Is it good for you? I mean...will it cause side effects...?(And in case you're not sure what they are, they're some time of chemical lotion that melts the hair off of you...) Christina Eavyn Warner IP: Logged |

I tried Nair once and thank goodness I did a test patch before slathering it all over my legs. I got one heck of a chemical burn. I don't recommend it at all. I know other people who have suggested a product called Epilstop instead, though I can't vouch for it personally because I haven't tried it. ------------------ "This above all: to thine own self be true, And it must follow, as the night the day, Thou canst not then be false to any man." - Shakespeare IP: Logged |

They both burned me and, there is another one out there,.... ah! figures, I can't recall the name of it but, it had the same affect. Definitly do the test, if you decide to try any of these... I was'nt blessed with any patience, personally and, through my own experience, I agree with Eleanore - Do the test first! ~ geminstone IP: Logged |

Ahh, the "un-wanted" hair issue. I haven't had a problem with neither Veet nor Nair but they for one thing smell horrible. Try shaving IP: Logged |

Giggles...isn't there some way we can make all the hair go away? At least the unwanted ones? We do own our bodies--do we not?IP: Logged |

Let's try to ordain it Christnaeavynwarner! Maybe it'll work. You are right Yin they smell awfull. I also don't have trouble using Nair or Veet or even Fem. But the patch test is a must. It depends upon the sensitivity of your skin whether the product will suit you or not. RIP: Logged |

sugaring or waxing is a quick way of weeks of unwanted hair removal. It hurts though. but you get used to it, and as long as you treat your legs with exfoliating product ( though not right away) it will be calm in terms of bumps and ingrown hairs. Eventually, the hair grows back in more sparsely, the objective being that the hair will not visably grow any longer. but this takes years!!!! If you are not allergic, take ibuprofen before hand, It reduces swelling and keeps the pain minimal.IP: Logged |

That is good advice Pixie but I just can't stand it. I hate the between times and the redness. I just shave as it's quick and easy. No burning or chemicals and no redness or nicks with a Mach3 blade. Gia IP: Logged |

I had a roommate from Spain that used to wax regularly. She would melt down the wax in a pan....and then apply it to the strips with something like a tongue depressor. She did that regularly and it caused her hair to grow in more sparsely. I tried it and what I arrived at was that you have to be a masochist to use that treatment. OUCH!!! (Oh, her being so European, she kept the hair in her armpits.)IP: Logged |

yes, you can totally do the underarms! In fact, it is quite easy, only one or two strips, depending on the direction of growth. But yes, this area stings. Alot. But at least it is quick. Regrowth is easy to hide.(Gia~ I used to wax for years, I still do occassionally, but yes, the growing in is a pain.. so I'm a 'venus' girl.) IP: Logged |

Waxing and sugaring make the hair grow in thiNNer.. as do depilitories appear to, as the hair isn't bluntly removed at the skin surface, it is dissolved below. BUt waxing/sugaring take the hair our at its root, thereby weakening it .. the hair goes through stages... anagen, catagen and telogen. Depending on the stage, and the root itself ( some are resillient) the hair can grow back weakly, if at all.. after repeated use. I have patches that don't grow on my legs, because of waxing. It depends on hereditary factors as well. Experiment, and see what works for you. But.. because the hair grows weake, as it is exp[elled beyond the surface of the skin in regular circumstances, when it is too weak, it can create an atmosphere of ingrown hair.. the hair is too weak to push past the barrier of skin and dead skin cells.... so exfoliation is necessary.IP: Logged |

There's something you can get from a dermatologist by prescription that inhibits hair growth. It doesn't remove it....you have to get it removed somehow....but it inhibits it's growth after that. It's rather expensive and of course not covered by insurance.IP: Logged |

Vaniqua? There are also ones with soy or papaya extracts, and are sold commercially.. names like Jergens, Aveeno, Biore, even nair..ROC.. alot of them have hair inhibitor cream formulas. The idea is you apply them daily and after about 6-8 weeks of use, the hair is less noticable. But once you stop using them, it starts again. But the one you can get through your Doctor is stronger as in anything. But usually the stronger a product, the more side effects. *no 'anal leakage' with these products, at least.. hehe.

So waxing makes the hair grow back thinner? good...I had nair, and I was afraid it was going to cause some bad disease later on, as a side effect. But waxing's natural. exfoliate...that means...?IP: Logged |

Exfolliation is by chemical or mechanical means, removing the build up of dead skin cells/debris/sebum that build up on the surface of the skin. Mechanical exfolliation is a usually a course material rubbed over the skin and then rinsed away. Chemical , is by means of an acidic substance ( your skin is slightly acidic) applied, either gradually, at small concentrations, or liberally , under a physicians care, to the same ends. http://www.neostrata.com/a_hme/hme_hme.asp This is a link to NeoStrata.. check out AHA's, for more info. When you are young, the skin sheding cycle is about every twenty eight days.. as you age, it becomes sluggish, and builds up. Anyway. check out the link.... IP: Logged |

There's also laser hair removal, one treatment causes 80% of the hair to fall out and never grow back. After four treatments it's all gone. It cost $1000-1500 for around 4 treatments, bikini and legs. I haven't done it yet but I am saving,I've waxed for years and it is growing in sparsely, but it's still growing way too quickly no matter what I do. I am looking forward to the laser, Natasha

Do you think that whenever you wax or use the lotion thing, if you keep saying or repeating the words "it will grow back thinner, " or something along the lines of that, the hair will grow back thinner? Or what if we say "the hair won't grow back at all?" will that work, once we get our brain to believe it, and know it?IP: Logged |
