I am just curious how many people here eat Organic? I try to buy Organic food as much as possible. I can really taste the difference in Organic Produce like Fruits and Vegetables. I've been buying my Veggies at Whole Foods lately; they are more expensive, but aren't you worth a pound of Broccoli for $2-$3 compared to polluting your body with junk food like cookies or ice cream that costs $2-$3? It's funny people always complain about how Organic foods are more expensive; but in the long run, aren't You Worth It???? If you think about the health factors of eating pesticides, chemicals and hormones, etc. Yuk! You can also buy Organic Produce/Foods at your local Farmer's Market. Most grocery store chains offer organic produce but the choice is limited; so if you have a Whole Foods, Wild Oats, Trader Joe's where they specialize in Organics, it's better to go there. This is from Whole Food's Website : 10 Reasons to Buy Organics *Support the environment. Organic production systems support natural ecosystems by using long-term farming solutions. This restores, maintains, and enhances ecological harmony, and positively effects the health of the environment. *Support our future needs. Organic farming embraces the principle that agriculture must meet the needs of the present without compromising the needs of future generations. *Build a biologically diverse agriculture. Organic agriculture respects diversity within the environment, including protection of plant and wildlife habitats. *Help protect our water resources. Environmentally friendly farming solutions contribute to the overall quality of our lakes, rivers, estuaries, ground and drinking waters. *Increase productivity of the land. Organic agriculture builds productive nutrient-rich soil that resists topsoil erosion. *Help protect our health. Organic production systems limit inputs of toxic and persistent chemicals into the environment. Choosing organic foods positively impacts our own health, the health of our children, the health of farm workers, and the health of future generations. *Help small farms. Although more large-scale farms are making the conversion to organic practices, most organic farms are small, independently- owned and operated family farms. *Support a true economy. Buying organic is a direct investment in the long-term future of our planet. The choices we make now can free us from costly pesticide-related environmental clean-ups in the future. *Save energy. Organic farming is less reliant on non-renewable energy sources, substituting renewable sources or labor to the extent that is economically feasible. *Organic food tastes great! Chefs across the country are committed to using organic ingredients because plants from healthy soils and organically-fed livestock provide us with more flavorful food. Organic foods allow true flavors to shine through! Here are some more links/info. at Whole Foods Website all about Organics: Organic Agriculture If you are interested in reading more about how your Food Choices affect the Earth, you can go to John Robbin's Website about his newest book, "The Food Revolution". This book will shock you and discust you about the Truths which are hidden from the general public. But isn't it better to know the truth about your Earth and it's Future? Nephy~ I'm with you toots It urks me too when people say they can't *afford* organic foods when they just left McDonald's ... Then, if you compare nutritional values per dollar between organic and *product* - organic wins by miles!~Princess ------------------ "War is not healthy for children and other living things." ~unknown IP: Logged |

it's really helped that President's Choice has out their own sub-brand of organic foods. I mean, it makes it slightly easier to afford, and competitors will have to rush a bit to get into the groove. My mom buys the food; I have her convinced that anything less that 100% whole wheat bread and rice won't do. I'm working on organics. *grin*IP: Logged |

I can't say that I only eat organic food, but I do like it much better! When I garden, in my garden, I never use pesticides. I like the idea of organic food. Who needs chemicals! We're surrounded by enough of them every day, why would we need to eat them too? IP: Logged |

Princess, that sounds so yummy! There is a restaurant here that serves a Salad made of ; Red Leaf Lettuce Fiji Apples Roasted Sugared Walnuts Feta Goat Cheese (I order mine sans the cheese) It is SO GOOD! I forget what the dressing is, but it is simply delectably scrumptious! IP: Logged |

Yummy sounding salads! Have to give those a try! Another thing in the same vein that is tasty is Belguin Endive with a blob of Blue Cheese, a blob of mango Chutney and spiced walnuts. YUM and makes a good party snack too! Vegans can omit the blue cheese, or use soy cheese instead, though the texture would be 'off'. Maybe plain soy yoghurt would be better, perhapes with some spcies stirred in? As for organics - well over 75% of what I buy is organic and my grocery bill is the same or lower than the non-organic families I know. The reason? I cook almost everything from scratch, and that makes my meals way way cheaper than a meal made from processed foods. Also there's only one person in my house who eats meat, and that's just usually some fish maybe 1 -2 times a week. So what we save in the meat department we spend on produce and organic staples like flour, rice, pasta etc. With a kid at home it's hard to be 100% no sugar, no junk food. But I think those things in moderation won't hurt him anyway, and there's no need for him to feel those things are 'forbidden' or else when he's older he'll be sneaking around, eating behind my back. I don't want that... But YEAH to Organics and YEAH to them being more and more readily availble. The wants of consumers aren't being wholly ignored! cool cyrstal

I love organic. I actually just did my paper on it. I just wish it would soon be more commonplace and then health food stores would realize that they can't monopolize it and charge so much. ------------------ Food is the only art that nourishes! IP: Logged |

I am so blessed because our local supermarket carries organic everything and I don't have to pay the high health store prices You know you can request your grocer carry certain things and they are usually so responsive to customers needs. I think organic tastes better IP: Logged |

Merry be to all, I myself do prefer orgnaic foods. They do taste better, but do cost more. Doesn't the purple plate kinda cleanse non-organic foods from pesticides? I am new to this web-site and find all the communications wonderful! I know that pesticides and other chemicals affect our liver in a very bad way, and we need to avoid them as much as possible. If the purple plate helps, it would make it easier to eat - say at a restuarant or a friends house when organic is not possible. (If not embarrassed about the plate) Help those who just can't afford to buy at the high price "healty store". What do you think?

wannabe ~ welcome to the board Why are you a wannabe? As far as the purple plates.. I'm fairly certain those are for vibrations of foods and not chemicals. Organic foods.. yes! Love them. I've started shopping at Trader Joe's again (much cheaper than Whole Foods) and I've found my grocery bill is just about the same as it was before because I've cut out the red meat and buy other things instead ------------------ and if your world has turned to ashes, i will leave you never even when the sun's blown out, i will shine forever.. i caress you with my charms, i'm your best friend, the dream.. i'm the light that guides you through the nights and deepest haze

I want to be all I can be. I want to be more than I am at this moment. We are all trying to become more enlightened. I want to BE. So I am a wannabe. Lots of wants.....!! Really need to just be. I also had a hard time think of a username, and it just popped in my head and I went with it. Maybe I change it someday. This is such a great site. I have been a fan of Linda's for so long and just stumbled upon this site last week. Love it.------------------ Best Witches IP: Logged |
