I've got too many contenders, there's no way I could choose. But I can share about an experience that started off as creepy. Plagued by terrible nightmares I created a program for myself to overcome them (and it helped, but that's another story). I'd just used some self-hypnosis to hopefully help myself handle nightmares better and then ended it listening to Demon Slayer while still in an altered state of consciousness (btw, I'd later sing this song to a little girl troubled by nightmares and she said it helped). But right after I put on the radio while I got ready for bed and the first song to come on (that they hadn't played in years) was Witches by Switchblade Symphony! ...Your dreams are filled With blood and gore Now they're right outside your door They're gonna get you A spider's love bite May find you tonight Monsters, they eat Your kind of meat And they're moving as far as they can And as fast as they can Now it's getting hot, hot Now it's getting hot, hot Run for water Now it's getting too hot Nee, nee, nee, nee, nee, nee, ha ha ha It felt as if my nightmares were letting me know they weren't going to give up without a fight. I shuddered as I wondered what independent existence my nightmares might have (contributed to a poem I'd later make which I've shared on LL before but the LL search engine can't find it), and if they could make a song come on the radio then what else could they do? But instead of staying awake all night as I thought of doing I instead quoted Emily Dickinson (a poem that helped me through a traumatic event before) in preparation for defiantly going to sleep: An awful tempest mashed the air, The clouds were gaunt and few; A black, as of a spectre's cloak, Hid heaven and earth from view. The creatures chuckled on the roofs And whistled in the air, And shook their fists and gnashed their teeth, And swung their frenzied hair. The morning lit, the birds arose; The monster's faded eyes Turned slowly to his native coast, And peace was Paradise! And as soon as I fell asleep I was in a weird, disturbing dream where I was partially in my room, partially somewhere else, and hearing frightening voices talking to me but I couldn't make sense out of what was being said (though I felt like it SHOULD make sense). And then I realized I was asleep but got scared that a burglar had broken in and was slowly coming to my sleeping form. Yet as I realized it was a dream (I asked myself "Am I dreaming?") I used an act of will--though this did take some effort--to pull up the sun until the sun was shining in everywhere. Encouraged, I continued to make changes, and fairly soon I was skating in the bike lane by the beach. I think the dream went into something else from that point, but it was no longer a nightmare. Encouraged, I continued to work to overcome it and I eventually did. Obviously, that wasn't my worst nightmare, but that song Witches coming on when I basically declared war on my nightmares felt as if my nightmares had declared war back and almost freaked me out. Luckily, I persevered, and I won my war on my nightmares.

One weird aspect is how often Giles is my father. Once I even dreamed I was back in middle school when Mom attacked the school with terrorists. After that was over with parents were called. I saw Dad and talked about how crazy Mom was but then I said goodbye when I saw Giles and ran up to hug him going home, because Giles was my dad. It didn't seem strange at all.But that's not too much of a nightmare, Giles would be an awesome dad for someone like me. He did appear in enough nightmares, too. (One of my favorite is where I got him to come to Texas where he observed the flora and things like fire ants saying it was "signs of an apocalypse" and I told him, "It's always been like that." ) IP: Logged |

Cappy, you might like this one dream I had that you would agree was a nightmare:I was visiting family in Texas again when they then presented me with a guy I'd never met while at a public restaurant saying we were to be married so I could finally stop shirking my duties and crap out babies for the family. As they watched me closely I pretended to be excited and everyone celebrated. Then saying how excited I was I excused myself, sneaked away, and caught the first train back to California while they prepared the wedding. Though it became a more literal nightmare as the train I was on got stopped by a zombie horde! Zombies happen in quite a few nightmares of mine. IP: Logged |

I have a lot of nightmares. I think most of my 'regular' dreams would be considered nightmares to a lot of people. I'd have to think about what the worst ones are but the first one that pops into mind was the one where I was eating someone's face. What made it so bad was that it seemed real, I could actually taste the face chunks AND I liked it.IP: Logged |

I wouldn't say I have very bad nightmares. For the most part I really enjoy my dreams. They're allot of fun, and I remember all of them. I did dream that I was covered in spiders the other week though. Quite unpleasant. Sometimes I'm on roller coasters that never ends, or running away from something. I'm often kidnapped, chased or held hostage in my dreams, but it gives me some degree of awareness because I quickly find such dreams extremely boring. That always shifts the dream for me as I effortlessly release myself from the constraints of the dream (in my sleep).IP: Logged |

Oh actually, scratch that. I know what the worst dream was. I had worked up the nerve to tell my crush that I loved him, and so went out looking for him but could not find him anywhere. It was a very long dream, searching a very big area and getting stung by bees, loosing my shoes, becoming blind and being threatened by the mafia. Etc. After half a day I gave up and went to take the subway home. As I'm about to enter the train, someone taps my shoulder and it's him. I turn to face him and just as he is telling me he loves me I spot an explosion behind him inside the train station. He sees my horrified look and thinks I have rejected him. The dream ends as we are engulfed in flames and my skin is melting in the explosion. Just great. The end. IP: Logged |

hmm I can't think of what would be the worst. I've had a few weird dreams - but not serious nightmares per se. In one dream I was being chased by a headless chicken in a car park.. That was pretty creepy. I became a vegetarian after that haha IP: Logged |

None taken. I probably would have found it funny too, if it wasn't so frustrating dreaming it I mean, after ALL THAT EFFORT! I don't know about you guys, but my dreams always end when they really get good. IP: Logged |

Lmao. --- I very seldom have nightmares. Nothing scary to share. The creepiest dreams I've had were: seeing a kid I know on the verge of dying an atrocious death by being drowned in a basin with a sort of green glue (but I was able to save him); seeing myself disfigured with holes in my skin or extreme wrinkles; seeing a pit of hell in the subway with people burning in it; and having to stab/kill people/zombies. Last night I dreamed that a policeman dressed in a pink robe (it actually looked hilarious, in a creepy sort of way) was running after me and wanted to do me harm but I don't remember feeling too scared, I just ran away and hid in a sort of restaurant behind the checkout and told people not to tell the dude I was there. He didn't find me. Yay. IP: Logged |

One kind of dream I really dislike are ones that I believe are really happening and am totally relieved once I am awake. I tend to forget my dreams a day after I have them unless they are really special like the one I had a couple of nights ago about this cool underground house I didn't know existed. I often dream of houses. The worse ones for me are the ones that are horrible and I think they are real, like being embarrassed to the point of mortification, or that I am in college and forget to go to class and end up with an F at the end of the semester. When I wake up, I am quite relieved they were only dreams. It's not the subject matter that is the worst part, it's the fear and anxiety that I have made a mistake that will haunt me forever. While sharing music videos, this one has a feel of some of my nightmares, the surreal, unable to escape, repeating patterns that are haunting and seem filled with possible meaning (but possibly signifying nothing): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HCSIL-IupQU Ever since I was a small child I've had dreams of a horde of vampires (later they became zombies, at least most of the time). They were monstrous, not sexy in the least. This is pretty much what they're like: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9gGZPhk_9I And recalling childhood...this scene (I was 10 when I saw it on TV) gave me the most horrid nightmares that had me waking up screaming for weeks after I saw it (as the headless witch was after me and shrieking heads kept telling the witch where to find me): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VnIdI8iiK1M IP: Logged |
