This has been happening awhile, and it may be a matter of stress. It happens mostly when I'm trying to get to sleep.I lay there, and I can feel my heart beating, and it scares me, which causes my heart to beat faster sometimes, which scares me more. I sometimes think that my heart is just going to stop, which really scares me, because I don't want a thought like that to take root. Another thing that sometimes happens is I'll stop breathing for a slightly prolonged moment for no reason. When my body remembers to start up again, which is never a long time it just kind of jolts me. Anyone know anything about this? I can come up with possibilities, but I'm not sure what to blame this on. Could be stress, sleep, caffeine (though I do try to be really good at night), or exercise. I should probably try all of these as remedies. I'm just uninsured at the moment, so I can't go quell my fears at the doctor unfortunately. (By the way, I was kept up an extra hour last night trying to calm myself down.) Sue, In that exercise you gave to sVirgo, where is your heart chakra that you put your hand on? IP: Logged |

Acoustic Godit's a form of a panic disorder, that many I know are experiencing including my daughter to the point that she stopped breathing, lips blue, etc. Do not use med's, very bad experience we must learn what works to calm us down when this starts to happen, before it gets out of control do something, get on the computer do a cross word puzzle yes, find out from Sue, what techniques to use. Many are being accelerated, do you hear a resonating in your left ear? this can cause nausea, and panic disorders as if you are out of control it will become easier to deal with I hope this helps my daughter has completely recovered it wasn't easy, but it can be done Love and Light to YOU IP: Logged |

Try some of the Bach Rescue Remedy. It's available at most health food stores, and it's wonderful for anyone having any sort of anxiety. There are several strings here at LL that will tell you more about the Bach Flower Essences. IP: Logged |

Hi AGTrillian took the words outta my mouth - Rescue Remedy is excellent. My hubbie used to suffer from this and I have just asked for his adivce. He says....get up, drink a pint of water, and the immediate effects should go. Take your mind of the heartbeat...maybe listen to music or watch tv and then go back to bed when you are really tired....he just said keep drinking water. My suggestion AG is to breathe deeply....right hand on the heart chakra and left hand on the solar plexus. Breathe in slowly and hold for 10 if you can....then exhale for 10 seconds if you can....do this as many times as you can.....the breathing should be slow and deliberate! And then pray for help......always helps for me. Would you like me to send some reiki for you....and would you mind if I used your photo in msn for this? Love to you....dont worry....you will be fine... xxx IP: Logged |

Yes please (Send the Reiki)! Where's the heart chakra? Fortunately we had a power outtage at work today, so I got sent home early. I'm going to take a nap soon. I think that will help....as long as I can get to sleep. Thank you, Sue. I you! IP: Logged |

Panicing is become more and more often in today's society, I'd like to see a comparison done between the US and other countries in rates of diagnosed panic disorder.I have panics too I've had them for a year, they're not fun. The most important thing is knowing that you're not going crazy/ and you aren't going to die. This site helped me. http://www.pe2000.com/pan-act.htm You have to realize thats its a mistimed release of adrenaline, and that it will pass within a few minutes. My best resulsts have been from just comlpetely relaxing all my muscles, breathing OUT very slowly, and telling myself its going to pass very soon.
I'm not sure you want to put your hand on your heart, making yourself more aware of the physiological symptoms may increase your panic. You want to ignore your body as much as possible and focus on something else. OH! And rigorous aerobic exercise is EXTREMELY effective! It's mandatory. Exercising depletes your adrenaline reserves, so you'll be less likely to panic.

Acoustic,Just to get yourself through the moment, which can be very scary in itself until it passes, try a very basic yoga practice and breathe. Concentrate on the actual taking a breath in and letting it out, focusing on the complete cycle. Just breathe naturally, but the important thing is to focus on taking the breath completely in and then letting it out completely. Let it relax you and do nothing else except breathe. My yoga instructor is very good, my mind is very active and takes nothing at all for it to race around various useless thoughts, wasting energy. Breathing and staying centered in the moment helps us in every situation in life to stay calm no matter what is happening and go from there. I've also heard good things about Rescue Remedy. Let us know how you're doing! kisses! Laura IP: Logged |

Thanks everyone!I really wouldn't have guessed that diagnosis, but I suppose it makes sense and is correct. I am in a very stressful point in my life at the moment having caused an accident (No injuries) with implications for not only myself, but for my employer as well. I appreciate all the help. Acoustic, please check out this link for Sleep Apnea. Gaps in breathing while sleeping is one of the major symptoms. Well, couldn't hurt to check it out and possibly go see a doctor about it. Sounds pretty frightening an experience for you! http://www.stanford.edu/~dement/apnea.html IP: Logged |

I want to clarify one thing real quick. I am aware of sleep apnea, and I'm aware of how common it is. My dad's probably had it for 20+ years. I'm pretty certain I had it when I used to smoke. My breathing seemingly stopping happens while I'm conscious. That's part of what makes it freaky. Now, I will say that my dad this past year has become narcaleptic. I got to witness it myself this past Christmas. He just spontaneously falls asleep at the drop of a hat. Not when he's driving or anything, but if he has a quiet moment by himself he'll fall asleep fast. He's also quite overweight, had to have a bypass surgury this year, and has pretty severe sleep apnea. He uses a machine to force air when he's sleeping now. Don't know if it relates or not, but feel free to speculate. to all AG IP: Logged |

Well, glad you are knowledgeable about it, AG. Although very sorry to hear about your Dad's health troubles. Thought maybe I should mention it on the off-chance it could be a possibility...but yes, would only happen when you are sleeping. Was concerned is all. IP: Logged |

glad you're feeling a bit better, AG. I'm feeling a bit better today. Thanks. hi Sue. Had the flu the past few days, but coming back to normal hopefully soon. Was a doosey...and my son was pretty sick with croup and had to go to the hospital, but he is doing much better now too. Lovely day to you guys. Acoustic, I've felt that with my heart as well, so remember how scary it can feel. Although mine was due to far too much cocaine. years and years ago...I'm a good girl now. But it did freak me out...and the more freaked out I felt the more I felt as if I was going to actually have a heart attack. Very frightening. IP: Logged |

Just so's you know.. I get that too. The 'forgetting to breathe' thing.. and I have mentioned the heart thing to my Doctor as well, who assured me I was decidedly normal.. and that the coffee I have in my hand is most likely the culprit. No advice really, just similarity and comfort in that.IP: Logged |
