Hi everyone, I'm fifteen, (12/22/86, just if you're wondering) and I have a chronic illness called Fibromyalgia Syndrome. It's symptoms include severe sleep disorders and insomnia, as well as excruciating pain in the soft tissues of the body. (muscles, tendons, and ligaments) If anyone is familiar with this illness, please give me any advice you have, or if you know any tips for insomnia, PLEASE respond. Thanks so much. ------------------ "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers; for thereby some have entertained angels unaware." Hebrews 13:2 IP: Logged |

Hi Gooberz, You sound like a brave and lovely soul I am not familiar with the disease you mentioned, but I have found that taking vitimin B1 helps in sleep (I have suffered from insomnia for years). B1 is good for the nervous system. If we are lacking in vitimins that effect the nervous system, it is very difficult to sleep. Oh, but if you take B1, take it in the daytime. If you take it close to bedtime, you might feel wired. ChandraIP: Logged |

Hi Chandra, thank you so much for caring enough to reply to a "stranger." My mom knows a lot about medicine in general, so I'll ask my mom about B1 for sure. Hope you're sleeping well. ------------------ "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers; for thereby some have entertained angels unaware." Hebrews 13:2 IP: Logged |

Hi Gooberz~ First, let me say that you are not a stranger here, consider youself one of family I have heard good things about Dr. Pinkus' *CalMax* ... It's supposed to help alot with this disease. Have you tried it? Here is a link to his site www.drpinkus.com IP: Logged |

Thanks, Princess, I feel better (no pun intended) already knowing that some of you are familiar with the disease. Thanks so much for your suggestion. I went to the website but realized that I already have a similair product, which does help. Anyway, if you could tell me about any members of the site you know of that are familiar with CFS or fibromyalgia, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks again!------------------ "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers; for thereby some have entertained angels unaware." Hebrews 13:2 IP: Logged |

GOOBERZE...you little 'imp', of course you are 'family' Just was wondering if you are a 'sister' or a 'brother. Seriously, it is hard to tell. We have a thread on it somewhere that will make you laugh.About the FM, no I hadn't heard about it...but was wondering if you have researched a 'holistic' approach to treatment? I can't even imagine what you must suffer with it, but can see clearly that you truly are a brave soul....if you ever just need to talk or rant a little, we are here for you. ------------------

Ohhhhhh, I feel so welcomed now! And I'm a "sister" by the way. To reply to your question about trying a holistic approach, I absolutely do. I take some regular medications, but I also get accupuncture, massages, exercise, and eat a very healthy diet. (It's so strict I call it the "Nazi Diet.") On a more serious note, I really apreciate your ability to be so understanding.------------------ "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers; for thereby some have entertained angels unaware." Dear Gooberz ~ I didn't read all the replies, here but I do have a couple tips for Insomnia. When you go to bed; 1. Take a Deep Breath, and when you inhale, inhale through your nose, into your *stomach*, puffing out your stomach. When you exhale, make your stomach retract back in, and slowly exhale through your mouth. Do this 3 times slowly with large breaths. IT WORKS!!!!!!!!! 2. When you lie down to sleep, imagine your whole body has tiny holes in it, and the whole entire Universe is flowing through your entire body. Just be calm and still and feel how relaxing the whole universe is, to pass right through you. This has worked for me too!! Good luck! Losing sleep is the worst! IP: Logged |

GOOBERZE...today I was talking with a women I know who mentioned she also has FM. Since reading your post yesterday, I was able to talk with her about it. It gave me an understanding I think she needed to hear today...so I told her about you. Any new things you hear of, she would be interested in knowing as along with that, she is allergic to any type of pain medication.Princess...I'm going to tell her about the CALMAX. Funny, how until yesterday I hadn't heard about it and now met someone else with it. And she had the same birth date (not year) as my daughter, May 1st. I think the world really is quite small ------------------

YIVY~ I'd love to actually get a chance to *talk* to her. If she wants to talk, tell me, and I'll email you my email address. I'd love to help some one out, because I know where she's coming from, considering I'm allergic to most medications as well. ------------------ "Be not forgetful to entertain strangers; for thereby some have entertained angels unaware." Interesting the information about vitamine B1 Chandra...What is particularly rich in B1?B6 is good for dream recall I've read...If you never recall your dreams, you are likely to be B6 deficient. A good natural source of B vitamins is yeast, I prefer it inactive personally, as I don't want to have a proliferation of candida. IP: Logged |

Marigold~ I found this...B1 SOURCES The richest sources of vitamin B1 are brown rice, collard greens, dried beans, egg yolks, fish, green peas, oranges, organ meats especially liver, oysters, pork, peanuts, peas, rice bran, and wheat germ. Other dietary sources of the vitamin include brewer’s or nutritional yeast, Brussels sprouts, cereals, cooked dried beans, dulse, kelp, nuts, oatmeal, peanut butter, plums dried prunes, raisins, spirulina, watercress, and whole grain breads. Moderate sources of the vitamin comprise avocados, lean meat, milk, spinach, cauliflower, and dried fruit. Herbs that contain the vitamin include alfalfa, bladder wrack, burdock root, catnip, cayenne, chamomile, chickweed, eyebright, fennel seed, fenugreek, hops, nettle, oat straw, parsley, peppermint, raspberry leaf, red clover, rose hips, sage, yarrow, and yellow dock. Note: Vitamin B1 is lost when baking soda is added to preserve the green colors of cooked vegetables. Similar effects can be discerned on fruits, when sulfur dioxide is used for drying purposes. OVERDOSE Acute Overdose: None. Chronic Overdose: Anaphylactic shock. What to do: For symptoms of chronic overdose, contact your doctor. ~Princess IP: Logged |

I HAVE HEARD ALOT ABOUT FIBROMYALGIA, A REGULAR EXERCISE PROGRAM I HEAR IS ONE OF THE BEST THINGS YOU CAN DO. IT ALSO WOULD HELP IN THE SLEEP AREA, AS LONG AS ITS NOT TO CLOSE TO BED TIME. A WARM GLASS OF MILK IS A NATURAL SLEEP AID IF YOU THINK OF IT BABY'S TEND TO FALL ASLEEP WHEN GIVEN THEIR BOTTLE. ALSO FOR OLDER PEOLE MELATONIN 3 MGS AT NIGHT, IS A GOOD SLEEP AID. IT IS BETTER FOR PEOPLE OVER 40, BECAUSE THAT IS THE AGE PEOPLE START TO LOOSE THE NATURAL CHEMICAL MELATONIN IN THEIR BRAIN, WHICH CAUSES OLDER PEOPLE NOT TO SLEEP WELL. ALSO READING BEFORE BED HELPS ME SLEEP, AND ELIMINATING CAFFEINE, SOMETIMES WHAT YOU CONSUME IN THE AM CAN AFFECT YOU 12 HOURS LATER, HOPE THIS CAN HELP SOMEONE. IP: Logged |

I think I would prefer mental superiority over others rather than hidden trials and betrayals from others ~Princess ------------------ ~We can try many ways to get rid of the darkness, but none is as effective as simply increasing the light.~ UnkNown IP: Logged |

Just a thought...but have you tried SCULLCAP? It's an herb that calms the nerves and helps you sleep. It doesn't drug you out, but gently quiets that 'buzzing' in your head that usually keeps one awake. And it is also very good at quieting nerves. Women going through menopause find it extremely helpful with restless legs, the jitters and the crawling skin feeling. ------------------

Im not familiar with your illness, but drinking a cup of Chamomile tea, or even Celestial Seasonings Sleepytime Tea before bed is soothing and will relax you. Besides Chamomile, for something stronger you might want to take the herb Valerian Root, its a natural sedative and muscle relaxant. It helps me fall asleep if i take it an hour before bed. BUT - PLEASE check that with your doctor first to make sure its safe and it wont interfere with any medication you might be on. Its a safe herb that most people have no negative interactions with, but with your condition I would just make sure ahead of time to be safe. Run it by your doctor and if s/he says its safe to take it might help you out when you need it.IP: Logged |
