Hi everyone,i have become convinced that i am a mosquito magnet (and a guy repellent too, but tht's irrelevant here) i am the only one who gets bitten when we go outdoors...none of my friends has this problem. to make things worse, i seem to have developed an allergy to mosquito bites....the whole area swells up (upto 1.5 inches in diameter) and becomes red and itchy. i must add that i live in Florida, where mosquitos abound. i dont want to use mosquito repellents as they seem to contain strong chemicals. does anyone know of a natural remedy? also, can dietary changes decrease the attraction factor? ILWL-There are many things you can apply to your skin to dissuade mosquitos! I personally wipe white distilled vinegar on my skin with a cotton ball, and they don't bother me for a good 8 hours! My bf and my best friend were skeptical the past few years, but joined the bandwagon last summer and are believers now! A few recipes: 1 once oil of citronella 1 drop corn oil -Mix these two and apply to skin! 4 parts glycerin (ex. 4 teaspons) 1 part eucalyptus oil (ex. 1 teaspon) -Mix together WELL and use sparingly. Another great tip is carrying a sheet of Bounce fabric softner with you... supposively this repels the bloodsuckers! Also, using peppermint, bay cloves, cedar (which I use in my Scottie's dog bed to repel fleas), and parsley on your skin will protect you against mosquitoes. Also, a good amount of garlic in your system (and I've read somewhere that ginger does it too!) will make your blood undesirable to the boogers! Good luck! ------------------ Scorpio/Leo/Leo "When you realize how perfect everything is you will tilt your head back and laugh at the sky" Buddha After all, when someone at a party asks you what sign you are, and you look at them (penetratingly) and reply, "Scorpio", and they give a little gasp and back away, or instantly inquire what you're doing later, well, it can get a little...tiresome. -Liz Greene IP: Logged |

OMG...this sounds amazing ! r u telling me tht a wipe of vinegar can keep the buggers away?!! is it that simple ????thaanks sooo much....and i definitely like the idea of garlic and ginger.....tht's like a permanent fix (they bite me anytime any place!! if a mosquito somehow finds it way into my house it is sure to find me and bite me in at least 3 different spots before i manage to kill it)....so the garlic seems pretty appealing to me. thanks a bunch! ILWL p.s. i looooved your signature...both of em' IP: Logged |

Hey there ILWL... Another great that has been proven to work awsome... "Burt's Bee's Lemongrass Insect Lotion"... my Son is also a menu favorite for those little blood-thirsty's... and just about any other of the flying ee-b-g-bee's that one could encounter:P I love it and so does he. It is actually safe enough to eat,...hence making it also a comfort for any of the family pets. It is a spray on but, is definitly a lotion...however, it is one that truely leaves the skin so very soft, and no oily, greasy or heavy feeling to it at all. It's one of those things that, a little goes a loooong way, so though the bottle may appear small it does last! It's been my experience that lemongrass is actually the better repellent, over the citronella too. ~ geminstone IP: Logged |
