I have a few knots in my back, chronic pain from a car accident and posture. Thers one especially large knot in my shoulder/neck area. A lot of us carry tension there. How do you get rid of your knots? My boss claims by applying strong pressure to the most painful spot you can remove the tension....hes trained in shiatsu..i'm not sure force is the best way. I've tried yoga and all kinds of relaxation techniques, but nothing seems to get rid of it. Any suggestions? IP: Logged |

Hi BRHow are you? Sorry to hear about your discomfort, I too had a card accident years ago and got whiplash OUCH! Ive always gone for healings but found cranial sacral was great, the therapist gently manipulates the muscles in the body, it is non invasive and very relaxing and my aches and pains have been kept at bay. Maybe you could give it a try, I prefer to being pulled and pushed by a chiropractor, that feels like bloody torture to me - love Sue xx IP: Logged |

dear Roamer ~i have the feeling that acupuncture would help you tremendously. the energy healing in this technique i think would open up your meridians and dissolve those blocks and knots. have you tried this? i know it sounds trite, but also be sure to drink plenty of water every single day. rehydrating your body can manifest miracles...i'm doing so presently, and many of my muscle aches and pains have dissipated. the key is daily consuming a minimum amount of water -- a quart or two, or more. love and healing, Saffron ------------------ i dreamt tomorrow had a prettier face IP: Logged |

Good Morning BR,I'll echo Saffron's advice. Lots of water, and perhaps try a good accupuncturist.I just saw one this Monday and he spent an hour and a half on me, not just with the little filaments (they're not really needles), but also working on blockages and literally massaging/pulling them out. He burned some mugwort on my back (the heat did not touch me), and did some other groovy things, too. Best of luck in your healing. Oh, I thought of something else, but darn it, must get to work...will write more later. IP: Logged |

I do a few things for this. One is a balance ball. I lay on it arching my back and keeping my neck arched too until i feel the tendons snap. That releases a lot of pain. Also i lay on a workout bench. Let my arms hang down and that too releases the tendons. And my favorite is the massage chair. I can really work those points of pain on that thing. IP: Logged |

Trigger point therapy. Yes, it's pressure on the painful spot and/or trigger point in the muscle(s) affected and some times other muslces are involved that don't hurt until you touch them. It can be painful because the pressure must be applied for 30 seconds in a range of 5-7 discomfort ... but it works wonders. However, you would need more than one treatment for it to go away. It works on the principle of ischemic compression ... stop the blood flow to the injured area and you stop "feeding" it ... when you release the pressure, new blood rushes in helping to clear out any toxins that have settled there plus bringing fresh oxygen to the muscle thus helpling to repair damage fibers. Over time, the "knot" dissolves. Proper stretching techniques performed right after this sort of treatment will help increase the rate of healing even more. Everything else recommended here would also go a long way towards helping you, too.------------------ "To learn is to live, to study is to grow, and growth is the measurement of life. The mind must be taught to think, the heart to feel, and the hands to labor. Save your pennies and call someone trained in "structural integration" better known as ROLFING. IP: Logged |

Thanks ladies, I can really feel your empathy. I drink at least 2 liters of water a day. I haven't tried accupuncture, but because I just graduated from college I have no medical insurance. How much is an hour session out of pocket? What is this rolfing anyway? Rolling on the floor laughign? hahaha....I've heard of it I'm convinced that chiropracty is actually bad for you. Thanks for all your replies IP: Logged |

hi blue, rolfing is a type of deep tissue massage basically. i will make a few claims now but its up to you to do what you will with them. rolfing will permanently correct scoliosis up to at least 80%. rolfing is painful (tough love. rolfing cures incorrect posture permanently. there is no "cracking" like chiropractic. These claims may seem outragous, but i urge you to investigate for yourself. typically a "rolfer" will do 10-12 one hour sessions within the span of a year and then you are done. its not like chiropractic because after the 10 sessions thats it, you never need to go back. each session usually costs about 85$. i cant endorse this technique enough, i wish you the best. (again, Rolfing is a proper noun derived from the inventor of the technique, Ida Rolf PHD. The generic term is called "structural integration)
i have come to agree with your opinion of chiropractic, its basically stupid, but stuctural integration isn't. IP: Logged |

I'm in the same boat BR. I usually just try to massage the knots out on my own. I dont remember the last time I didnt have any neck pains. I have lots of knots in my shoulders and neck. Hold all my stress there I guess. Plus I'm a Taurus, ruling the throat and neck area.IP: Logged |
