Thought I would post some interesting info for those who consume Soy Products like I once did: off of www.mercola.com Dr. Mercola's Comment: The Israeli Health Ministry has made a wise decision, and I hope the knowledge of the potential dangers posed by uninformed soy use continues to spread. After an aggressive marketing campaign from the soy industry, Americans are convinced that soy is a miracle health food. Some 200 million Americans are now eating soy in record amounts and in newly created, highly processed forms like soymilk, soy burgers, soy energy bars, soy ice cream, soy cereal and soy meat. Meanwhile, thousands of studies link soy foods to malnutrition, digestive distress, immune-system breakdown, thyroid dysfunction, cognitive decline, reproductive disorders, infertility and a host of other problems. Millions of Americans feed soy formula to their infants. The estrogens in soy can irreversibly harm your baby's future sexual development and reproductive health, and can cause many other developmental abnormalities. Soy formula should never be used as it can damage your infant. It: Will adversely affect hormone levels, as it has been associated with reduced testosterone levels. Will impair thyroid function through isoflavones present in the formula. Increases the risk of behavioral problems. Will expose infants to up to 2,000 times higher estrogen content. Has potentially high concentrations of aluminum and manganese. There are some soy products that are, in fact, good for you -- but only certain types and in limited quantities. Fermented soy, which includes natto, miso and tempeh, is a health food for most. But soy formula is an abomination that has caused much damage to the children of this country, and it should be immediately banned for sale everywhere. In love and light,

Hi :=)A few days ago I was reading through some old posts here that also had some discussion about how soy products are not good for your health, and I got a bit worried and confused, because, what some doctors write about here in some articles, I mean, I cant believe its really that dangerous. Its a natural product, and also, people in asia eat a lot of soy products and they dont have this thing called, uhm, my bad english, hehe, this thing especially women gets in the mid 40s 50s, Im not sure of the exact name of it. In Asia, there isnt much breast cancer either, and when I read about that it affects the estrogen level, I have also heard that the soy protein is something that adapts to your body, and will give you the estragen only if you need it and lack it, and if not, it will go out thorough your body...!?! It has been done a lot of research on this, and some doctors say it prevents some types of cancer etc, so I get so angry in a way, when you always read something bad and negative about everything these days, everything is dangerous to eat and drink, one doesnt know what to do anymore and who to trust :=( *sigh* IP: Logged |

It's a misconception that Asians eat a lot of soy. They actually eat very little. The Asian diet is rich in vegetables and rice, with small amounts of meat, fish and soy.Additionally, in their diet, they eat bean curd, miso and fermented soy products. If soy is to be consumed, it is mostly benign in those forms, and should also be eaten only in small amounts. The real problem comes when soy is overly processed and made into foods that resemble the American diet, like soy cheese, soy burgers, soy dogs, soy candy bars, soy power drinks, soy eggs, etc. The more the soy is processed, the more protien isolates (pretty sure that's the correct term), and the more potentially dangerous it becomes. There are some interesting articles on soy all around the web, including some important ones on www.drmcdougall.com. I had the pleasure of hearing him speak at a recent seminar on the hazards of soy, especially the overly processed soy. A little soy milk on your breakfast cereal is ok, and still a better choice than cow's milk. Doctors are not immune to misinformation. They often rely on biased studies funded by drug companies, or in this case, soy manufacturers. ------------------ The less I seek my source for some definitive, the closer I am to fine. -Indigo Girls IP: Logged |

Anita I agree with Trillian with her knowledge of soy. However, the key is everything in moderation and closer to the food sources natural state. IP: Logged |

I'm not a huge fan of Kevin Trudeau, but one of his mantras is so very true:If man made it, don't eat it. It doesn't take a brain trust to know that you need to eat a lot of fruits, veggies, whole grains, etc. Ideally they should be organic. I don't believe "all things in moderation." Most of the cr@p you find in the grocery store is only barely food. My choices are far from perfect, but I work on them every day. ------------------ The less I seek my source for some definitive, the closer I am to fine. -Indigo Girls IP: Logged |

I found out last year that I'm allergic to soy. Had a severe reaction to it. Pity because I used to enjoy it. Strange how it came on suddenly. I've realised since that soy (lecithin) is in a whole lot of food including chocolates to bind them. That's why I used to feel to lethargic after certain foods. I can't check everything I eat, but the main blatent soy foods I avoid!IP: Logged |

Sure!First you need to 'activate' your almonds, so soak a few over night then drain the next day. (make sure they are raw almonds) Then try to have 1 parts almond, and 4 parts water, then blend with a good blender! You can always add a hint of coconut milk for extra flavour and creamyness. It's up to you, but you may like to strain the milk before you drink it. This pic is actually my friend's pic of her almond milk. And I got the recipe off her too: ------------------ Your attitude determines your altitude IP: Logged |
