Between feeling/thinking that your SO is giving you "helpful hints" and feeling/thinking that your SO is actually not "that into you"? We're talking SO and not some random 1-2 week date.
I'll give some examples to help you along:

You have red hair but your SO has ONLY dated brown hairs and ONLY look at brown hairs. At first you put it aside as being "fun" but after a while (a few years) you kinda get bored of the charade..

You dress a certain way because that's YOU, but your SO seems to only appreciate a different kind of look and constantly reminds you of this fact despite saying you are perfectly OK.

You have certain characteristics and demeanors which your SO says are OK but at the same time-backhandedly-says it's not OK.

If my SO can't even accept the way I dress, the way I appear, then it's going to be even more difficult for her to accept me in all different moods, my personality, the way I behave in "good" times and "bad times". If she can't even accept me as I am, how can she love me? I'd not be under any illusion that she loves me as I am, she just wants to mould me according to her standards which she loves. However, that would not stop me from loving her, but it'd be quite clear to me that its one-sided.
