I have a question for everyone.

Has anyone ever undergone a legal name change?
If so, what was your experience? Were you totally happy about it?

Please no sad or sappy comments convincing me about how oh please don't change your name because that's what is special about you! You were born with it and that's who you are!

How about I look at it this way-

1.) a name is just a name
2.) if I don't like it I should have the right to change it
3.) my name doesn't define me

My name is very difficult and foreign sounding. I have given it a lot of thought to change it to something else and I want to do this legally. Actually it even translates to something stupid in another language and this gives me lots of humiliation because I'm involved in the culture of that country a lot.
I cannot even get hired by any companies because my name is so foreign sounding, there's a lot of harsh judgment on me and it is really sad.

Can I have some support here?
I want to change my name!

Am I being ridiculous????

Please and thanks for advice

I don't think you're being ridiculous at all! If you wanna change it go for it! I'm in the process of legally changing my name on documents and things of that nature. I thought about not adding my middle name because I hate it so much 😫, but my hubby thought it'd be disrespectful to my mother so I kept it. 😠 The process doesn't seem that bad luckily I don't have any credit cards it sounds like an annoying process contacting them lol. If it makes you happy go for it. My little brother changed his name when he was 11 or my parents did anyway, he wanted it changed though. So if you want it do it!

I have known many folks who had their names legally changed.
Go for it!

Interestingly, a name change on an internet forum, where no matter the topic rarely are birth names used.

I've changed mine, legally, religiously and otherwise.

COOL THANKS GUYS

agree totally

I think it should be worth it

my very close friends and family can still call me by my name but it would be beneficial in the long run to get it changed so that I am taken seriously in a professional sense...

Funny you should mention this.
I changed my name so it's easier for people around here to pronounce it.
No regrets.
Was thinking of changing it again but was kinda dreading all the paperwork and legwork involved.
A name change is such a simple thing (except for the paperwork) but it pays off majorly.

Same could be said for a name change in the offline world as well.

You can do a common law name change. Simply write a statement that you are not doing it to defraud anyone, get your signature notarized, and use this to change official documents such as license and social security.

I think it's a difficult process, here.
I tried to get it changed a couple of years ago and it didn't work.

It's mainly for 'social' reasons. My real last name is really long and sounds foreign, and it's no good.

Not sure about numbers... If I choose the one I want to have, my full name would add to an 8. Err... Doesn't seem too good, but then I was born on an 8. If that means double karmic stuff, no thanks!

It's all theory at this point anyway.

I don't think I can exactly randomly choose my name, lol.

But I'll think about it.
