I feel like society values all stress-inducing activities over peaceful activities.

It's all about living by the clock, adhering to government regulations in every respect from your toothpaste purchases (did the American Dental Association approve of that? ) to keeping track of all your registrations, tax, and insurance bills. Even holidays are stressful and seem to cry out for more complexity and drama each year. Television is spastic, smart phones are high maintenance. That's how I feel.

Whatever happened to a life of simplicity?

I keep thinking, just a few centuries ago, America was populated by Natives who spent their time idly poking at the beans and squash boiling over an open fire, carding and weaving wool blankets, stringing beads and singing ~ or tiptoeing through forests with bow and arrow.

Not a bad life. I would brave the winters in a wigwam to go back to that, I think. Buffalo pelt mattress...okay.

Really, I wasn't cut out for the rat race at all...I don't fit in where I am.

Not sure how anyone can find true and lasting happiness, in this state of affairs.

I'm somewhere in the middle. I like technology, I used to love Christmas - wrapping presents with the christmas lights on, twice with a real and a fake tree. But I also don't like that I can't afford to do what others are doing. I'm more interested in being out now, than stuck at home. There was a time when I was fine with spending all day in the garden.

Do you think progressions tie into changes like that? Astrological ones. I follow a woman on instagram, who seemed to be really happy living a simple life. Then she got into an MLM, and a lot of her posts are now about that, and how she and her husband (who she also signed up), are making money. They're reveling in it, which I wouldn't mind doing, in a way - but it's disappointing, because I thought they were happy before. They didn't seem that concerned with keeping up with the Jones'.

Yes I have seen that. People around want to become more spiritual or seek more happiness with the money they earn. I live a life of a loner and every time I go out I see that people hunt happiness, spirituality, love, attention with their money. It is very difficult for them to deal with me, because of my simplicity. None of them can grasp the difficulty in it.

^^ I completely relate, GeminiKarat.

---

@teasel~

I've just never gotten along too well with Christmas and sorta resent being discriminated against like I'm a grinch, because I'm pretty sure if others walked in my shoes they would feel the same way I do.

Technology is good I guess...well it's funny that I am on the computer a lot because the world has gotten so complicated I'm practically a hermit, trying to avoid everything. So I engage with people through this narrow, one-dimensional medium. The computer is my respite from a computer-overloaded world.

In real life, people throw me off sometimes, because I've gone so far off the mainstream path, I've forgotten how weird I am, and then to be reminded of it can actually be shocking. When I'm dealing with text, I can dodge those curve balls.

Hmm, I guess I just don't really fit into any group that I know of. Maybe it's my 4H Uranus.

I've found that I'm more drawn towards buying things, when I'm not feeling connected to other people. I used to be a lot happier when my family was fine. Things have improved, but not to that extent. I won't say anymore than that.

I don't mind others not being into Christmas, as long as they don't tell me how awful I am for participating, and enjoying it myself.

I think the emphasis on independence, as opposed to dependence on family and neighbors/friends has made for a kind of depression. There is nothing like close bonds.

Yeah...fills a void. The family I was born into is basically dead, absent, or insane so that is an ongoing heartache.

Mutual understanding both ways is the ideal.

Also I wanted to comment on progressions.

Pr sun heading into Pisces making me more sensitive; pr sun opposing pr moon at the moment.

Oh and tr Neptune square my Neptune, approaching my moon...spacing me out.

We'll see what comes of it.

America forces you to be a workaholic. This is true in other parts of the world too but I think it's worse here than it is anywhere else. Alot of countries have laws where people have to get atleast 3 or 4 weeks of vacation a year, plus public holidays! While alot of people in the U.S only get a week or 2 if that. And guess what?!?! Jeb Bush recently said that the solution for America's economic woes is for people to work more hours! Lmao... The Politicians here are so out of touch with the people that it isn't even funny. This country is going down the crapper and I'm seriously considering moving elsewhere and giving up my U.S Citizenship.

The mid-Atlantic region from Philadelphia to New York is insane. There's hardly a community spirit left in these larger suburbs because no one has time for that, plus the international communities are burgeoning here. Usually most of the people at our local playgrounds are from India.

All I ever think of is leaving (not because of the Indians I like Indians but you know, they're not speaking English.)

Americans are taught to be grateful for our freedoms, but we've lost so many, and it seems like few people even care.

PS Like mandatory health insurance p*sses me off.

Oh, absolutely! I wouldn't say society is against happiness per se, but rather designed for a bias entity where people buy into the concept that bigger and better is automatically the key to happiness. Thus, the poor are unhappy because they cannot afford the basics and will derive unhappiness due to the fact their voices aren't heard.

On the flip side, you have the wealthy that constantly indulge as a way to mask their unhappiness, as they accumulate more material goods and status, they find the threshold increases and need more to be fulfilled. One day they will be happy when they 'have it all,' and yet this day never comes.

Technology is a crapshoot because on one hand it has advanced the world in many ways, and yet it has created a consumption culture that can lead to isolation, excessive amount of stimulation, and degrades communication in some ways that we are often impaired without our devices. Now, I think technology is great, as long as moderation is in check and you don't neglect your other activities. It really is a double-edged sword depending on how you use technology, because really it is a vast source of knowledge which can be highly beneficial.

A lot of what our society struggles with is a lack of true spirituality. There is nothing wrong with liking material goods, so by no means I am currying judgement on anyone. But rather, I argue that when one is lacking spiritual fulfillment on the inside, we see the manifestation through compulsive and excessive behaviors, such as shopping, food, technology, and other sort of addictions because we lack a true grounding that only spirituality can provide.

Well, as I've already said, I'm talking to foreign women in several countries. But I'm feeling more of a connection with one that is in Russia. She is not interested in coming to the U.S at all so if I wanted to be with her I would have to go to her. I plan to go see her next summer so I will know more about what the future holds for us then. As far as employment goes I have been interested in teaching English as a foreign language for awhile and there is a need for that in Russia as only 5 to 10% of the population speaks English. Interestingly enough she is also an English teacher and tells me that they need native English speakers badly as their English education there is terrible. But nothing's set in stone yet! Like I said I will know more when I go to see her next year.

That is so cool, AG. I have several clients who teach languages in foreign countries. One is Korea. She was attracted to Korea. That seems so far away to me, but everyone is so different lol

I have been to Russia, AG.

I have always been attracted to Russia because it has an interesting history. I just feel like I vibe with the culture and people. I guess it's not surprising as Russia is said to be an Aquarius country.

I actually try not to buy things to fill a hole, because I know that it won't work for long, and I would prefer to save up the money somewhere, for an emergency. I've also told Dad not to buy me something, if he just thinks it will make me happy - it won't. For a while there, he was saying, "I'll buy it, if it will make you happy." Nope.

I do like the TV, and Netflix. I need the distraction, at times.

Russians have a reputation for being rude because they are more likely to be honest with you and not sugarcoat things. But you know what? I like that and respect that. They also have a reputation for being unfriendly because they aren't as smiley as American people but they are far more friendly once you talk to them and get to know them. From what I have seen of them they are much more real and down to earth than American people are. American people will smile at you and be polite even when they hate your guts. I guess some prefer that but I would much rather be around people who are real and don't have the PC filter.

Yea, Russians do not smile when you walk down the streets as Americans do. There is a different vibe there but I did not like the feeling in Russia, overall, but you may not agree, especially if you have a great love

They are not smiley in the same way that Americans are Ami lol. And by "Smiley" I mean more than just smiles. You know how people here in the U.S will greet you and act all friendly and seem so happy and excited to see you even if they aren't your friend or will never be your friend? The U.S has a reputation for this but the South is the worst. People always talk about how friendly southerners are but if you spend any time here you realize it's a very superficial friendliness. People will greet you in passing and will even wave at you as you pass them in the car or they will even make small talk with you in checkout lines but they rarely ever get to know you on any kind of deep level even if you see them a million times. It's always the same small talk and superficial Crap.

Common courtesy is important. Without that people are just boorish and hard to be around.

Anyway, AG, this wasn't meant to be a hate fest thread, so please take your usual bigotry elsewhere.
