This is one of my heartfelt issues. It could go in the Health Forum or here but I think it is good info.

Ami,
I think it depends on the person. I know some people that take them and it works well for them. Myself? I take theanine everyday. That seems to do the trick for me.

I never heard of it. Can you tell me about it, AG?

It's naturally in green tea but you can get it in a vitamin pill form at any store that sells vitamins. It has a calming effect and helps with concentration. I got my friend to take them when he was in a deep depression and he said he felt less depressed after he was taking it for a week or so.

It is natural? Sounds good. I will look it up. I would love some natural calming agents. You know what I found from my garden? Basil really relaxes you. One day, I was out of greens to juice and had a lot of basil, so juiced that. I was sooo calm lol

I tried zoloft for a few days. I experienced almost all of the side effects including suicidal thoughts. I will never try zoloft again but I would be open to trying something else. It was a very low dosage too.

I have taken Lamotrigine for almost two years with excellent results!!! It's improved my life tremendously!

It's not an antidepressant however. It's a "mood stabilizer". In fact it's primary purpose is antiseizure.

I've taken many of the others including Zoloft with either no results or worse.
Bupropion worked ok though, yet, not quite good enough. I don't need antidepressants.

The thing with medication for psych issues is that there is no free lunch. What will things do long term? What do they, exactly, do short term?

If it kills me when I'm 70 instead of 75, I don't care.
Or whatever the case. I can enjoy life now and that's what matters to me.

The problem with anti-depressants is not taking them per se, but the dangers if someone comes off them quickly. It's been known to cause some people to fall even further into depression than they were before and even lead to suicide.

Personally I'm averse to prescriptive drugs (apart from short-term ones like antibiotics for specific injuries, eg, infections and anti-epileptic drugs - which I had to take as a youth). I wouldn't take anti-depressants even though I sometimes experience low mood, because I feel I have a slightly addictive personality anyway and would start to rely on them more.

An old boyfriend of mine (jovial as they come, you wouldn't think he'd need the assistance of antidepressants) said he took them for a while after a bad period in his life and they really helped get him back on track. He even recommended I take them when I was apparently depressed for a while. I didn't. Exercise was the best cure for me, as exercising releases endorphins that can help combat depression. Once you start exercising, you start to think about what food you're putting in your body too and it all has a knock-on beneficial effect.

I think doctors (probably due to time constraints) often prescribe quick-fix drugs which don't really help (even in some cases the WRONG type of drug). I'd want to know all the side effects of a particular drug before I'd consider taking it.

If you want to stick your chart up, we can look and see if we can see mood issues.

Exercise really is the best medicine, most times.

The problem with antidepressants imo (specifically SSRI's) is that

they're handed out like candy-- nevermind that they don't receive

proper trials from the fda, any longer.

The side effects (or main effects, for some) can be horrid.

But they're major money-makers for these drugs companies, so they

aren't going anywhere, anytime soon.

Read up on what's happening with statins-- same thing ($)-- it's unbelievable.

I needed two nervous breakdowns (I'm 26!!) before I finally realised I actually need to take the Zoloft. My serotonin levels are ridiculous.
It's been 5 years I take it and I don't regret. My life is better now. Some people are just too sensitive and can't go through the motions without some medication.
Off course I'm against taking too much stuff and becoming zombie like, plus most people don't have severe clinical depression and can be helped just with psycotherapy and relaxation methods

I have been taking anti-depressants, anti-anxiety(to counteract ADHD med side-effects) and ADHD medication since I was 3. I need my Adderall, without it I wouldn't be able to focus.I feel as I got older I have been able to handle my depression much better than when I was a kid. I try to stay off my Prozac and BuSpar since they don't do much other than take the edge of a little bit. I took Ativan for one night, it had some scary side effects. I wish that I didn't have to take anything.

If you do, put on the asteroid Maniac. I can find the number for you, if you want. Also, Kaali. I may think of some more later

Sun conj Uranus, very close. You are brilliant but your mind can be too electric. You can be "too brilliant" if we can say that, like electricity going through the wires and never stopping. If you have this, it is not your fault. The brilliance is one side of it but the intensity is the other. I have known people with this and they are brilliant, off the wall, but struggle with the other parts.

Mania conj Mars--wow. You may have strong ups and downs in your drives like be super, super obsessed with a goal and then maybe just give up and get lax about it.

Mania is ups and downs in mood, as I have seen by doing charts.

The exact nature of the Mars/Mania makes it very strong and hard for you to detach from.

Yes, I have a very, very busy mind it never stops. Yes! I do tend to come up with a goal or something and obsess and then I tend to get bored with it after a while, like I learned enough to understand it and now I'm moving on to something else lol. I've always had constant mood swings, my Cancer Moon probably doesn't help much either with that lol.

You are a true air void, so you may build up like a pressure cooker with wanting to communicate and may not be able to until you explode. If so, it is this air void

You have a LOT to deal with. Neptune conj the Sun can make the person feel amorphous. Your struggles were brought into life. They are NOT your fault. The chart can help you identify them, not blame yourself and to find your amazing wonderful points.
