Hi! I will turn 30 in a month and I've decided that I don't want my next decade to be as unhealthy (and often times unhappy) as the last decade has been. Depression and pure laziness has kept me lethargic and inactive. A bad diet has added on the pounds. I'm curious about what tips you all might have for improving my diet, health and lifestyle. What things do you do that you feel really impacts your life in a positive manner, or what little diet or health tips could you share?? I'd truly appreciate any advice that anyone would like to offer. Thanks!

Pilgrim, with the purchase of STAR SIGNS, you`re already on your way . A wonderful chapter tittled "An Apple A Day" is packed with the knowledge one needs for esoteric, holistic soulutions (oops, I see the misspelling, but am leaving it cuz it must have been ment . I, like la-tee-da, use this book as my bible ! It is quite easy to find; I found both my copies ( I literally wore out the first one) in used book stores. There`s one just waiting for you to discover it juniperb IP: Logged |

A good start is to have a reason to be active. Maybe a job that requires physical activity. ------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Rebecca Clark IP: Logged |

Pilgrim, I don't know if this will help you or not, but what I did a few years ago was to make gradual changes. If you decide to suddenly change your whole lifestyle it may be a shock to your system, to what you normally know, and it is easier to fall back into old habits that way. First I looked at what I genuinely enjoyed doing. I love animals, so I volunteered to walk dogs at the local Humane Society after my own dog passed away. The exercise in those two-hour excursions helped me quite a bit, and the reward of seeing an animal so grateful for a bit of freedom from a small cage had unlimitless rewards. I also began cycling, something I enjoyed doing anyway, and combined this with the dog-walking. I used to cycle almost an hour on the weekends to go to the Humane Society, walked dogs for 2 hours, and then cycled back home. Very exilerating! I also love to garden, so started a large vegetable patch in my backyard the year I bought my house. Mind you, I don't really have a green thumb, but it is rewarding to see the odd tomato appearing here and there. (And the weeds have never looked happier!) I have also (very gradually) eliminated certain *junk foods* from my diet. Coca-cola was a big addiction for me, then one day I decided that was it, and stopped buying it. I've since replaced it with orange juice, and the cravings have long since gone. If you can learn to incorporate things that you love into your daily routine, and substitute bad habits with something a bit less harmful, you will eventually notice a big difference. But my advice is to do it one *vice* at a time, not all at once. Don't overwhelm your system with changes, and if you fall back, don't despair. You have the rest of your life to get back on track again. Good luck to you!

First of all, don't feel alone in your journey to improve your life! I, as well as many other people, seek to feel better and happy with our lives. Like someone said, you already did the first step. I really pay attention to what foods go in my body, and really try to eat a wide variety of things that are good for me. Different colors of veggies and fruits, different grains, there is so much out there. I also try to get a lot of exercise, if not to help my body stay fit, then also to feel better. I always feel like I release so many toxins when I have a good work out. Like someone else said, doing something you really enjoy is great. I love to cook and bake and when I set time aside and do that, it helps my soul!! Reflecting for a moment each day on how much I have to be grateful for is great too. And drinking plenty of water, and being in good company is a plus too. These are the things that I do, but I am really interested to see what other people do too. Thanks!IP: Logged | |
