I'm just curious if anyone else here is trying to quit smoking and to find any helpful suggestions or tips on getting through the first week.
This is proving to be quite the challenge. I know all about the breathing techniques and am using one of the stop smoking kits, but that hand-to-mouth habit is getting to me.
I try to stay busy doing something, but one can't be doing something all the time and it's that down time or times of boredom when everything else is done that seem to be the most difficult to get through.

You can do it! It is just the most addicting habit ever known! I am sending you some light and love on this one! Keep those urges busy by exercise, whatever works-I gave up a 3 pk a day by watching myself in thye mirror and seeing myself get uglier as i inhaled and all-then i supplemented with Swisher Sweet little cigars when out drinking and shooting pool as those times were hardest for me-

Sorry I didn't get back here sooner. Thanks for the support and encouragement. Though I am still struggling with this stupid addiction.
It seems strange that just yesterday I celebrated 18 months sobriety, but I can't leave cigarettes alone for one day.

It's good to see there are still some nice people here at LL. I noticed that "so friggin' dumb" thread is back in the top ten. Why??? So we can let one person succeed at getting the rest of us to fight and insult one another? Steer clear of that bad energy!!

Yeah, I'm sorry I ever got involved in that ~ I hardly ever get into that type of thing, because I don't want to give "trolls" the satisfaction by feeding the energy. I purposely avoided comments by one person in that thread for ages, after having seen her antagonistic behaviour all over the place. I scrolled back to read, however, after seeing someone's comment about something that had been said. It just got to me that night.

Anyway, good luck quitting smoking, and congratulations on your eighteen months of sobriety.

Hey spry

Chewing gum.
The sugar (or aspartame) is a little bit less harmful than the tobacco and 100+ chemicals that go with it.....

Do things. Wash windows. Cook. Anything that keeps your hands busy. Every time you feel like grabbing a cig, get a bottle of water and put that in your mouth instead. It took me two years to quit smoking after I quit drinking -- the patch was the only thing that helped, along with the gum.....

Good luck, sweetie!!

(((((((((ZALA))))))))))) Long time no see! Thanks for the tips. I do chew on sugar-free gum, keep toothpicks handy and try to stretch, and walk. My co-worker used the patch and he's now 50 days without smoking.
I guess when the time is right, that's when I'll quit. I just have to remember to quit beating myself up for caving in and lighting up.
