I have few childhood memories, they're short and blurry and most of them don't include my immediate family. Can anyone relate?------------------ I'm sooo happy! I mean, cappy. IP: Logged |

Ya. I have childhood memories. They aren't blurry. They are distinct. If I could, I would take a flame thrower to those memories and then napalm my childhood.IP: Logged |

My aunt has blocked out a lot of her childhood memories. For good reason. My mom, on the other hand, remembers everything. IP: Logged |

I have mixed feelings about this. I found similar confessions but what is the reason? Sometimes I wonder if I subconsciously blocked my memories. My family has always been rather dysfunctional and maybe my brain did me a favor?I have like no childhood memories of my father's siblings and mother (even though she lived in the same building for a few years and they would often come here during that time and then she lived near us, she was kinda psycho though and they weren't much better). ------------------ I'm sooo happy! People react to traumas in different ways, blocking out memories is just one possibility (and having such traumas burned into your brain so you can't stop thinking about them are another). But there are other reasons, some of them biological, diet, too much vegging in front of a TV, etc. I've noticed that many in a family will share traits, for example I vividly recall childhood, and so do my parents and grandparents. I've noticed others who don't recall childhood so well also come from families where such memories fade. Interesting enough if someone has clear memories starting when they were 5 years old but almost nothing before that will have many relatives who are the same way which suggests something genetic about how the brain develops (not necessarily harder to learn, mind you, after all your brain won't be more brilliant than when you're an infant & toddler yet virtually no one can recall back to those days).
