I find myself always thirsty, last night I easily drank 3 Litres of water (12 glasses), and went to the toilet a lot during the night, today I've had about the same and seem to be urinating it all out without absorbing any of it...I just can't quench my thirst.
This has been happening on and off for a few weeks. If I eat a lot of water rich foods like I usually do I find I need less water, if I eat nuts, or dry food I find that my thirst gets so painful that it makes me feel shakey.

It feels like it has gotten worse this afternoon, however, I tried some powerade because it has electrolytes & sodium in it which seemed to help a bit.

I feel this maybe happening as a detox symptom, but I am unsure. Could there be something in my body that is trying to get flushed out?

This type of thirst is so annoying, it wakes me up at night.
I even had a dream a few weeks ago that an old man told me that I'm severely dehydrated. That was so wierd...probably because I was dreaming while I was thirsty.

Another thing that the symbol of water has been appearing in my life a lot. My latest Angel Card reading was about water!
What is it about water?

Hello darling, I'm not entirely sure - but you are building a little you that's made of about 85% water I think that's the percentage..? That will more than likely have something to do with it. Maybe the other mummies will know

i had unquenchable thirst related to a sugar imbalance and kidney function reaction-DON'T WORRY! However as an old-bossy-nose I say, be careful of swelling ankles and legs and avoid salty stuff for sure-Love, Tux

SunChild--this kind of thirst and need to urinate frequently can be an indicator of diabetes. Especially since you are expecting a baby, I would urge you to seek a professional opinion if the symptoms continue. And if you have been experiencing this for a while, now might be the time to see someone who can help.

I am not trying to diagnose you, but I am a little concerned.

Not the momma here, but my first thought was diabetes, too. Don't panic, just get checked out by your doctor.

I could not get enough to drink when I was Pregnate. But of course talk to your dr. Your body needs LOTS of water to create the fluid sac and baby. A womans blood volume is close to double during pregnancy.

Extreme thirst may also indicate anemia. Have your blood iron checked.

However, that you're urinating a lot at night sounds more like diabetes insipidus:

Diabetes Insipidus

I know these people who are telling you not to worry mean well but, nonetheless definitely go see your doctor.

Thanks for bringing those concerns to my mind, I never really thought of the possibilty of diabetes. I will get it checked with my doctor very soon. I had a blood test recently and I have no anemia. I hope it's just a pregnancy thing...

Thanks everyone

The last thing a first time mother needs is to get freaked out on the internet.

Anyone can look up symptoms on the internet and think they have brain cancer.

(i want to make it clear I am NOT in anyway dismissing the opinions of anyone here- I am just saying...)

My first "uh-oh" moment when I figured I might be pregnant was when I constantly had to get up in the night to urinate. I also had an unquenchable thirst. According to a doctor, during the first trimester, the increasing size of the uterus and its positioning at that time puts pressure on the bladder. Also, the blood volume nearly doubles, necessitating the increased thirst.

But, I am no expert. I am just dealing with my best friend's pregnancy, and have found myself very annoyed with the people around her constantly freaking her out about nothing.

by all means, please see a doctor. With as healthy as you live and eat, Sunchild- I would be greatly shocked if this early you would have gestational diabetes.

Please keep us informed dear- and talk to a physician.

MK

SunChild MK is right--you do not need to be alarmed by posts on a website, no matter how well-intentioned. I apologize if my post scared you in any way. I'm afraid I don't know much about having babies, since it's something I've chosen not to do in this lifetime. And the singularity of your symptoms could indicate more than one thing. I too would be surprised, given your healthy lifestyle, if you had diabetes, but I still think it is worth checking, just to eliminate it as a possibility.

Again, please accept my apologies. I assure you I only had your best interests at heart.

No need to apologize trillian Thanks for bringing it to my mind so I can at least check it out, I didn't freak or anything..I haven't seen a doctor yet, but will next week. I'm feeling better but will still get a blood test. My mum said the same thing actually...she's worried but mothers always are. Will let you know how it goes.

How are you anyway? Lots of Love to you.

Thanks Bluemoon.

I didn't see this earlier...I wish I had...

As a fellow gestating chick, I have to say, drink up!
I was constantly thirsty too, and I still am. That's good!

Yes, It could be a sign of gestational diabetes, but that usually doesn't develop until later in pregnancy. The Doctor/Midwife knows what to screen for. And it will certainly come with other telltale symptoms.

I'll tell you what thirst IS a sign of though.. for whatever reason....
pregnancy.

and you happen to be pregnant, so all systems go.
Don't worry, just keep listening to your body.

I had tests done for nearly everything and no sign of diabetes....I was worrying too much. My thirst is back to normal most days so I'm no longer concerned. All is good.
