i am awash and faltering with the most prolific flu....

really, there are very few times that i have felt so utterly depleted and bad, as i do with this flu. moving about at all is an accomplishment. though i know i should be still and resting, i still have obligations to which to attend....

so i made a supreme effort to get myself to the nearest natural market and stock up on some remedies...lemons and honey for sore throat....zinc lozenges...echinacea syrup...homeopathy tablets...

but the most amazing thing that i found is called Emergen-C, a fizzy drink mix made with water, that has 1000 mg vitamin C per packet.

the best thing ever! i literally am drenching myself in vitamin C. and i can feel it -- really -- re-inforcing and restoring my immune system and health. the fizzy drink gives such relief to my aching throat and dehydrated body. my digestive system is very delicate, so i would be unable to take regular vitamin capsules, but drinking this throughout the day keeps my body flush with the liquids, electrolytes and vitamins i need.

Super Orange Emergen-C fizzes in water to furnish 1,000 mg of Vitamin C with 32 different mineral complexes plus B Vitamins. Sweetened with Fructose for Quick Energy with Staying Power.

Emergen-C

i'm so pleased to have found this. they also offer vitamin drink mixes for immune system, heart health and multi-vitamin. i think our bodies absorb vitamins much more readily this way, rather than trying digest a pill or capsule. digestion begins in the mouth, with the taste buds and saliva...swallowing pills skips all this.

they also have a variety of flavors...super orange, cranberry, raspberry, tropical, lemon-lime, tangerine and lite.

mmm...yummy and soothing, to my throat and delicate tummy.

a very good thing.

I love love love the Emergen-C! I use it whenever I get the slightest hint of an illness coming on. I also keep a stock of sodium acsorbate for when the illness gets really bad. I've found that it's even better at saturating your body with vitamin C. Something about the sodium makes it easier for your body to absorb.
A company called Now is the brand that I have but I think there's several different ones to choose from. It's good stuff!

Big big fan of emergen-c

Harpyr - I bought a big jug of sodium ascorbate recently. Certain posts on Mothering Magazine's website convinced me to look into it. Love it!

Take care of yourself naiad How's the babe?

i haven't heard of sodium ascorbate....thanks! i will find some soon. my flu is subsiding a bit, i amost feel alive again.... ....but when my energy starts to falter, if i drink an emergen-c mix i can feel it almost immediately. i think the b vitamins give a big boost also.

feeling that ill is a chance to re-evaluate how we take care ourselves. my fever produced some interesting perspectives. it made my body stop and take some deep rest time....a chance for my thoughts to go way inward, as there wasn't much else to do. of course my little (getting bigger now) babe kept me well ensconced in the material world. he was a little flusih as well, but not as seriously as i. thank you for asking Tink.

but i have an idea for a business as a result of this. i was thinking about doulas who help pregnant and new mamas. and as we have had this fluishness in varying intensity for a few weeks now, it occurred to me that a professional along the lines of a doula would be a great resource, but for those suffering from short term physical ailments. like a professional caretaker. someone who could come into your home and take over the daily necessities when someone is physically afflicted. like preparing meals...walking pets...doing dishes....laundry....paying bills...etc. whatever needs doing, that gets neglected, when someone is laid low with an ailment.

like a cleaning company, or childcare company...a professional caretaker company could provide reliable people with guaranteed credentials. of course you'd want to know that you could trust someone to enter your home and become involved in the intimate arena of your personal life...

most people don't have the resources for full-time help...but wouldn't it be cool if someone like this were available for the times when we really need it?

just some thoughts, arising from the discomforture of a feverish mind....

love 'n everything
