Some will know I have been having stomach troubles for nearly two years, with no diagnosis! Since I didn't have acid reflux, the docs didn't think I had real stomach problams. (it's just anxiety!) Yeah right, I have as much anxiety medication as I want, and believe me that wasn't the problem! (Who listens to the patient anymore?) Try this, try that! Nothing worked. Finally, finally, I had an EGD done today, and vwola! Hiatal hernia, without reflux! I'm to take Prilosec for the rest of my life! But I'm wondering if there are any natural remedies out there? I heard cyanne pepper caps, but I'm allergic to pepper! Any suggestions?IP: Logged |

Hi Phil! I also suffer from stomach problems. I am on Pepcid everyday. I can't get by with out it. THey also thought I had anxiety. My niece had a surgery for hietal hernia 3 days ago. They took small pieces of her stomach lining and put in in her esphogus. I think this is a new surgery. Good Luck to you! I hope someone comes up with some Good solutions. I will be watching this space. PS How is Jay??IP: Logged |

Of course, now I have a big hernia to go with my big overies! Bluemoon, Jay is well, he had his surgery on his arm. I have to go for another test though. It's a test where you drink a liquid and they take pictures throughout the day to watch your food digest. She's concerned about the nausea. There will be no gall stones to pass out!IP: Logged |

I'm confused Philly. Prilosec IS a reflux medication. It's classed as an anti-acid pump inhibitor. It controls the backwash of acid reaching the esophagus, before I go into details, it's proper chemical name is OMEPRAZOLE so please inform your dentist if you are having dental treatment of any kind. Also, not to be taken with iron or any of the diazepams, or if you have liver complications. Now people with hernia experience heartburn. It can be triggered by hot spicy foods, coffee, chocolate (sorry!!!) tomato based foods and most commonly enzyme deficiences. This can also cause asthma like symptoms. At first sign of stomach problems drink a large glass of water. Aloe Vera juice is also good. Calcium, Magnesuim, Potassium all alkalize the stomach by binding the acids. Brilliant for you, kind of does what the medication does in a way. Though you MUST be careful with dosages. Chammomile tea is also good. Do not consume carbonated drinks ever. Watch out with all citrus fruits. Eat more veggies and raw foods. Too many processed foods cause acid in the body. No microwave junk or tinned rubbish. No asprin or ibuprofern please. There is a natural supplement that has most of what you need. It's called ACID EASE available from your natural health store. One recent study showed that 75 percent of heartburn sufferers had hiatal hernias. Do NOT TAKE anything containg HCI HYDROCHLORIC ACID. I hope this helps. Gia IP: Logged |

I was able to see the pics they took of my asophogus and stomach. I didn't have reflux or heartburn, that's what has been confusing the docs. I did see the hiatus, pretty large. I did some further reading and found out you can have a hiatus hernia without reflux. I saw some acid in areas of my stomach, but very little. So far the Prilosec is working for the bloating, however toward the evening, the nausia returns. More tests on the 5th. Thanks Gia!IP: Logged |

Well they've given you an acid reflux medication so they must have thought you had enough acid to cause you problems later. Though the reflux into the esophagus may not have been an issue, certainly for sure the stomach acid was. I know I'm right on this so please talk to your doctor just to confirm.Alprazolam is Xanax. It is to treat anxiety and panic attacks and it works by depressing activity in the central nervous system. It is not recommended for long term use because it's a dependence drug. Sometimes it causes depression, which is often what it is prescribed for. Brain chemicals are far from an exact science. Please take no allergy antihistamine drugs with this medication, no cough medications, no pain killers. Buprpion is the same as Wellbutrin. It is also an anti anxiety and depression medication. The problem is it can cause stomach irritation so just make sure your doctor is aware that you are taking it along with the other medications. Sometimes they need reminding. I am frankly amazed you are prescribed those two at the same time but you must know why. I hope this has helped you. I wish all things good and hope you feel better soon. I've lost your email address because I had a virus on my last PC and then had to buy a new one. I also changed my email adress due to finally getting DSL. Gia

Do you remember ages ago you said drinking water made you ill? I told you then that this was symptomatic of too much acid in the body. Do you drink enough water Philly? Gia IP: Logged |

Well I finally got the results from the gastric empting test. And blood work. I have a slight case (it doesn't feel slight!) of gastric paralasys, (sp) and I'm hypoglycemic. (as well as the hiatus hernia!) The Zelnorm they gave me, gave me so much abdomanal pain, I can't take it. The Prilosec and Zantac don't work. As a matter of fact, I feel worse! So, I think I'm off to a Reiki healer. I'm giving my body a day or so off any meds in preperation for the ginger root remedy I heard of. UGH!!!! IP: Logged |

PhilBird ~ My Dad has this same hernia and I am hypoglycemic. I know that he had had about enough of the poking and proding too, by the time they discovered the hernia. I remember having sympathy symptoms, when it would get really bad for him... Not to long after that was diagnosed, he started having trouble with his lower abdomine.... took them another year and a half of tests and, needles and, pokes, and,.... well, you know.... he was finally sent for surgury on, yet another, hernia! Anyway, he's not one to pursue alternative treatment methods so, I think he is on the Prilosec. Hope all gets back to good, very soon for you PhilBird. Take Care ~ geminstone IP: Logged |

Philbird! I have IBS...really bad. Zelnorm and Dicyclomine help a little. But not enough. Add to that the MS like neuological trouble etc.,and it is no fun. Not looking for sympathy, but I sure can understand how you feel! I hope that helps. PS.can you eat yogurt? It helps me out with the reflux and hiatal hernia (yeah got those too...) and also sometimes simethecone will keep the burning bubbles down. And do not eat before bedtime anything rich or spicey! That will give you a backwash that will make your esophagus more sensitive and too easily re-irritated. IP: Logged |

Thanks guys! I think of you often too 26! Fayte, I don't have reflux, I believe the acid is staying in my stomach. I tried Zelnorm, but the abdominal cramps got intolerable! I'm having trouble finding foods that agree with me. Bread, milk, watermelon, and other bland foods agree with me, but are still taking forever to digest, even veggies! I cringe everytime it's time to eat, wondering if I will be nauseated! Right now I'm taking A high dose of Prilosec and Zantac, but it only helps a little. I just feel blah all the time. Thanks!
