What is a good dose of Vitamin E to take?

I normally take 400 I.U. in the a.m. with breakfast, and at lunch I take my Total E.F.A. (which is my essential fatty acids) which have some Vit. E as well.

Lately I have been swimming about twice a day and my skin is so DRY and ITCHY probably from the chlorine and water.......so I've been taking a 2nd 400 I.U. at lunch too.

I've heard that too much Vit. E. can cause/bring on headaches. I do have a problem with headaches during my female cycle.

I also eat a lot of almonds and a TON of veggies so do I get some Vit. E. in those?

So what's a good/healthy dose to take?

Up to 2,000 IUs a day should be fine, but only take natural (not synthetic). Take d-alpha, not dl-alpha.

i take 'dry' e -- sources have claimed it's superior to the others. do you know the difference Randall?

Nephthys ~ a very excellent way to moisturize dry skin is to use a salt scrub in the bath. mix 2 cups of coarse sea salt with a half cup of oil, such as sweet almond and scrub your skin in the tub with the mixture. add some essential oils to the salt scrub for a sublime experience such as rose or chamomile, which helps skin to re-moisturize.

A small percentage of people have skin reactions to the oil-based E, so dry is better for them.

Hello Randall and Hedgewitch ~

My Vit. E. is;
"as natural d-alpha tocopherol, with natural mixed tocopherols: d-beta, d-delta, d-gamma". It is Whole Foods brand. I used to buy Trader Joe's brand Vitamins but I really notice a superior difference in Whole Foods brand and prefer them now.

I used to buy Dry Vit. E. but it was more Expen. $$ so I switched back to softgels. Why is dry better?

WoW! 2000 I.U. a day is okay?

We just returned from the Farmer's Market and the Avocado lady had a sign that said that Avocado's have the highest Vit. E. of any fruit. I eat Avocado every day in my Veggie Sandwiches.

Hedgewitch, thanks for the recipe. I do have a body scrub from Aveda that has natural oils/walnuts, etc. in it. I never use it because then it takes longer in the shower and I don't like to waste H20 but maybe I'll use it tomorrow.

Nephthys ~ dry e is better because it has much better assimilation and absorption. a book i have on rebalancing the female system suggests it strongly over other types of e.

aveda is wonderful...but i've never used anything that worked as well the simple salt scrub. i used it yesterday in the shower, a salt olive oil mix, and it was amazing! my skin is still soft and moisturized today. i do love aveda products though...they smell divine.
