- In case anyone reads this. Would like advice on: a.> rehabilitating/restoring cognitive functions after prolonged, intensive electro-convulsive therapy b.> helping your friend accept themselves as gay/bi/whatever..

I also think it would be good for him (when he is more stable) to get out of that place. So I planted the seeds of wanting to go to grad school. And he has come round to wanting to go. I'm coaching him through the entrance exams and application process. I am seriously worried about letting him go alone to a completely new country, *but* I think he has a much better shot at a good life, a normal life, here in the U.S. Just hoping he doesn't give up halfway through.IP: Logged |

@ElysiaI always knew you were a good person when I started reading your posts. Your right, having him stay where he is isn't the right atmosphere. Hopefully when you say he is leaving to another country its not Canada, there are problems here too. ==================================== Gemini Sun, Capricorn Rising Aries Moon Gemini Mercury Venus Taurus Mars Cancer IP: Logged |

Thanks, DualGem.. I'm just doing what any friend would do.Yeah, it's not Canada.. Although I daresay it would still be better than where he currently is. Sometimes I just feel helpless in protecting him from himself, you know? I think the solution is: 1. Help him accept himself. 2. Get him OUTTA there. 3. Find him a better doctor. Still stuck on one. Proceeding with #2. IP: Logged |

I love how you wrote that its very Algorithmic and procedural. My best solution to number 1 is similar to how they get battered and abuse women to start accepting themselves. Start by removing him from a bad environment and then start him doing things that make him feel special. ==================================== Gemini Sun, Capricorn Rising Aries Moon Gemini Mercury Venus Taurus Mars Cancer IP: Logged |

Haha! My occupation shows, eh? Yeah, you're right - it is a rehabilitation of sorts, with some parallels to the approach for abuse victims..at least, dealing with similar issues (like low self-esteem, societal pressure, familial pressure). I will keep at it, though. It's a gradual process.. Thanks for chiming in. IP: Logged |
