I have had one experience with reiki at a metaphysical church last year and since then I've wanted to become attuned. Can someone tell me how to find a legitimate practicioner? I don't want to be in the hands of just anyone, esp not a master who attunes me. Thanks I would really appreciate your help

Hey LeoSweets!

I think it's great that you want to learn Reiki. My suggestion would be to do some research in your area. Open up the yellow pages, call around and ask questions. Talk to others, find out where they were taught and what experiences they had with the classes and their teacher. I found a good link that I think will help you in your search. It gives some basic quesions to ask the person who will be teaching you.

Most important, put it out there into the Universe! Let your dreams be known and ask to be led in the right direction - to the person and situation that is perfect for you on your path. This really works wonders. Trust and Faith. I try to reMIND myself of this daily.

All the best to you.

Questions to Ask about Reiki Training

For yourself:

Should I study Reiki at this time?
Do I feel in my heart that I should study with this person?
Is this person a good learning partner for me?
Am I willing to commit to regular practice so that this method (indeed, any method!) may yield results?

For a Reiki teacher:

What do you cover in your classes? How many hours of class time is there? How much time is instructional and how much is hands-on practice?
Will this training initiate me into, or progress me within the Usui Reiki lineage? Ask them to explain their lineage.
What should I expect from an attunement?
What are your fees and why do some Masters charge large amounts of money?
How long should I wait between levels of Reiki training?
What is the availability for support from you or other Masters after I take this training?
Is there a Reiki support group in my area, or can you help me establish one?
Does the teacher respond in a loving manner that is supportive and empowering (for you)?
For our answers to many of these questions above about Reiki training, see the rest of this Reiki FAQ and these pages:

I love you 26taurus!! Thank you for everything I'm going to print that list of questions and read it off to the master to make sure I don't miss one, hehe. Thats funny that you mentioned having faith in finding what your meant to at the right time. I actually realized that a little while ago, that when I worry too much about an outcome, something goes wrong and when I trust, miracles happen..things just flow the way they should I just tried this at the hairdresser and it worked! My hairdresser was asian, he actually said to me "if you trust me, you will like the way your hair turns out"! If only he knew how true this was. Well sweets, thank you for your advice, I really value your opinions. I can't wait to begin practicing Reiki!!
Love,
Monica

hey hon
I'm a level 3 reiki practitioner. I don't do attunements (don't feel ready to take that step), but I can tell you, for me, reiki has been a wonderful learning experience. I got attuned in the first two degrees for my 13th birthday, and wow, was that an eye opener! See, it works differently for different people. You can heal yourself and others using it, but that healing may not always be physical. Reiki pretty much heals you even if your don't intend it to. Anyway, I'm rambling now, so I'll stop....
do you have any specific questions about reiki? If so, I'll try to answer them as best I can. My general advice would be to find a reiki master who you feel connected with and talk to them and then if you like, arrange to get attuned by them.

Good luck!

Also here's some more good info about "What makes a reiki practitioner". There are really only 3 levels of reiki. Some practitioners add more, "many teachers do not see level III as a separate level from Master, while some do require further training for Master Teacher. This level does not require further attunements nor further symbols." Very cool, alchemist, in essence youre a Master (even though you said you dont do attunements). I was about 17 when I took reiki level I. Now I'm level II. Nice to have another reiki practitioner in LL!

Here's some more info you might find useful Leo SweetHeart. This is a great site.

Level Ability Description
I - Hands on - Introductory level. Gives access to the energy and direct hands on healing as shown in the paper on traditional hand positions. Requires 4 attunements.

II - Level I plus Healing at a distance - This level teaches three of the traditional four symbols used in Reiki. There is generally an increase in the amount of power. The practitioner can also do healing at a distance. Requires 2 attunements.

III (Master) Level II plus the Master Symbol Teaches the fourth symbol, the Master Symbol. There is generally, again, an increase in power. Requires 4 attunements.

Master Teacher Level III plus the ability to train Reiki practitioners Many teachers do not see this as a separate level from III, while some do require further training for Master Teacher. This level does not require further attunements nor further symbols. Instead it is posession of the confidence and knowledge to conduct a Reiki class. This generally comes from apprenticeship with an experienced Reiki teacher to see what it's like on the other side of the table.
