I remember seeing some videos in a book club catalog. www.onespirit.com I thought about that too. It would be fun. IP: Logged |

I went to a class for a while! I love this form of dancing, but I quit the class because I wasn't happy with the way it was taught or the whole approach in general - superficially taught, tacky in approach... blah. :P I'd love to take it up again with a different style of teaching. IP: Logged |

Neena and Veena Bellydancing - great tapes!!! go to Natural journeys website. I think it's www.naturaljourneys.com Start with the set that has the basic moves, then move up to the DVDs that have the dance moves. Also the Tahitian girl DVD is good. Great tapes at this site.

You may already be aware of this, but belly dancing was originally designed for women, by women, to encourage each woman to be proud of her body and embrace her femininity. Modern day belly dancing however has been designed to meet the needs of the audience (i.e. men). Most of the classes I looked into in my area fall into the latter category If you can, try to find a group of women who can teach you the original method Good luck Nebel IP: Logged |

Yeah, I noticed that too. Most of the beginner DVD's, had the instructor wearing far-out cheesy outfits Think, I Dream of Genie ?!? I found a cool one featuring dancing and yoga, with a tribal emphasis. The reviews on amazon were fly, so I'm going to try it out. I would love to attend an actual live class, but don't have the time right now.IP: Logged |

Rania's workouts are good too. I have a tape of hers called "Bellydance Fitness for Weight Loss featuring Rania: Hip Hop Hip Drop, and Pure Sweat" - the first one has some good bellydance routines (I'd suggest this one), while the latter is more salsa moves. You can find these at Amazon.com. I've also heard Neena & Veena are good. Do let us know what you try. Sunshine IP: Logged |

I bought a bellydancing dvd called "Belly Dancing the Sacred Shapes." Real women with real bodies. It's the only one I've seen, so I can't compare it to anything else, but I've been happy with it. You can get more info here: www.thegoddessdancing.com I really like it for what it is. IP: Logged |
