Hi all, im lurking today and had to post this question. During my cycle, closer to the onset of menstruation i get a funky taste in my mouth. It seems like for a week or so i have bad breath. Does anyone know what changes in my body make this happen? Thanks.

There are a few things that come to mind such as dehydration, metabolic wastes and toxins released from the glands.

Not to mention the obvious bad diet, dental hygiene, respiratory tract infections, nasal drip, fasting because that releases more toxins exhaled from the lungs.

Well im a virgo so im pretty fanatical about diet, hygene, water intake, exercise and the like. I was wondering if the hormones can do it. Or if my blood sugar drops due to hormonal changes related to the cycle?

Gia, Im not sure you're understanding my problem. This only happens to me the week before my period. Why would that be? I find it unusual and I haven't heard anyone else say this is a pms symptom. Its not a general problem for me, only one week a month. Thank you for your attempt here.

thirteen I dont have your particular problem but the week before my period I get all sorts of stuff, migraines, dizziness sometimes, bloating, painful boobs, which I know is all due to hormones. What I've found that helped me was Evening primrose oil capsules - they work so well that I dont even realise my periods due these days. Your problem could be due to hormones, although I cant be sure. Evening primrose is supposed to be good for regulating your monthly bodily functions. Perhaps the capsules might work for you?

I spoke to a endocrine specialist today and just in passing mentioned your problem. She said, when your due for your cycle all kinds of biochemical reactions take place, which in turn affects the glands which produce hormones. Normally excess estrogen which causes depression, mood swings, profound irritability and sugar cravings, headaches and of course fluid retention which can retain toxins. It's impossible to specifically say it's one thing when so much is going on in your body. She asked about your diet and suggested essential fatty acids, B complex - especially B6.

I'm sorry if I can't be specific enough. I get weird tastes in my mouth during my cycle and my body temp increases slightly. Only during my cycle too.

Thank you moonshine. Gia, thats great info. I know that somehow this is hormonal because Ive always had this for the last 15+years just that one week a month. I have added B6 recently but never really got into the fatty acids. Im also approaching menopause ( i sense it coming) and i definately think my estrogen is out of whack. Maybe ill try the fatty acids. Thanks again.
