I went to the dentist today and I have three new cavities. I already have about 14 fillings in my mouth I brush, I floss, and I even use an anti-cavitie rinse. Is there anything I can do (besides giving up sweets, NOT going to happen) to help prevent more cavities?IP: Logged |

Sorry I should have said more but I was in a hurry. It has been shown to absorb through the teeth and help small cavities. www.greatamericanproducts.com Calabsorb. IP: Logged |

I have no idea why cos I am the biggest sugar junkie, but I've never had a cavity! Also, I've never had broken a bone or had stitches or anything but up until recently, I used to get sick ALL the time. The most serious was when I was about 4, I had a fever of about 103 or 104. That and I've always had really bad migraines (my mom gets them too.) Well, since I've stopped eating meat, about a year now, I haven't been sick once or showed any signs of such but I still get headaches.A bit off topic, but I just thought it was weird. *shrugs* IP: Logged |

hey dorkus, I've never had any broken bones either (knock on wood!) but I have had stitches once (knock on wood again!). I don't eat meat very often. I do love sugar though, and giving it up is NOT an option IP: Logged |

Gia,Can kids take Calabsorb? My oldest is lactose intolerant and takes calcium suppliments... but it still really effects her teeth. She had to have two caps put on a couple years ago. The dentist, of course thinks she's not brushing enough.. which is (IMO) retarded because my youngest has never had a single cavity and they brush their teeth at the same time twice a day! Very good question. Thank you for answering it Gia! Such a simple thing, but if you floss after meals.. Once you get into the habit, it takes no time at all.. like a minute after a meal, in the bathroom. I keep a small spool of floss in my purse. And honestly, no halitosis, or unsightly food particles. Also, chew gum (sugarless) after eating.. or at least rinse out your mouth. Chewing stimulates saliva, and cleans the uneven surface of the teeth. Also, you can use an oral rinse with flouride added. (Oral-B makes one) I am prone to cavities too. Yes, I love sweets. I have a dentist appt. next week. IP: Logged |

thanks pixel, I guess I should get into the habit of flossing. I already chew gum after meals (sugarless ofcourse) and use a flouride rinse (and brush of course, lol). IP: Logged |

Sugarless gum causes cavities. The artificial sweeteners cause bacteria (streptococcus mutans) to multiply rapidly and coat the teeth--where they wait until food is eaten and go to town working on that enamel. Chewing gum is excellent and should be done after every meal; however, one should always chew sugared gum, because all gum becomes sugarless in a minute or two. ------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." I'm afraid I'm with Randall on that one. Don't get me started of fluoride please. It causes no end of problems and studies do not support it's claims. If you can't avoid it in toothpaste, then please don't add more damage with rinses. By a natural mouth wash instead. Flossing is great, so is brushing and so is gum. Artificial sweeteners, well we've already had a long chat about those remember? Gia

so sugarless gum is actually bad for you? What's wrong with flouride? IP: Logged |

Flouride is toxic. The natural mineral may actually help teeth, but sodium flouride is not the same thing. Many coutries have banned flouride in products. ------------------ "Never mentally imagine for another that which you would not want to experience for yourself, since the mental image you send out inevitably comes back to you." Sorry... Just passing on the things my dentist told me to do. Didn't mean to spread erroneous information from my dentist. I'm seeing him on Friday, does anyone want me to pass on a message?IP: Logged |

You want me to tell my dentist not to swallow? Um.. okay, but I think he's married anyway. Good advice to remember though. IP: Logged |
