OK - I have a little plan for Valentine's Day I'm hoping someone can help me with. I'm looking to make Vegan Goobers as a present - my boyfriend is a pretty strict vegan and loves Gooberz, and we're always annoyed he cant eat them. Also, in Gooberz Linda mentioned she wished they were made with carob chocolate. So...I wanted to know if anyone had any advice on how to make Vegan Goobers! I thought it would be a nice idea and tie in Linda's idea. I'm thinking: get carob chocolate chips, melt them and pour them over peanuts, and put them in the freezer. Does anyone know if this would work? Or what would? If it comes out well, maybe i'll go into business, and I'll give some out to linda-goodman.com xo thanks IP: Logged |

House Brownie~ !!! WELCOME !!! What a thoughtful idea for a gift for your boyfriend! If Goobers (never ate one) are just chocolate covered peanuts, and unless you just really want to make them yourself, I know you can purchase carob covered peanuts at the grocery store ... they are sold in bulk (by the lb.) with other snacky stuff like carob covered pretzels, trail mix, etc. - usually in or near the produce department. If you want to make them yourself, I'll bet the same technique for melting chocolate (for coating/covering other stuff) would work or could be easily modified - but I don't think freezing is necessary, once the carob or chocolate cools to room temp, it sets-up again - the fridge could make them cloudy looking I think. Good luck, and I hope you will let us know how they turn out ! ~Princess ------------------ ~We can try many ways to get rid of the darkness, but none is as effective as simply increasing the light.~ UnkNown IP: Logged |

Which ones are really amazing? Pangea or VegSource? Did you see the Vegan Cheesecake? The only board I really go to at VegSource anymore is the Veganism board. The reason is the people at that board are the nicest. Also, Joanne Stepaniak has answered all questions I have ever posted to her there ~ you don't get ignored by moderators like at other places on the Internet. I have one of her cookbooks. Also I've made a couple friends there over the years ~ really nice people. IP: Logged |

I only went into VegSource for a few seconds, but I really liked what I saw, so I bookmarked it and will be sure to visit it again for longer periods of time. IP: Logged |

Yeah, those cheesecakes look expensive but I am thinking of ordering one for my birthday. Last year I made a Coconut Vegan Cake for my birthday and it turned out great. This year I know I'm getting an Apple Pie at work for my birthday~ hee hee hee IP: Logged |

OK - I experimented and made the carob goobers, and it turned *incredible*. I was nervous making it that it would be a disaster, but they are great. In case anyone is interested in trying it yourself....heres the recipe - they're yummy and much better than the store bought Goobers.6 oz. carob choclate chips 1 tbs. water 1/4 cup corn syrup 2 cups of peanuts, salted or unsalted Combine water, corn syrup and carob chips over a low flame, and stir until melted. Stir in peanuts, until coated. Drop with teaspoon onto wax-paper lined cookie sheets, and put in the refrigirator until firm. When I made them, I doubled the recipe, but for some reason, it only took 3 cups of peanuts. Also, the best way to serve them is to cut into squares. You can eat them and serve like real Goobers, but they stick together from the corn syrup so come out better in squares or gooey clumps.
