I wish I could remembr who it was that had issues with birth control pills and blood clots... I remember reading about it, and thinking "wow.. you hear about that happening but not so close.. you never think you'd be the one..." I just started them last week again, and I have had a charley horse cramp in my lower calf since saturday evening. I am seeing my doctor tomorrow. I don't want medical advice or anything, just interested in your story and what happened, or in any other point of view. Thanks!!!!!IP: Logged |

*Smooches for LibraSparkle*Yeah.. I have had so many issues with birth control.. none seems to go easily for me.. so while this isn't surprising, it is disappointing. I am tired of wondering if this'll be the month I am mistakenly pregnant. I refuse abstinance. I don't want any more babies right now. Darn Scorpio ruling the reproductive tract.

hey pixel...it was me who had the bloodclot. I don't mean to scare you, but it started in my leg and moved to my heart. the pain was unbearable. my first day on the pill I fainted. the dr said i was just dehydrated. within a month i was in the hospital with a pulmonary embolist (blood clot that moves to the heart and lungs). I wish I never went on the pill to begin with, because I am still on blood thinners atleast until october (side effects suck!) and have to get weekly blood tests (i hate needles). if you have any more questions, let me know.IP: Logged |

Purple zen. Hi Hon! I honestly thought it was you.. but I didn't want to be wrong. That sounds horrible. Still going through it, too! I am curious what type of pills were you on, and was it a mini-pill? Estrogen and progesterone? Do you have a brand name? Also.. it wsn't immediate, but the pain... did you feel it travelling? Or was it localized? You fainted? That's awful. It's just that I haven't had an abnormal cramp since I was pregnant with my son in 1994...... I had a pregnancy related calf cramp... but I haven't had any since, so it seems concerning that a few days after I started them, I should get a persisitent one.... I took an aspirin at work today... tomorrow I will check it out with the doctor. Thanks for any info... and by the way... If I hadn't read your story, I might not have thought anything of it.... so some things happen most definately for a reason. Thank you.IP: Logged |

Thanks, Cancerian Moon... Yes, I walked to work this morning, and the pain was still there. I remembered reading about purplezen's issue, and it got me thinking. I work at a Pharmacy, so I asked the Pharmacist as soon as he started, and he gave me an aspirin just in case. I phoned my doctor immediately, and she fit me in tomorrow. I'll keep you all updated. (As if I wouldn't . Like it or not) I am concerned... but a bit of a hypochondriac, all in all.. I am cautious, yet at the same time free-wheeling. I can have chronic pain for a year and not check it out. But if it nags at me, I go immediately. This is one of those things.. too synchronistic.IP: Logged |

Pixie, as I recall, you are a smoker. That greatly increases your health risks, when taking birth control pills.I take Lo/Estrin 1/20, (not sure if that's the correct spelling), it's the lowest dose you can get. I've taken it for many years with no problems. Even though I don't think BC pills are the healthiest thing on earth, they remain the most reliable form of birth control besides abstinence. I like that The Pill allows me to be in control. Perhaps you are being a wee bit overly cautious, but your health is the most important thing you have. I'm glad you'll see the Dr. tomorrow. Pixie, I am a big fan of natural healing and while others may scoff, the one of best ways to keep your blood flowing freely is CAYENNE. Hot as you can stand it. Get the hottest peppers and make a tea with it. Add lots of honey and drink as much as you can. Use hot sauce if that's all you have in the house. But get lots in your system. I mean LOTS, because commercial grade cayenne is much weaker that the peppers. Habaneros are the best, but anything will do in a pinch. Again, make it palatable with honey but get lots in your system. I make cayenne tea with 150,000 heat unit cayenne every day to keep my arteries clean. Oh, but don't do this on an empty stomach, be sure there's food in your belly. CancerianMoon and PurpleZen I wish you continued healing. IP: Logged |

Thank you Trillan. Yes, I am cautious, but yes, I do smoke. My husband ( non-smoker) is PO-ed at me about this. I love spice... but I cannot do hot. I love flavour.. but I can't stomach spicy. Thank you for the suggestion of cayenne, but I won't be able to. I am glad it works for you though. I will discuss the mini-pill tomorrow.....IP: Logged |

hey pixel, the pill I was on was a small dosage pill, I don't remember the name, but I believe it started with a D and is the first chewable birth control pill. The pain was not immediate, but boy did I feel it in about 2 weeks. It was the worst pain I ever had, and I couldn't breathe. Prior to the chest pain, when the clot wasn't there yet, it was in my leg...I woke up screaming because my leg hurt sooo bad. I hope this is just a false alarm for you. I wouldn't want anyone to go through what i went through. keep us posted! IP: Logged |

HI! Thanks ladies.. I saw the Dr. today. At first she seemed quie concerned when I pointed out where the pain was. she started writing up a form to get an Ultrasound done....But then she brought in another Doctor for an opinion. The other Doctor dismissed it pretty quickly. Said to keep my eye on it, if it started swelling or the pain didn't go away, to come back. He said I most likely tore some muscles or whatever. But if I should get edema, come back. It's amazing how quickly your concerns can be dismissed. Er.... diagnosed. I am continuing my pills. My need for intimacy coupled with my need for no babies over-rides my 'pulled muscle'. I am glad I checked it out, and no worries, If I feel that it is something more, I will not hesitate to seee the Doctor again. Thanks for all your concern and help ladies!!!IP: Logged |

There's a reason we say 'better to be safe, than sorry.' I'm glad you had it checked out pixie. Please keep us posted. Oh, and it's cool that you can't do 'hot.' It's hard for a lot of people. Oh. One more thing. I know you don't want a lecture or anything...but...please consider quitting smoking. 'Cause I love you and want you to be healthy. And 'cause you're beautiful and have lovely skin and I want you to keep it that way. And because...you know. IP: Logged |

hey pixel, I'm surprised the Dr dismissed giving you a catscan or something so quickly, I hope it really is just a pulled muscle. Since you can't do hot sauce, drink lots of tomato juice, it's excellent for keeping the blood flowing smoothly (v-8 is fine). Also green vegetables such as spinach or lettuce, broccoli... take care of yourself! IP: Logged |

Dear Pixie,Somehow, these so-called doctors have us believe that they are the experts on OUR bodies. I don't think your concerns should be brushed aside this way. I was on this medication for my tumor and it made me so sick that I couldn't even keep my food down because of the nausea. Despite my complaints, the doctor (he was a man) dismissed all I said. So I changed doctors and specifically asked for a woman. She listened to my story and told me that there is a new drug which would not give me as much nausea. I started taking it and feel so much better. If you're concerned, you have the right to be heard! Take care sweetie
