we had a huge layoff at work..I still have my job but my cubicle mate was canned....it's been emotional...and...a large piece of her work has now been passed to me. My bosses and the exec's are very confident that I can handle it...to a degree I am too..but oh boy....I'm trying to be optomistic here...but I don't want to become a workaholic...I want to get married and have kids...I feel so squished all the time....and conflicted....crazy picean fish yin and yang drives me nuts sometimes.

FC~ I would have to tell my *boss* that I expected added compensation (at least perks) for the added work load/responsibility - and when they start to sing their sad financial song I'd say, "sorry about your luck, but do I have unskilled/uneducated labor tattooed on my forehead?" and/or "Perhaps you or some other overpaid exec should take a pay cut so this company can afford to pay the people that do the WORK?"

FC....the 'fishies' are great escape artists. If the workload is a bit much, you will find a way to slip thru the net Just keep the superiors posted on what you are able to accomplish and if its not enough for them, then you negotiate a little extra for a little extra time. They will either compensate you or rehire to cover the workload.

Gooberlily....remind your bro that he is now the 'NiceGuyWith*GOOD*Karma. A better job should be on the way!

well..I had a meeting with my supervisor and my boss the other day and they communicated the changes that were going to be taking place in the department and that they tried to match talent with the jobs that needed to be done and that's why they wanted me to work with the marketing exec's and the training and documentation exec's as well as continue my previous responsiblites...they didn't come out and say it but I think my "talent" is in the ability to get along with very "dynamic" personalities and to "handle" very dynamic personalities...plus I have demonstrated the ability to "get the job done", I am certainly looking forward to the challenge but at the same time...I'm on edge...this is the 3rd layoff we've done and I'm frightened but also willing to "ride it out". I obviously have very transferrable skills so if I were to be laid off, I could find another job...it's just that with the economic environment being what it is...it's scarry....also...I really want to close the MBA chapter of my life and I don't graduate until December...I have 2 classes left but I have to choose my classes wisely because with the added workload at my job, I want to be available there but I also NEED to finish my MBA...I'm just trying to strike a balance and keep "everybody happy" as USUAL...and I think that adds to my stress...my wanting to keep everybody happy.

Don't forget to make yours-Elf happy as well, FC

You have quite a lot on your plate right now, remember to take deep breaths and slow your inner pace every once in a while. So much is on your mind and going on around you at this time.
