Did you ever feel like that? How do you cope with it?

I deal with it by prepping for emergencies, and that includes having a plan (and I've done drills in the past). I've taken years of self-defense training and gotten good with guns. I keep a fire extinguisher (not allowed to get too old) and first aid kit at home and on the go (and on the go I have a cheap cell phone which is strictly to be used for emergencies). There are people I trust.

Still, the world is dangerous, and both man made (government and criminal, malicious and accidental) and natural disasters could cause all sorts of harm I can do nothing about. As I was saying in the last post, gallows humor, it helps. And focusing on what I have rather than what might happen. Of course I try to remain prepared and observant, there is no absurd "either/or" choice of being a happy go lucky fool or cringing neurotic, at least not for me.

I actually worry more for others than myself.

Hmmmmmm....

Well I usually don't worry about myself. I'm not fearless but maybe more than many...?

I do worry for those I love. I'll just tell them, tell them to remain aware which I think is SO important. No amount of preparedness will be enough if you don't stay aware of when you need it.

I think what pixie said is never a bad idea. It depends where you live also.

Yeah I feel the same. There was a time when that feeling got so bad I actually didn't want to venture out or do anything.

I don't remember how I got over it. Now I still occasionally feel that the world ins't a safe place. I find it more damaging to my emotional/mental well-being than physical.

I guess I try my best by taking chances n preparing for the worst - it gives me peace of mind to know that I have "the solutions" you know lol not that they always work... Sometimes laughing/shrugging it off can be good. It comes naturally after the 1st few times.

I truly believe that it's a state of mind, of course there are dangers, but I've always felt safe and been safe, I expect to stay safe, so have been. I believe that what you fear will come to pass, as it is drawn to you, whether it be health, wealth or relationships, if you fear loss you will have it.

I have never felt like that.

When I die, I die. Until then I'm cool.

What is there to be afraid of?

It's such a bothersome emotion. I think you should focus on something else. Ignore it till it goes away. Whatever you do, do not let your fear dictate the least thing. That's what I did when I was five and afraid of the dark. I pretended like it was not so until it was not so.

Sometimes and especially when I think of having children it scares me a lot. The world's only gonna get more crueler and more evil and I don't want them to go through all of that. I guess I've learned to just let things that I have no control over go. There's no sense in getting yourself all worked up. I'm not a crazy religious person but I do believe in God and our savior Jesus Christ and I know they will protect me, that's what I hold onto.

I'll have to save that...may end up posting it on LL later when I find it again among my saved links.

I know someone who will probably cry from laughing so hard when she sees this, can't wait to show it to her.

It was the opposite for me plenty of times, sometimes when I was naive and happy go lucky I got into the most trouble with bad people who took advantage of that, one that came real close to killing me. OTOH, I had some of the epic best luck when I was downright paranoid, and not just because I was alert and aware to danger (and thus bypass it to get to the diamonds in the muck) but just pure good luck.

And as I got older and more aware of the dangers of the world I've encountered them less, and I remember how much I feared my home being burglarized while I was away and it never happened (I suspect that may be because unlike others I knew I didn't tell the police or the security company I used fearing they'd tell criminals for a cut and unlike many of those who did report they'd be gone I didn't get burglarized). Not too long ago I had an unpleasant encounter in broad daylight when I expected it the least, however.

What I do is stop thinking about it and move onto thinking about something else, Aries style even though I'm not technically an Aries. I just like Aries ways of handling things.
And if all else fails and someone breaks into my home or something like that I have my own top secret defense plan and in my state I can defend myself in my own home without fear of being charged for a crime.
So I don't really worry. I have faith in my death stare to scare off any intruder. I will just bring out the psychological Death Star and they will scamper away with tail between legs and they better hope that's all.
Or, are you talking about what's happening around the world right now?

Meditation has taken a lot of these fears away.

The world can be a dangerous place,
but fear is only the ego
insisting about its own importance.

When I wrote this thread, I was thinking about the sexual assaults in my past as well as my twisted history with my father. They gave me a feeling that I am not safe in my surroundings, that I can expect to be attacked or assaulted at any time - after all, 50% of those incidents were done by people I knew and trusted, the rest by strangers. I think part of why it's been hard for me to take the weight off was that I thought I was safe because I wasn't a target anymore.

Except.. it's not true.

3 weeks ago, while I was in Turkey, my friend and I were followed home by a guy who asked us something on the street (we didn't understand because it was in Turkish), then seemed to have moved past us, only to return and follow us. When we were searching for the keys to enter the building, he attacked me. Not both of us, me. -_- I didn't hear him behind even though I am almost always very aware of my surroundings and possible dangerous people because I am paranoid due to my past. I wasn't hurt physically even though he tried - and succeeded, because my guard was down - to touch me. Psychologically I was a mess for a couple of days, I beat myself up because I didn't hear him, because we were talking too loud, laughing too loud, maybe my dress was not long enough etc. But soon I've changed my perspective because I SHOULD be entitled to all that AND be safe - it is not something I did, it's something a sick person did. I should not be feeling scared to be myself and put myself out there in the world. I used to look at sexy looking girls and wonder how the hell they don't get assaulted all the time, since it seemed logical to me. But nope, women dress sexy all the time and are safe to go do their thing. I know my Mars-Pluto is still emanating this energy "abuse me, abuse me, I'm right here!" but to hell with it. Yes, the world is not a safe place for people like me because of that but you know something? I am not going to continue to see myself as a victim. And since it doesn't matter what weight I'm at or shape I'm in to draw this energy to me, then I'd rather look great while the f*cktards follow me around. At least they'll bury me looking pretty.

Hey DM I'm sorry that happened I know what Mars-Pluto is like and have gone through a similar phase of disliking people in general for a while including myself lol but like what you're saying I've realized I'm here whether I want to be or not so I might as well try to love myself and not think too much about why people do the weird or cruel things they do in the world because it won't change anything...

Also you're gorgeous and should definitely not hesitate to put yourself out there and show it off (while still being safe and aware of your surroundings of course)
