A friend and myself have joined a gym called Curves....has anyone heard of it.You work out for just half an hour and spend 30 seconds on each machine. In between them you jog on the spot, or skip or dance. There is music playing and instructions when to change to the next machine. I didnt realise how UNFIT I was until I had completed the circuit. When the woman who worked there asked me what was my motivation to join, I said weight loss, health and stamina....and then went on to explain I am married to a younger man !!! Hehe..... Its great craic...do you have them in the States? xxx IP: Logged |

Hi Sue,We have them on practically every corner here in Michigan! They are a great way to get in shape, but do not go more than three times a week or it will actually do more harm than good to your weight loss progress. You can help your cardio work out by just walking on the in between days. Good Luck!!! ------------------ In the search for me, I discovered truth. In the search for truth, I discovered Love. In the search for Love, I discovered Spirit. And in Spirit, I have found everything! IP: Logged |

They're in Canada too! I joined but found it too 'clique-y' for my tastes. I work out at home and at a community centre. They are a good idea, especially joining with your friends.Have fun!!!!! IP: Logged |

Hi Sue,Found your post in OOber...you are gonna love it when you realize what I meant about the cats!hehe Did you order the second book? My favorite one is the third...just my type of fantasy fiction. Anyway, I used to work for LA Weightloss, (several years ago) and many of the women belonged to CURVES. The women who would work out there more than 3 times a week stopped losing weight and even inches...they just stayed the same... and one of the women came to me one day and found out that in the CURVES manual it actually says that going more than 3 times a week does not increase weightloss benefits! But they dont tell you that, this woman had to dig for information to find out. So like I said...you could do circuit training three days a week and some type of cardio in between....just walking helps a lot! Hope this info helps! Love & Light! IP: Logged |

Lately, not as mucxh as I did, it goes through cycles. My yoga class has ended, and I signed up for Pilates ( which I do at home) but the day of the class, they cancelled the whole thing, as the teacher had backed out and was unavailable. That sucks.I set up my mat in the living room, and do floor excercises with bands and ball weights, and then I will do some light weight lifting. I also incorporate Yoga excercises. Usually a few times a week, and then I am on my feet all night at work. But like I said, it is cyclical.. if I am busy or someting else is going on, I skip it and forgive myself. Of course, I am feling pudgy after the winter ( I always feel that way this time of year, no matter what) but I am still technically 'in shape'.. ie; not overweight. I also try to walk as much as possible, rather than get a drive... this is easier to do in the spring summer sutumn.... so winter really sucks the life out of me. I love Canada, but I think, for my condition and my whole sense of self, somewhere warmer in climate would be better. IP: Logged |

Hi girls!! We also have Curves here in Alaska. Although i gotta say, i hadnt realised Curves was a worldwide franchise until now. I checked into Curves last year when i was looking at joining a club. To me their prices were to much for what i wanted and needed. I found the same workout program (almost to a "T") for a cheaper more affordable price - the only difference is men also workout there. In which case, im better off in a room full of guys than gals anyways. lol. less drama. lol I run on a cardio machine, usually the eliptical, for about 10-15 minutes to get my heart rate up - then hit the express way circuit - which takes anywhere from 25-40 minutes depending on speed. Then i run run run run run for as long as i can - to burn all them calories - lol, for about 15-30 minutes depending on the exhaustion factor. In all i attended the gym 3-4 times a week. The 4th day being a cardio only day - like running for 30-40 minutes. All other days are cardio and circuit. In the club i attend they suggest not switching up the machines in the circuit, but the rebel i am, i often switch my routines and go thru the circuit backwards or something. In which i notice the difference on my body - for the better. I think my muscles get used to the routine and it doesnt seem as effective. Muscles do have memory right? To me, it really seems to help when i attend the gym with someone - in my case, my sister and i team up. Which is cool, cause we have never had much of a relationship - shes nine years old. So this time gives us a chance to rekindle what used to be and get to know one another again. My boyfriend has even noticed a diffrenece between my sister and i now. Somedays i find that when i go in i dont want to be there, im exhausted and dont feel i have the energy to complete the workout, but once i start going i get in the groove and by the time im done i have more energy than when i started. In the 3-4 months i have been going, i've managed to drop 25+ pounds. I was at an alltime high for me of 160+. I am about 5'9" and have always been thin, 120-125. (which now, i believe is too thin, 130/135 is my ideal) This winter was havoc on my body. I mean i really packed on the pounds. But now i can say my body is toned again ... i just need to get rid of the extra fat layer that seems to surround my body and follow me everywhere. ang- IP: Logged |

Sue, yes, I think that's a great idea. I would love a thread like that. I am a freshman in college and managed to pack on the infamous '15' this year I have battled with my weight my whole life. I am trying to both accept the fact that I will never be "skinny-skinny" but also keep working on staying fit. IP: Logged |

I have always struggled with my weight too.....so its good to have others to share this with.Am hoping to get away with still eating fairly well and burning it off with exercise......!!!! I am surprising myself that the gym is so enjoyable and the circuit only lasts for 24 minutes and the other 10 minutes is spent stretching...... Gonna keep on keeping on !!!!!! hahaha !!! Hi Sue, that sounds a lot of fun. I've not heard of Curves before - nothing like that over here in quaint old Yorkshire A thread on getting fit and losing weight would definitely interest me as I'm currently doing my utmost to lose weight. I don't go to a gym but I do exercise at home on the bike (30 minutes a day on the steep hill setting!) and go for brisk walks in the countryside. Good on you for taking such positive steps towards a new fitter you! You will soon see the results, I'm sure. Touch IP: Logged |

THEY ARE EVERYWHERE!!! The woman that started them wrote a fantastic book, and since women read more than men, well it took off, the only thing is, Like Cinleannana said "they are practically on every corner" and they disappear just as fast. sometimes as fast As they go up, they close down, I saw them in Montana..two in Missoula, many here in Utah and IL, but months later they close down, because of lack of motivation, and since its a membership thing and money is a issue, if the Trainers can't motivate the women to come, well money isnt made.I think its a wonderful Idea, but with the weight losing craze in the States, you never know what is good or not. The weight watchers campaigns, with different bodies to attact more Robust or as they are called nowadays BBW (BIG BEAUTIFUL WOMAN)seems to be about money and not really helping woman become more healthy, I think one of Cher's songs was used to grab larger woman to drink a diet drink, of course its not just the diet drink but also exercise that is a factor. I dont know why they would think a song would be a factor in making someone want to lose weight...thats got to be american right, does the rest of the world do the same thing? Right here in Utah, Golds Gym has seemed to dominate the exercise world, everyone going, but mostly a MEAT Market in itself. I think Curves is awesome, but I wonder separating women and men..if this is a good thing in the workout industry? pertaining to working out and not picking up people at the gym, I think having both in the gym at the same time is a major bonus in giving all confidence. Before CURVES there was WOMAN WORKOUT WORLD and it flopped, I hope CURVES adjust better and stays open. IP: Logged |

Umm, I dont know if this would work on all you lovelies like it does on guys but some abdomenal exercises and leg presses with weights [heavier weights and very short extension distances] adds rapid muscle when done weekly or bi monthly. Extra muscle burns of fat even when you rest. The fat beneath girl skin will prevent any masculine cuts from showing and hence the glamour conscious have nothing to worry. The best way to lose fat? I found this in a healing book: Fat: An insulation against the world that our minds create as a barrier against experiences. The key is to remove the mind pattern of insulation. Affirmations: I release all mind patterns of insulation that prevent me from enjoying happy expereinces. I release all excess body fat by releasing all auric imprints that allowed excess fat to accumulate I am slim and attracive from the inside. I always stay slim and attractive.

IQ I'm intrigued by the idea of fat as a barrier, perhaps a physical manifestation of trying to protect oneself psychologically.I'd also like to point out that across cultures/eras body fat is often seen as attractive. In India today, having body fat is seen as desirable in many areas (can any Indians verify this?) I, personally, find a certain amount of body fat to be attractive, to me it speaks of fertility and strength. This is not to say out of shape blobs, just the appearance of having good nurtition. Thin is healthy, but its good to have some body fat. IP: Logged |

Hi BRoamer, Perhaps the fat would reduce only to the extent that maximum attraction is generated? Some women look very attractive with some extra fat and some look gorgeous when thin. The healing affirmation is for those who are beyond obese and whose fat has started clogging the arteries. This can become a medical condition if unchecked and cause heart disease, which is nothing but heart chakra block. (A person who does not want to be loved starts attracting fat and soon because not love is accepted, no love is given and hence heart chakra blocks) In India, a woman with 30-32 inch waist is considered very attractive but in Europe/Latin America it is more like 22-25 inch waist. Some African countries consider excess fat to be very attractive! There were many correlations in the book, it is named "Healers Handbook" by Stewart Swerdlow. Lower back problems are said to occur when financial troubles are extra, upper back problems when family/friend support is lesser, neck problems occur from inflexibility, leg problems occur when there is fear of moving into the future or fear of change and so on. Shoulders represent burdens. Those who can carry heavy burdens have wide strong shoulders. Those who nurture others have wide chests if male and big breasts if female. It was an interesting essay and I have observed the lowerback-finances correlaion with almost 100% accuracy. Every person who had a lower back pain thought that he had a financial/material trouble or was financially inferior to others.

Is it because lower back and kidneys as well as financial matters are ruled by Venus?

Great Observation Peri!!! I never thought of thinking on those lines. Mind patterns relate to Chakras, Chakras cosntruct the Etheric Body, this governs the phsyical body's reactions to the Brain. Astroloy teaches how planets rule a body part. So every Mind Pattern has a link with a Planet/Sign along with Chakras and hence every occult science can be integrated. Let me write the complete mindpattern-body conection and maybe we can spot all the planetary co-relations. IP: Logged |
