This is how it works in a nutshell: Our DNA sends out messages to our RNA -- which they described as chefs which cook up the DNA recipe and send it out to our body. What they learned is that our cells/DNA has a policeman which monitors for "viruses" and intruders. When it determines there is a threat it "sends a message" to kill completely that "intruder" So when the petunia got the script of lots and lots of purple. The policeman saw it as a threat and killed off all the purple even it's natural purple DNA. Scientists tried this on a woman with macular degeration by sending in suspicious messages to create more of this problem. The result was that the policman killed off this suspicious message as well as the DNA that was causing her vision problems. She significantly improved but was not cured.

Imagine sending in "suspicious messages to create lots of Cancer, theoritically the Policeman would kill off this intruder and the existing Cancer as well. Scientists are now experimenting with ALS, and many diseases.

What I am noting may not be relevant to the story, but I thought let me still share.
Here goes.

Every second our body is renewing. Our hairs are growing, old skin cells are replaced by new cells. Its as if, a great intelligence is always there, even when we are asleep.

The idea is to be a policman at each cell level and when the old cell gives away to the new one. To capture that program and use it in a way we want. For example if its a cancerous cell, we can stop the program and prevent overgrowth. If its a good cell, we would allow its reproduction.

Its an exciting way to be healed and is getting popular in many countries.
