I am 24. I never had a zit in my life until I turned 21. It was as if my skin turned from perfect porcelain to a sensitive, easily blushing, acne prone face overnight.
I've tried everything under the sun for acne. First I tried over-the-counter treatments. If you can buy it in a drug store, I've tried it. Those harsh treatments only made my sensitive skin more red and irritated. Then I tried the expensive stuff in department stores. Instead of a decrease in acne, I only saw the money in my wallet decreasing.
During the summer I got desperate, so I went to a dermatologist. She prescribed a heavy-duty anti-biotic (which wiped out my already weak immune system and made me extremely sick). Then she prescribed duac cream for morning and differin for at night. The products were very expensive, and it took almost 2 months to see any results, and my skin was still not clear.
About 2 months ago, I started to do my own research. I discovered the miracle of "milk of magnesia"! This is supposed to help with constipation, but instead of taking it internally, I started to apply it to my face every night before I went to bed. The results were amazing. In less then a week, my skin went from ruddy to smooth and clear.
Milk of Magnesia is less than $4 for a big bottle! It does not irritate skin, and can be used every single night without any side effects (except a nice complexion!).

I'm not really sure of "chemical make-up", but I know it is something that draws impurities out of the skin, and a surface anti-inflammatory. I guess it is the equivalent of taking a bath in mineral salts.

Has anyone tried this since I posted? It worked for me and my sister, so it will probably work for others.

I think everyone's afraid that it will actually make their skin fall off.

pchan33 - Thanks for this info. I have a friend whos willing to give this a shot. She talked with her mother and explained it to her. Appearantly her mother knew of milk of magnesia for this use. I do have a question though - how is this to be used? Do you apply it generously to the skin? Do you let it dry on and wash off?Do you rub it completely in? Do you use it like you would soap or face wash? How did you use it, apply it?

If I have a particularly gruesome zit, then I apply the milk on magnesia to the zit and surrounding area and leave it overnight. By morning there is usually nothing to rinse away, but if there is, simply wash with water and your regular face soap. I use noxema. My sister covers her whole face with milk of magnesia, leaves it overnight, and rinses in the morning. I usually leave milk of magnesia on for an hour unless if my skin is really broken out. It's up to you how long to leave it on. It doesn't hurt and it won't make your skin red afterwards either.

drinking lots and lots of water has helped me...
and going to my allergy clinic, they gave me some pills which helped me lose weight and clear my skin...it was perfect, but now i don't go anymore...particularly for me, i had to go because i have a lot of allergies (food, skin, cats, dust, etc)...so, yeah.

has anyone tried the lotion "CUREL" (not sure if it's two L's at the end) it's cheap, and one of the best body lotions i've ever used..i got mine from Costco.

If anyone is interested? There is a home remedy for oily/acne skin.

Yellow cornmeal and salt. You make a paste and apply to your face. Sleep on it and wash the application off. You will see a difference overnight. What it does is the salt pulls the impurities out of the skin, and the cornmeal soaks it up. All natural.

I have tried the milk of magnesia. It definately helps. I get those little annoying ones underneath my lower lip during cycle time. Ive got one by my nose too. It has definately stopped the one and now the one by my nose seems to be drying right up. I have used it about 3 times now.

I am doing more research http://www.cosmeticscop.com/learn/dictionary.asp?TYPE=SEARCH&ID=M

I think as a topical it might be okay, actually, but sparingly... as it has antibacterial properties, but it is an irritant.

If you read more about this Paula's Choice ( it kept coming up as I was searching, so it has a lot of indormation) she delves into what I was saying about acids and pH.

Consider it.
