm not understood on that then oh well, maybe I'll feel like explaining it later.

I'm too empathetic.. to an extent that it is physically damaging so I have to try (with great difficulty) to avoid negative people.
I genuinely can't stand it .. even online.. when I start to get vibes about someone else's pain and anger and woes in life.. it just drives me insane.
Some are more affected than others... For instance a poster here opened up about being hurt by something - and I had known previously that she was hurt in this way (before she even talked about it) - and the extent to which she is hurt and angry at everything (at all times) - makes it difficult for me to even read her posts.. I feel like throwing up.

So yeah - my empathy levels are beyond horrible :\

Odette, I could have written that myself.

It would be a good idea for you to look into grounding techniques and energetic defense or protection exercises. When you are someone who is extra sensitive and wide open it's almost life or death. You need to learn how to deal with it and harness and recognize the energy (especially when it is not your own) so it does not wear you down.

To be at the level Odette describes sounds like Kaali is conjunct a personal planet or angle.

That kind of thing doesnt matter to me. That's not what is important - an asteroid in the sky (one of millions, billions?). No offense Ami. I just don't buy into it all.

Thank you T I know what you mean because it can definitely feel draining. What I usually do is distance myself from that person or situation and I listen to music I like or watch something on youtube to take my mind off it.

Scorpy lolll That was so sweet!!

Hí Ami,
My Kaali is at 13 Gemini, conjunct Chiron at 10 Gemini - and sextile my Sun, 12 Aries.
But it might be all the Neptune aspects I have & Pisces placements.

same, not to the point of throwing up but i can easily cry reading people's posts, seeing people in pain on tv, even if they're acting. i cry if somebody in front of me is crying, it just hurts my soul to see suffering. i've had to learn to distance myself to the point of being able to cope, but i'm definitely still an empath.

I am very empathetic, especially to suffering of any kind. Growing up, if I ever saw anyone getting picked on or bullied, I would get involved. Usually the bully was so dumbfounded that I would actually stand up to them that they were speechless. It brought out an anger in me, that I just had to put this person in their place, as if I were being personally attacked.

I can relate to what Odette said, and I totally agree with T about having to ground yourself. I learned first hand how other people's energies can physically make you sick. Last summer I went on a family vacation with my now ex in-laws. They are codependent, alcoholics, married over 40 years with domestic violence going both ways. They walk into the room, and it's like getting sucked into a black hole of negativity. I tried to tune them out, and everyone was wondering why I kept hanging out in the bathroom and going for walks by myself. By the end of the vacation, I was covered from head to toe in a rash, and I ended up having a flare up of an existing autoimmune disease. Not only was I covered in skin lesions from my face to my feet, I also had severe inflammation of the blood vessels which caused burst blood vessels all over my lower body. This is after being in remission for almost 5 years. When I went to my doctor, he said "I was going to ask you if you had been under extreme stress, but since you just went on vacation, I guess that's a dumb question."

It was at that moment, that I realized that my abilities to take on these energies didn't just affect me emotionally, but the emotional stress can manifest physically as well. Unfortunately my ex is a Cancer, and no matter how insanely f*ed up his family is...they are family, and he refused to establish any form of healthy boundaries with them. Ugh, just reliving the situation has my blood pressure rising.

I have learned to put up a "force field" around myself to block out the negative energy and only take in the positive energy. It's pretty effective, but some people are just toxic and should be avoided at all costs.

WOW Odette
It is the Chiron. Kaali is your energy body. Some people have it conjunct the ASC and they become psychic sponges psychic vampires.

Your energy body is conjunct Chiron but the degree of orb is wide so you are fortunate it was not exact. Then, it would be very, very hard.

Your energy body is very linked up with your own Chiron wound.

This must make you empathetic, in that way i.e you feel pain in your body and you do.

It is your energy body.

In which house is your Chiron?

Karka has this too, I think. Hers is more exact though

Sagittarius on 2nd House Cusp. I also pick up on people's health issues but I can feel money troubles or concerns coming in waves from a person-it feels almost palpable at times. Also people open right up to me and start telling me stuff that is so personal I get embarrassed or disconcerted especially from strangers. My friends are always saying well you have that kind of face people just want to open up and tell you stuff.

Usually I find myself having to be alone or shut myself off from talking to others because I am TOO empathetic. There would be times before where a co worker would tell me something very sad about what is going on with them in their life, after hearing about it I wouldnt sleep for days. Almost as though I absorbed all the feelings of my coworker. Cant even watch the movie or musical Evita with out bursting into tears during certain scenes...by the way I did feel bad watching that scene from Kill Bill, where Orens parents get killed.

I'm empathic, not in a psychic way, just very sensitive to what's going on.

Here's an example.

Last year, I went to a party at my friend's house. I was the last one to arrive. Everyone seemed to be fine, but something was "off." Nobody said anything about it, but that just made it weirder.

I went home and cried. I told my husband that I had no idea what I was crying about, then called my best friend to complain (she's a Pisces, she understands) that I just soaked up something bad and couldn't shake it or figure out what it was.

Later, I learned that two of my very dear friends had an intense blow-out at the party, before I got there. One of them, a Cap sun, was heartbroken over this for months. The other, a Cap moon, never did talk to me about it.

But anyway, their Cap placements explain why they said nothing at the party, and maybe my reaction was so intense because my sun also aspects their conjunction.

Reading all your replies...this is such an interesting thread.

Oh and the moon is in Pisces right now, good time to think on these things.

Edit:

@freebrainstorms & bluejay, do you attribute your empathy to anything in your chart?

@libraschoice: You've always seemed highly sensitive to me.
