Every time I think about doing exercise I am daunted by the thought of commiting myself to it and what to choose as an exercise regime.
I am seriously unfit therefore I need to exercise but I dont have the will power to do it.
BUT MORE IMPORTANTLY I need to start but what am I to do?
I want something not strenouos,I want something more relaxing but knowing I am getting fit.
Any suggestions?

Tink, that sounds like a good book on Roman rulers

Ok, kidding

Walking, just get out and go! There is a wonderful world waiting for you to go out and investigate.

Wear bug spray in the evening tho ; I went out tonight and the noseeums ate me up.

You know, I almost said walking too. But I had to be different. I concur though. Jefferson said something about the human body being built for walking and it therefore being the best excercise. Of course, Jefferson was always right.

Pilates is quite nice too. Start slow though. Ana Caban is a very good instructer.

Juni
was perusing thru the Yellow Wax section and noticed your post about Annabel Lee. That poem played a part in a very vivid dream I had about my mother. I had just been thinking about it and discussing it with my sister that very day. Strange.
How is your nephew doing?

Going out for a walk now.

Hi Yang,
I'm pretty sure there are quite a few versions of pilates. I too need to get into shape, I'm very weak. I took a pilates class thinking it would be a nice calm yoga type thing. It nearly killed me! It was almost full out aerobics and I wasn't fit enough for that. Check with an instructor first and see how much stress is involved. I would personally start with yoga. See if you can borrow videos from the library to get a taste of what you are getting yourself into!
Good luck!

Was it a beginner class, Philbird? A intro class using just the mat instead of the machine should be slow-paced and gentle. There's something out there now called Winsor Pilates which is much more cardio oriented.

Tink, that poem was first read to me when I was about seven years old and it`s haunted me all my life. I feel it right to the soul

It was my dad who introduced me to Poe. When he passed, that poem was the first thing to come to my mind.

Yang,

Would it help to know WHY you should excercise? Your muscles need to stretch. Your muscles, blood, organs need oxygenation, circulation. Everything needs to pump and flow nicely. Your back supplies all the nerve flow to all parts of your body. Your heart needs to be healthy. When your muscles are working, your body will supply nutrients to your bones.

I suggest a variety of things, which need not be thought of as "excercise" if that turns you off.

Walk in nature, or someplace to sightsee, or in your neighborhood. Take a swim. Relax in the water as well as do some swim strokes. Try a basic yoga or pilates class like others suggested. Buy a beginning yoga tape. Go on a hike. Stretch.

good luck!
