I brush my teeth and gums with tea tree a couple of times a week and use baking soda too......you can mix it in with toothpaste if preffered....it keeps gums free from infection and whitens teeth to!!

Hey there...

It is very good to brush your gums. The first time you do, it may be painful and they may even bleed a little bit. Use your sense, don't do anything TOO painful.

After 3 or 4 brushings your gums will no longer bleed and there will be no pain. If you brush your gums everytime you brush your teeth the gums will be immune to gingivitis.

If it is very painful try a softer toothbrush.

I notice improvement in the condition of my gums when I don't have carbonated drinks--they leach the calcium out of your system. Also take vitamin C and get calcium from food sources. Well.....those things have helped me.

Hey there!

It has been my experience that the gums usually toughen-up in three brushings or less! How are the gums doing?

Did the dentist or the hygenists teach you in their office how to properly brush your teeth and floss? Seriously, like showing you how it is correctly done while you are holding a mirror up to see how they do it?

I was told a similar thing over a year ago, and had to have a lot of dental work done. (Drilling out old fillings and putting in new ones, root canal, new crown, etc.) They told me that gingivitis is reversible and that if I cleaned my teeth properly it will help deter getting germs into my bloodstream too.

It's been over a year and my last check up went really well. Gingivitis doesn't go away over night and it takes diligent effort to help clear it up.

Okie dokie. It is what I sort of thought, because I have been there too. Yes, do definitely keep up the proper cleanings with flossing everyday. Do you floss too?

A good floss product I recommend is one that doesn't rip up your gums if you do it right and, doesn't feel sharply uncomfortable is Oral-b Satin Mint Floss:

www.oralb.com

The product has a wide strip instead of a thin string. If you have gaps, use a special floss that has some gauze on it to get inbetween the spaces, like this one from Oral B too:

I understand that it is a total pain when first starting out something new. I was so motivated when the dentist said it was reversible that I kept going. Key word is reversible

And if you keep at it, you will probably avoid the costs of extensive dental repair that I had to go through.

Good Luck!
