I'm not a raw foodist, but I am a fan of raw vegie juices (wheatgrass and carrot are my favorite

I feel that the Champion juicer I use is the best becasue it uses a low speed to extract the juice - not like those 'blender style' juices that 'cook' the juice becasue they spin so fast.

The only prob is that the Champion Juicer costs quite a bit - $500 in Australia

Hey Nebel - haven't seen you around for a bit

I can't talk - I'm not around all that much myself, but it's still good to see ya.

Re: Juicers: I've been mulling over this one: http://877myjuicer.zoovy.com/product/OMEGA8005

It's low-speed like the Champion
( which I found here: http://877myjuicer.zoovy.com/c=Ddi6t2U81ZCrCSVhoM1MQyjli/product/CHAMPIONCOMMERCIALS for a similar price ).

Hm, in the description for the Champion, they recommend the Lexen Healthy Juicer if one wants to juice wheatgrass...I don't know if I'm ever going to do that, but it may be good to cover all the bases.
(Here's that juicer: http://877myjuicer.zoovy.com/product/LEXENHEALTHYJUICER )

They are all a bit pricey, but I'm willing to shell out up to about US$250 - in a rare move for me, I'll put it on the credit card and pay it off over a couple of months.

Decisions, decisions.

The very same question was buzzing about my head this morning. I found this review page on a raw food site. Wander back and tell me what you decided and if you were happy with it, prox. It will probably be a several months before I buy one myself. I hope to make a fair amount of my own baby food and juice once the bambino arrives and I'm afraid the little juicer I have won't live up to the challenge.

I know someone who has a never used champion juicer - in the box sitting in the pantry closet. Oy. I'm considering sneaking in in the middle of the night and
swiping it. Hey, at least I'd be putting it to good use.

OMgoodnessgracious! TINK! Are you expecting? I didn't know that.. CONGRATULATIONS!! Babies are wooonderful!

okay okay.. I don't wanna hijack the thread or anything I just got so excited..

*biting lip (er.. fingers?) to avoid asking a bunch of pertinent baby questions..*

We have a juicer .. I think it's the Juiceman Jr. or some such thing.. I does a good job. Though I don't know if it would do wheatgrass and I wish it would. That stuff is like coffee as far as the energy boost goes.. only better cause you don't crash later.

If you do get a juicer, a warning-
It is possible to overdo it. The first day some friends and I got a collective juicer for our household, we literally juiced for several hours. We juiced every bit of produce we had in the house and actually got a buzz off it. It was fun until the crash.. It was like a hangover, no joke. I think it must of been the sugar. Although it was easily 50% fruit and 50% veggies that we consumed that day.
It was weird.

Yeah, the bambino is due in October. A Libra, God help me. I've never really done well with Libras. I've been reading all your old baby threads. Salome's too. Forewarned is forearmed!

Good point about the sugar. It's natural sugar but it is still sugar. I water down all my fruit juice, whether it be homemade or from a bottle. I tend toward hypoglycemia and there's tons of diabetes in my family so I need to be extra careful.

I'm also looking for something that will make decent almond milk. I've been hearig good things about it.

Geez, Tink, I know - you completely dodged my question when I asked you about your bambino about a month ago

That's a great idea, re: baby foods.
I tried some of the store bought stuff w/ Meg, but she never was thrilled by it.
(She just wanted to suck my double-Ds dry and munch on iddy bitty versions of whatever I was eating. Punk.)

Re: Almond Juice/Milk: That first one that I linked to says that it makes soy milk...might work for almonds, too.

I'll look at your link/reviews later on.
Right now I hear Meg harrassing the heck out my Mom (who's trying to work).

Harpyr - YOUR DVD!
Would not burn.
Dern piece of plastic.
I squeezed 8 hours of programming onto that one poor little DVD-RW and now my burning software just gives me a digitized mess when I try to make a copy...
BUT I HAVE A PLAN!
AND IT JUST MIGHT WORK!

But I don't want to go on any more b/c I don't want to get anyone's hopes up.
(Namely, my own...I really want to see if my scheme'll gel.)

It won't have a chance to work til the week after next, though, b/c I'm up in VA right now.

Yeah, I felt a little silly blabbing it out like that on poor Rainbow's thread. Scorpio crime of passion and all that. Sorry.

Yay, for Tink!
Here's a link for an almond milk recipe. http://www.living-foods.com/recipes/almondmilk.html We have a Vitamix blender that is supposed to be able to do it though we haven't tried it. But it works very well for everything else we've tried.

proxieme,
We own a Juiceman Jr and it has worked very well for us. We might eventually upgrade to a larger capacity juicer but it's good for now.

Oh, BTW, we make all our own baby food and the Vitamix has proved to be very efficient, fast, and easy to clean. I haven't made homemade juice for Mathias yet because I remember reading something somewhere about the "dangers" of it and haven't looked it up since. We're currently giving him Walnut Acres organic juices ... has anyone here given their baby homemade "raw" juice or know anything about it?

Now you've got me curious about the Champion juicer ...

I trie a juice fast a few years ago; It was sposta cure all my ails. It didn't work. When I got off I had a much harder time with digestion. As a suppliment-yeah it's a good idea. I know where to buy bulk herbs, that are organically grown, at really good prices. If you buy a ready made wheatgrass powder you can read the lable and get the list of veggies; then, you order them in bulk to mix together & make it with your favorite juice. Champion was the juicer I used. Go to pacificbotanicals.com for the herbs. They even sell Spirulina. I also make teas & tinctures.
