I have Allergies! Though my allergist concluded through the pathetic and limited allergy test he administered on me that I am not allergic to anything. Well to any of the 50 samples he tested on me. Not only that but he withdrew a ridiculous number of test tubes of blood (I don't want to exaggerate but I think it was 11-15 test tubes of blood. And never called me back about the blood test results!). He told me that there's nothing I can do about it except to take and depend on anti-histamines for the rest of my life, or until the problem just disappears. So, of course, I got the opinion of a second doctor. And guess what he said. The same thing! (no suprise really).

I never had any allergies, until only a few years ago. Now my immune system is so sensitive, it reacts to most anything...like the Cold! I have Cold Urticaria, or Hives, on my feet if Im not careful and don't keep my feet warm during the winter! Sometimes I get them from friction or pressure, like on my hip bone from the waist of my pants, or on my elbows if I apply them on top of a table for too long. And sometimes I dont know how hives appear like when they just magically sneak up on me overnight. One morning, for instance, I woke up with a fat lip. And I'm pretty sure no one, nor I punched my lip while I was asleep.

In addition, I get some awful sinus pain when the weather changes...which is a very common occurrence in the part of Canadian I live in...Southern Ontario! Sinus and head pain, post nasal drip, and plus my ears are so plugged I have to ask people to repeat themselves sometimes.

I've made some changes to my lifestyle. I try to eat only natural foods. And recently Ive changed my laundry detergent to the fragrance, and dye free variety. For soap, it's usually dove. The furnace filter has been replaced. Still can't pinpoint what the triggers may be. Maybe it's just my own body reacting to itself, though I dont think thats the underlying case.

I really dont want to have to be dependent on synthetic drugs, and anti-histamine pills for the rest of my life.

Does anyone have experience with this and know of any alternatives that work for them??

Do you eat dairy food?
Perhaps cut down on milk. I'm a huge sinus sufferer, and when I stopped dairy I almost have no problem at all.

Allergies are not nice. Just try to avoid all toxins, keep linen and surfaces clean from dust & mites, (it's not the mites, it's their poop that is the allergen). Eat less acidic foods, eat more GREENS. Even try a juice fast, but without citrus. You're body may just be crying out for a good detox.

Stay away from drugs, all these things will only add to the toxic build up, and it will only make it worse in the long-term. You can't heal yourself with something synthetic it has to be natural.

My only recommendation is a very good, simple detox. Avoiding all pills, potions and unnatural remedies.
Eat like a rabbit, all things green. Drink juice and avoid white bread, refined sugars, white flour and dairy food.
Please try it, for as long as you can.

Hi SunChild,

Ummm I sorta have an off again/on again relationship with dairy...mainly because Im concerned with the amount of calcium Im getting. And I have found that it does exacerbate my sinus problems.

What exactly are acidic foods? I'm guessing citrus is included in that category,... and probably coffee and tea as well.

Funny thing is I tried a one week detox for my kidneys, liver and digestive tract during the Christmas holidays. But then I slowly reverted back to my old ways. Im not big on bleached bread or flour, I only eat whole wheat (which I think I shouldnt be eating either). But sugar is the sneaky one! And coincidentally, the day after I pigged out on some yummy and greasy Chinese food and some very rich Cake during a bday party I woke up with a sore throat and stuffed up sinuses. I haven't been able to speak for almost a week!

What types of detox do you recommend?

Hey Day Dreamer! There are actually a lot of myths about Calcium and milk. You're safest bet is to get it from plant sources, such as almonds, tahini (sesame seeds) and brocoli... (there are more)the thing is, the high protein content in milk is known to inhibit calcium absorbtion. I only know about this in a nutshell, and there's also some info about it in this thread: http://www.linda-goodman.com/ubb/Forum3/HTML/001321.html

Here is an alkaline and acid food chart, http://home.bluegrass.net/~jclark/alkaline_foods.htm
Your body loves to be alkaline, you'll seldom get sick.

For a detox, I think you really should eat raw fruits and vegetables, nuts and seeds, water and natural fruit juices and not much else. Just try your best, and keep it going as long as you can, if you do take a break, have steamed veggies, brown rice, and balanced foods, not too yin and not too yang. You know what I mean?
If you want to seriously detox, I say research as much as you can and find out what to expect and ideas on what to eat. Everyone is different. But you must really keep it simple, natural, and clean.
You know when your 'detoxing' when you get a runny nose, pimples, sore throat, and other flu like symptoms. That would be why after a week of your detox you felt that way. Then you stifled yourself with chinease food and cake! You stopped the healing process.

Sorry I made a mistake & I just want to add that citrus fruits ARE alkaline forming. I got confused because in a detox I recently did, you weren't meant to eat citrus fruits (for some other reason.)

Thanks SunChild for all the information. I'm going to make notes, and try this all out.

I need to find a detox that will unplug my sinuses, and give me more energy. I'm also anemic, so I need to make sure Im getting enough of the important vitamins (Vit Bs) and minerals(enough Iron).

Actually I think my body is in detox mode right now. There were a few bumps in the road, like with the Cake and Greasy Chinese food, and a few other craving episodes too. Where do you get good and easy recipes for vegetarian meals that actually taste good?

Hey daydreamer.

Since you seem to react to so many things very heavily, can there be a possibility that you have candida?

Anita41, I also went on a Candida Detox before I went on the Liver/Kidney/Intestine Detox. I was on it for about 2 weeks though. And let me say that despite the restrictions on my diet, and the weakness I felt at the beginning I felt energized by the second week.

My problem really though is being consistent with my diet and health. My body can't seem to handle some foods most people can. And my body always has to have a big reaction in one way or another.

SunChild,
Im slowly cutting down on the meat in my diet. Thanks for the website...There's a ton of recipes!!

Devilfish,
I also heard that beef worsen psoriasis and eczema as well. I barely eat beef. I mostly eat fish or chicken when I do eat meat. Im surprised most soaps are still made from animal fats! I wasn't aware of that.

I sometimes have that same problem, and so have tried tons of stuff for it. One thing that works for sure is ALOE VERA JUICE. I know that Herbalife in Italy makes it, but I don't know if the one here does. Still, it's bound to be around somewhere. Just a teeny tiny capful a day keeps the achoos away! Another thing that someone else swears by is oil of Oregano. He said it totally stopped all of his respiratory problems. I tried that, but didn't get to see the results because I hated the taste so much that I couldn't go through with it (trust me, not at all like pizza) - and NOTHING disguises that taste. I'd stick with the Aloe! There's something I found online called "Breathe Easy" that claims to work, but I haven't tried that yet, so who knows? If you're high tech, you might want to try this http://www.eplanetshopping.com/TechAllergy/
but the best one of all if used daily is the Neti pot. It's something they use in India, but a company here started making a solution to use with it. I personally use this, especially when I need to perform (I'm a singer) and need my system clear (when I have colds or allergies I tend to gag while singing, I guess the thought of the mucus just disgusts me too much). You can find one kind here: http://www.sinucleanse.com/netipotlanding.htm It's especially good for pregnant women, 'coz it's safe to use.

I was looking for a netipot about three months ago and couldn't find one locally at any of the major stores. I found this though: http://www.neilmed.com/
I am using it instead of prescription Flonase, and this works MUCH MUCH better than Flonase ever did! And it's sold at Walgreens.. and where isn't there a Walgreens in America?

Thanks, for the tips. Ive tried Aloe juice...but not for long. Maybe I'll give it another try. My allergies and sinus problems have especially been bad lately. Im having to resort to anti-histamines.
