These superfoods are believed to help you to live a longer and healthier life.

The 14 Superfoods are:
1)BEANS
2)BLUEBERRIES
3)BROCCOLI
4)OATS
5)ORANGES
6)PUMPKIN

8)SOY
9)SPINACH
10)GREEN OR BLACK TEA
11)TOMATOES
12)TURKEY

The article mentions that each of these should be eaten at least 4 times a week to achieve best results.

Yummmm...I don't do meat, but I love the rest. You can't grow oranges in BC, so I don't get many of those. I would also add strawberries, grapes, cabbage, squash, peppers. OK, now I'm hungry.

As long as that yoghurt isn't sweetened with aspartme, you are good to go. That stuff is poison. I would rather eat my weight in sugar than consume aspartme or Splenda.

I also hear conflicting reports on soy. Call me cynical, but when the wonders of soy come directly from the American Board of Soy Producers, my inner skeptic starts poking me.

I read this article, too, and I was thrilled that I eat most of these foods on a regular basis. Here I felt so good about myself because I kicked my soda and coffee habit, and I have always drank about 5 to 7 cups of tea a day.....until I read that when tea is processed, they use fluoride.

Geeeesh cant win for losing.

I am not trying to be critical, really I am not.....

Interesting thing about soy -- it it highly recommended for women and their systems. Tho it also contributes to thyroid dysfunction. Raw Broccoli the same.

Those 14 foods sound good to me and i already ingest them except soy -- wonder why i am so unhealthy? Oh yeah, i know, it's the stress.

Niki, you are correct. Too much Soy is not good for us. Also broccoli and cauliflower should be cooked and eaten in small portions due to the thyroid.

Everyone who eats soy must read this article!!!

Why You Should Avoid Soy

Broccoli shouldn't be eaten raw- steaming it for as little as 30 seconds releases a particular enzyme that causes indigestion.

I think the key to soy is how much is it processed. A lot of commercial tofu and soymilk is highly processed. I've been known to get the absolute worst stomach cramps from eating soy that's overprocessed. But I've made soymilk on my own (a bit of a process, but not too hard) and been fine. Most kinds of tempeh are fine too. ALWAYS always buy organic soy products. The majority of soy beans are genetically engineered in the US, another thing to keep in mind.

Coool. I like all the stuff on that list. Though I don't eat meat (other than fish) more than once a month, generally. {It's the free range buffalo burgers and moose-burgers from back home that I can't completely give up.. } And it's usually not turkey but once a year.
Salmon is my faaaaavorite dish though.. It's the Alaska native in me that can't get enough. lol

I saved that article Nephthys and will get to it later today..
I hope that fermented soy isn't as bad cause I absolutely love using brown rice miso as a condiment on my sandwiches. I eat it just about every day!
I'm a pretty big fan of tempeh as well..

oh dear, I'd better get to reading..

i've read some of that about soy and thyroid....an important topic for me....

and i just don't believe it! no, i have nothing substantial to support that...but i think there's an ulterior motive in making those claims....and they are false.

i'm following all the natural suggestions for hypothyroidism...but i won't be giving up soy....

soy is good for you. and if anything, supports a functioning thyroid.

Talaith,

I ate so much Soy that it depeleted my thyroid. I was literally wiped out for 2 months. Could do literally nothing. Had to go on disability. Although I have eliminated Soy to Tofu only once in awhile, I am struggling with health issues related to the thyroid.

The only Soy that is safe to eat is Soy that has been fermented for at least 6 months and then eat only a very small amount.

If you haven't read that article you should.

I am also hypothyroid, with a few more complications. I am scheduled for surgery shortly.

I generally eat from the Type A Blood diet - which is pretty easy for me, as i really don't like that ole red meat very much anyway. I do love some salmon tho -- Is it about time to plant those tomatoes?
