How do you lose leg fat, when the rest of your body is thin except for your legs?

This answer is long and drawn out. Physical exercise can tone desired areas and help sculpt them as well, but even still, as a woman, certain areas of the body need to have the padding of fat.. biologically. Certain body types, as well, are very hard to 'lose' fat.
A good lifestyle, proper nutrition is essential. Certain diets, as well, coud prove good. However, you cannot target-lose weight.. For instance, the weight you lose will be widespread.. your thighs, breasts, arms, everywhere.. there is no way to lose only in certain areas. But you can exercise, and make the best of what you have.
You have indicated that you have only fat in your leg area, nowhere else. This tells me you have a typical woman shape, and other than toning through exercise, which may or may not have results, there isn't much, other than plastic surgery (even this with varied results) that you can do.
Rest assured though, that men adore this woman shape. You need these fat deposits for pregnancy and breastfeeding. Sorry, but it is biological in design, and even if you psychologically want no children, which is entirely your right, your body doesn't know that, and is simply doing what it is designed to do.
I much despise my butt and thighs as well, but I tell you, it is the first thing men respond to. Seriously. Work it, accept it, and do what you can to make the best of what you have. Others, who look like waifs, I'll bet they'd love to look like you. Dress to flatter and emphasize your womanly shape.
That is my two cents.

A "fat-leg" here as well

Ika, in addition to what Pixie said - try to love yourself first, and then do exersize and proper nutrition. Have you tried yoga? It helps a lot!

Ah, Yin, you dollface, what a sweet thing to say!!!
But really, slim or not, I am no waif. I have always had a 'woman' shape... Curvy, and my thighs and bottom are that upside-down heart shape.. you know what I mean? They go out at the sides.. affectionately called 'saddlebags'. *grrrr* That is the shape I am stuck with. I fit into jeans well, but always have that feeling my ass is huge... you know? So I have these issues too. They are legitimate. I do not want to lose too much weight all over, either, as this winter, I finally gained some breasts again. Like it or not, I need a bit more meat on the bones, in order to have them. I like them.. they aren't going anywhere!!! LOL. But no matter what, the thighs stay too. Even working out does little for me.

Windsor Pilates are very good for toning and the toning will make the legs look healthy - if they are big they will look like cheerleader or soccer legs.
Just tone, it will make a world of difference to you, Windsor Pilates - everyday.

Thanks, Silverbells, I've looked into Windsor Pilates myself.
Did you get the tapes advertised on TV or you go to a gym? Do you do it every day? What are the results?
Please share!

I just had to read this because my spam box contained this ByeByeCellulite How dare they presume to judge my thighs like that

Shoveling poo three times a week and digging holes to plant trees and flowers keep my thighs fit. Not sure why, but it works!!

I guess you are right, pixie, our bodies do only what they are designed to.
So Windsor pilates works? I might just have to venture over to Barnes and Noble and purchase myself a pilates video. Is there a specific one recommended for butt and thighs?

Hi Ika,

That kind of fat is called subcutaneous fat. It doesn't go away with diet and exercise-it's permanent fat that can only be removed surgically. Once it's removed that way, it can't come back. (Subcutaneous fat is the kind of fat people get liposuction on-mostly)

Do you have edema? That would be something you'd have diagnosed by a doctor (vascular surgeon). One indication would be to touch/poke your leg where it's heavy and see if an indentation is left.

One thing you can do is wear compression stockings (the good ones that last longer are very, very expensive). Wearing those consistently will help the appearance of your legs a bit. There are different levels of compression, so that might also be something you'd want to discuss with your doctor. They're heavy though and awful to wear in the summer. They do make your legs feel better too (if you're prone to that tired, heavy feeling in your legs).

Do your legs look thinner in the morning?

I know I waffle on about this a lot, but if you want to get rid of fat anywhere, I truly believe this can be done. It would take a lot of mind work but this is my beliefs. The book I am currently reading is by Deepak Chopra, he explains how ageing is unnatural and he contributes to the idea that we can change anything about our bodies if we set our minds to it. If you are willing I would reccommend perhaps a book by Jane Roberts, or Deepak Chopra, they are bound to mention something about this.

Are you talking about Ageless Body, Timeless Mind by Chopra? It's AWESOME!

I am attending Kick-boxing in YMCA. It is really a good exercise for legs and arms too. I have reduced a lot on legs. Even Linda also helps, by imagination. What I do, I look on the legs of the models. I just keep that in mind, that I want the shape of my legs like them. It works.

Yep, that's it Randall ! I'm still only in the first few pages but it's made a massive impact already ! If you like that I really think you should read any Jane Roberts/Seth book...bit complicated but just as amazing !

When I started doing the Pilates everyday, I noticed a difference IMMEDIATELY. By the end of the week my hips and legs had noticably shrunk and my posture was so good. I didn't pay attention to my butt. I saw a difference in my face too. It was insane. I did the twenty minute workout everyday. I ordered it from the commercial's 800 number. I used to have a gym membership and it was nothin compared to Pilates and I used to work-out I think every other day for over an hour with them so... Windsor Pilates is the only workout I would recommend.

my legs swell in the evening as well and look thinner in the AM...

running and kickboxing helped me. Pilates is only going to help your core muscles (abs and back), not the thighs.

I don't like my butt either...but I have to say...Men respond to it like you wouldn't believe...

I am more or an hourglass but I can't get the definition in my legs that I have in my arms....my butt and thighs are curvier but running and kickboxing has helped tremendously.

You also might want to watch your salt intake...also ...if your job requires you to sit...fluid will build up in your legs...so try to get up once in awhile for a little stroll.

Good luck!!!
