Hey Guys!

Please help! My dentist just told me that I need a root canal on my front tooth. I don't know – something about purposely killing off a tooth isn't sitting well with me. And I've read that root canals are connected to heart disease, arthritis etc. (Apparently the infection that necessitates the root canal never fully disappears with the procedure and the "poison" is distributed throughout the body - focal infection theory) Whoa! In typical Aquarian fashion I've probably provided too much of a preamble!!! So..is there any alternatives to root canal!?! Ha! If I don't figure out something quickly, my little smiley will have to sport a huge gap in his winsome little grin!!! Thanks!

OOOOOOOOhhhhhhhh yuk! Root canal!!!!!!!!! I've never had it done (touch wood), but it sounds absolutely painful. Could you go to a naturopath or acupuncturist? There has to be an alternative therapy out there that could help you!! Good luck!!

Love and Peace,
Sunmeadow Glades.

Thanks Doll!

I've put off my appointment AGAIN! I honestly thought there would be something out there, but have yet to find anything. I guess it the nature of the infection...it's pretty inaccessible. Thanks for writing! I forgot I posted this!

the bad thing about root canals is that the infection is not cleaned out it's stopped up and then if there is bacteria between the crown and the tissue it causes sinus infections. One girl I know had to have surgery because of a giant nasal infection. Sorry I don't remember the technical terms but she was sick for months. Anyway, I had mine removed. Simply have them remove the tooth and clean out all infected tissue. Let it heal for 3-4 months and either have a crown put it, or a flipper (denture).

Look for a "Mercury Free Dentist" under the yellow pages. You would be surprised how many there are now. He will know all about what to do with the tooth and have an alternative to the usual material for crowns and bridges. If your dentist now won't do it look for another.

My old root canal was a mess. I am sure it was caused by a dentist hitting the nerve when drilling to fill a cavity. No more sugar for me.

I spent somewhere around $1200 having the root canal and crown only to have the whole thing taken out in a few years because the crown wasn't fitted properly. I now have a flipper, yes it's a nicer name for a denture but it's very not obvious and only cost $200. Plus it's for a molar in the back. If yours is in the front you may want to have a faux tooth made.

Ha! You are so funny. Well, the only alternative is to have a faux tooth done, unless you are okay with a flipper. Mine looks very good.
You could try looking at flipper models...Hee hee

The faux tooth is drilled into the bone and basically installed. Be careful of the material they use, there is something called Cerec which is very high grade but only a few dentists have the machine to make the tooth in their office. You could call around. pronounced Sarak

That's the only thing I would use. The flipper is plastic and you take it out at night. It may be too uncomfortable for you. Look around carefully because it's major work. Get a referral, or ask dentists for their credentials, and ask about materials. http://www.medical-library.net/specialties/framer.html?/specialties/_biological_and_mercury_free_dentistry.html

Here is a good link for you.
