My sister has hinted at getting me a new mattress for X-mas. Sick of the old-fashioned coil mattress been on for too long. I'm a thin person who likes to sleep on my side, plus I've got some back and hip problems, (some nights I toss + turn my hips are achy - like the bed is too hard.) Being as light as I am, If I have a mate to sleep with I tend to slant to his side!!!

So I've been looking into memory foam. I tend to sleep hot, sweats, (Lots of fire in my chart?!!) so would foam make that worse? Looking at ones with wool pads as a topper. any one had any experience with the toppers they sell to go over your existing mattress? Is that just throwing money away? It would definately be more in the pricerange to get a top-of-the line one of those if I thought it would make a difference.

Airbeds sound great, as you can combine all these things with them, but was told by a salesman at a big bedstore that they only carry one kind and they don't really reccomend them cause the air pumps and all, the technology isn't that great and you'd always be having problems.

Futons are the old standby, and I do love them for comfort, but I might not get this chance again and want something that'll last.
Plus I'd have to get the whole frame, too.

Been web-surfing and the amount of bedding available out there is bewildering!!! Plus whatever I do get needs to be at the bottom of the scale - looked at the all-natural sites and they looked great but as usual (sadly) so much more expensive!!

Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, I'm so confused right now, such a big investment (not just $ - I'm going to be spending alot of time there!!!) Also a BIG investment as far as size!!! No matter the warranty or trial period no fun installing and returning one of those babies! Anybody have any luck getting one online?

Thanks in advance....
Here's to future great !!!!

In my experience futons hurt to sleep on unless you have a HUGE mattress on it. My parents have the Select Comfort Bed and my mom HATES it... maybe they have improved them since they got theirs but she hates it. I have an aunt and uncle with the posturepedic foam bed and they really like it. Hope this helps... good luck shopping!

My advice?
Invite marcia to try it out.. (also invite a sexy single man for her to try it with)
Nothing like applied demonstration of a bed's capabilities.
Sorry Marcia, I'm teasing!!!

Oh, I don't know, wouldn't want it worn out before I even get a chance to use it!

Thanks for reminding me Astronomis, the only futon I ever liked had foam inside, which quickly wore out. Then it was like a rock.

still looking!!! (gives me a headache! - beginning to think it'd just be easier to sleep on the floor!)

I bought a Sealy for $500...innerspring mattress...five years ago...the salesman, of course, wanted me to spend more...said this one wouldn't hold up...but I move so often...like cross-country...and leave big stuff behind...anyway...after 5 years...it's starting to sag a bit. It was blissfully comfortable until just recently tho. So, does that average to about $100 a year that you want it to last?

The basic design of the innersprung mattress has changed little in the last 15 or so years.
*So a secondhand one would probably be just as good.

Has anybody tried the sleep number bed? I may go for it myself. My hubby is a wee bit heavier and I dip. I should not dip as I spent a fortune on a supposed supa dupa double spring with all the trimmings. I still dip and roll towards him. If I try sleeping on the far end any more then I already do, I'll end up on the bloody floor! He complains that I end sleeping on top of him and that he can't move. I tell him how bloody lucky he is to have me on top of him every night *laughing*

thanks for all the posts, I've pretty much given up for now, (everything I wanted was too expensive) but I want to keep researching, cause I still need one!!!!

lol about the rolling, I'm slim and that's always been my prob too, the only solution I've seen is to skip the boxspring and have a firm piece of foam on a hard frame...

the sleep # is an air mattress, correct? would think it would have the same probs I mentioned at the top.

Hi delerious, I bought a memory-foam mattress topper at Sams Club before Christmas for only about $100, knowing I could take it back if I didn't like it. I LOVE IT. I also would wake up with achey hips and some other joints periodically and had to get up slowly and kind of hobbled around for awhile. After the first night on the memory foam, I practically jumped out of bed the next AM, no aches, and have felt as good ever since. I personally don't get hot on it, but I keep it very cool at night, always have, as I get hot in bed, too. I have a sister who had the whole mattress and did have to send it back for getting too hot on it. Also, when a grandaughter has slept in bed with me, she does not roll toward me at all. I highly recommend getting one at Sams or Costco so you can easily return it, should you need to. Good Luck!
