First off I have to say, I am very upset with myself and only my self for these problems. In the last year I have gained a total (and still climbing im sure) of 20lbs. I am 5'9" and used to weigh in at 120 (which I admit is rather thin for my build and height) I gained about ten lbs and was very happy with where I was at(this was a few years back). I didnt look unhealthy. I had some mass to my body. And actually got a lot of compliments from friends and peers. But now a few yrs later I have gained 20lbs. I have tried to go on diets, but its rather hard when cooking for two and the other doesnt want to eat DIET food. I am storing a weight gym station for a buddy of mine. And figured “Hey now I can work off all that extra weight I’ve been gaining” Yeah right! I cant stick to a schedule like that for the life of me. I tell myself I will, and I don’t follow thru. I have tried Trim Spa, guess what, cant remember to take the pill daily when I eat. So now I weigh in at 153lbs and am very unhappy I must add. Now on top of all that, I noticed the other night I have stretch marks on my bottom that are purple. I have never had to worry about such things before because I never could gain any weight and weighed in very low. I used to be able to eat and eat and eat and not have a worry in the world. I do realize our body are ever- changing. But I cried when I saw those stretch marks. Almost as if it was a wake up call to do something. I have seen allot of threads regarding weight control issues, but I have not seen anyhting for stretch marks. I had heard from a dear friend to rub vita E oil on them. But she didnt know anymore about it as it was something she had heard.
So on that note, any one know about vita E and stretch marks. Where can I get it? Just rub it right on them? Take in pill form? How often to apply (if it need be rubbed on) Will it take the purple color out? Will the stretch marks disappear or just appear to be gone? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks!

Angela, I have been fighting my stretch marks for years now. You can't make them disappear but you can speed up their 'healing' that would be the state in which they are white and less visible.

You have to keep them 'oiled' - I make sure I put any kind of lotion or Vit E or really anything I have handy and rub it in, massage it for a while.

My grandmother had used LARD on her pregnancy stretch marks. She said lard was the best remedy.

Honestly, I don't believe there is a way to get rid of stretch marks apart from plastic surgery.

A smart thing to do is to keep a balanced body weight so you reduce the chance of their APPEARANCE in the first place.

Don't worry too much, keep applying vit E or oily lotions on them and whatever you do - don't go on a drastic diet - that will just get you more stretch marks.

Good luck to you!

i totally feel your pain. i have stretch marks all over my stomach and hips from weight gain in the past.
now that i'm losing a lot of weight, i always get a little sad that no matter how thin i get, i'll never want to wear a bikini or a cute lil belly shirt cuz i'm too embarassed about the stretch marks.
but maybe i can help you with the losing weight part...i highly recommend this book called "eat to live" (see the website at http://www.drfurhman.com ). he basically promotes a vegan diet, but does make some modifications for meat eaters. his basic concept is that you want to eat things that have a high-nutrition/calorie ratio. basically it boils down to everything in the produce section is good; everything outside it is not-as-good. which i think it a pretty healthy way to look at things.
i also recommend using http://www.fitday.com to track the calories you eat vs. the calories you burn (make sure to put "sleeping" as an activity, otherwise the calories burned is a little high and doesn't give an accurate view...).
as for exercise...maybe the home gym just isn't for you.the important thing in finding the right exercise, is to find something you *enjoy* doing. that's what's gonna make you stick to it.
i started out using the "slim in 6" series cuz i saw an infomercial and was impressed that the "after" pictures still showed real people. they still had bellies and fat, but you could see a definite improvement in their appearance. when i did that program, i didn't lose a lot of *weight* but i did lose a lot of inches, and that spurred my interest in other exercising (made me not embarassed to go to the gym, etc.).
love,
cp

Thanks for all ur help.
Thats what I need to do is find an exercise i ENJOY doing. It very hard to get motivated living in an apt. in a dumpy, dangerous part of town. I dont like spending time outside where I live. (I'm afraid i'll get shot) I really love being outside, but like I said unfortunatly I cant in this neighbor hood. We are planning on purchasing a house of our own, which would motivate me to do more outdoor things, gardening, walking, riding bike etc. - till winter hits us. I cant stand the cold, go figure - I live in Alaska. But i need to get doing something cause I dont want to gain anymore wight. Thanks for the links I will check them out later this afternoon.
As far as stretch marks go, I wasnt sure if they could be ERASED or not. M y thought was what u both had told me that the APPEARANCE can be reduced, ut not physically gone. I know u both had said lotion, but would it be better, if it were a Vita E lotion. I have this stuff at home that I bought from Sams club, big tub-o-lotion that is a "Vitamin E" lotion. I used to use it on my face when I began breaking out really bad. But once my face began to heal, I noticed the lotion was rather oily and quit using it on my face. (since i was trying to rid my face or break outs) I guess what i am asking is Vitamin E the healing factor in riding the appearance in stretch marks or is that a myth!

I'm not a skin doctor or anything, but Vitamin E can be bought in capsel form and periced open to apply on the skin. It is a thick oil and I could never even THINK of putting it on my face, as I am very prone to breakouts from any oil or oil-based moisturizer.

However, the pores on your body (save the back and chest and rear-end) do not produce the amount of oils that create breakouts, so it is okay to use heavier, oilyer products on stretch mark areas. I think it would hold moisture in better, too.

My suggestion is to apply your favorite lotion right after you get out of the shower or bath. Your skin is full of water and the lotion with 1. hold that water in and 2. create an additional layer. Then, moisturize again later that day or before you go to sleep. Stretch marks heal faster when your epidermis (your skin, which is an organ, by the way) is healthy. Health is based on a few things, as with most of the other organs: hydration, nutrition, and external protection. You can take the vitamin E in pill form and it will help from the outside in--along with proper diet. And drinking water will help your whole body, as well as the skin.

I don't think Vitamin E will make the stretch marks go away from any properties in it, just from the body's use of the extra oils to protect the skin from drying out, and to heal itself quicker. Mine only start to disappear when I'm tan, but I'm sure that's causing more problems than results in the end, so I won't recommend it.

Hello,
It's a bit weird because I am 17 and I recently got stretch marks on my butt!! I have no idea where they came from. During the winter last year I weighed about 130 lbs...from weighing 118 the summer before. Then I went down to 120, and now I have stretch marks on my ass! What the hell! Is there any way to get rid of them permanently....while I'm still young and my skin is able to heal more efficiently?
