Well, it took me a while to get here. A truly LONG while. I didn't even realized it until yesterday when I was writing about something and the words just popped out of me. I don't think I am perfect, or that my body is perfect, but I am grateful to have a strong, healthy, cancer-free and fertile body (or at least should be, from the latest tests - I'll tell you for sure in the next 2-3 years or so), even though I have abused it for years and years! I gave it little sleep, lots of stress, some alcohol (back in college), cigarettes (oh boy), too much caffeine, tons of weight loss diets and poor nutrition, neglected it and its needs (including sexual ones) for years, yet it held on with me and kept me going despite all that.

My body deserves a friggin medal!

I like it as it is, right now. It doesn't mean I will get complacent about it. But I want to take a minute and send this out there into the ether.

Please feel free to show your body appreciation in this thread! It is often regarded as vanity - it shouldn't be. The body is as important as the mind and the soul.

I love my body too.

I was just thinking how nice a natural body smell is this morning.

I like it so much, that I keep it all to myself.

Yeah.

I guess I like the smell of a man as well.

I mean, men smell like Wheat Chex.

Mmm, clean men smell wonderful! I wish they'd stop using stupid cologne and after shave. Soap is best!

Let the body speak its own language!

I love my body lately too. My diet for the past 5 years or so has been super random. I'm much better now though! Lots of health food, veggies, and I work out about 4-5 days a week. So my body has become quite strong. Yesterday I did deadlifts for the first time...

Hanging out with the guys in the gym hehe

Good on you (and everyone else) for loving your bodies

I have a complicated relationship with mine. Start with my breasts. I like my breasts really, but sometimes I feel that they are too obscene (long story). Then there're the surgical scars - sometimes I'm alright with them. But there are days I wish that I didn't have them. It was more of a struggle in my teenage years, now not so much... So I guess as I get older it will become less and less a concern.

Other than that, I'm not very happy that my kidneys aren't doing that well. It does make me feel "less than" sometimes. But I guess I'm grateful coz it could have been worse. At least now I'm still reasonably healthy.

hmmmm - it depends on the day. Lately I feel as though my body has betrayed me horribly.

But purely on a physical appearance level, although I'm not perfect, I am happier than I used to be when it was close to perfect. Maybe it's wisdom with age or maybe it's just not caring about what other people think anymore

What is wrong with your kidneys, Muddy?

I've had a complicated relationship with my body as well. I felt it betrayed me, like MoonWitch said. I thought it was responsible for the unwanted sexual attention I received and I was ashamed of it and I hated it. I also resented it for making my father believe that I was enjoying the abuse, when I wasn't, and that was the reason why he kept doing it.

Later on, I started seeing it as deformed and ugly. I gained weight in an attempt to punish it and keep the men away. I was pretty successful at it.

I felt disconnected from it. I felt it didn't, and should not, belong to me. I felt it was unacceptable. I rejected it. I nourished my mind and my soul but repressed the body.

I've grown into a place of integration and acceptance. I think the cancer scare from 2 weeks ago had a huge role in it too. I realized I have gone too far.

We still have a long way to go until total resolution, me and my bones. But since we're glued together, might as well make the best of it.

One day at a time..

My body has always been OK. I struggle more with my emotions, feeling I couldn't trust them. I think I am making good headway with it, though.

Recently, I seem to be more self accepting, realizing that everyone really shares the same kinds of emotions and I am not different.

I remember you saying you have stomach aches, Ami. Usually, when there is an unbalance, everything suffers. The body is the loudest, I suppose.

DM,

Despite everything I`ve never felt more home in my body than I do too.
A new found acceptance and respect I suppose, and finding a shared language (mind, body, heart).

YES! I feel the same way! I don't know how long it will last, but I shouldn't be picky. Just the fact that I've arrived here is huge progress for me.

And btw, you have a great body!

I see my body as a vehicle for self-expression so I love it as it is.
But I don't usually think about it as:
"I'm young, healthy and fertile etc" - because I feel like those things are temporary and passing.. When I'll be say 50 I'll no longer be fertile and likely not as healthy as I am now - but I'm pretty sure I'll still love my body.

If you don't love yourself you can't survive.

I've been alive for 20 years and counting. So I guess that statement is wrong.

I would say... "If you don't love yourself, you can't live a happy life." But you can definitely survive.
