greetings health gurus ~

i find that very soon i will have to apply for medicaid, or be without health insurance. i am so unfamiliar with this territory, and it would of great benefit to have the valuable insight on this topic of other people here.

i tend to love the health and healing foum for its straightforward discussion of issues such as the medical theocracy and the truth behind real healing.

i'd like to find more info and understanding of these issues -- medicaid, health insurance, major medical -- if anyone here has any thoughts, ideas, or experiences to share.

thanks!

I used to work in the health care industry and I did medical billing for the dr.s office i worked in. Anyway.. medicaid is a goverment burocracy, they move slow and if you have issues you will probably have to call 3-4 times to get it straightened out. I say that only so you will know what to expect. Maybe its better now. Any dr. office billing person should know how to bill them properly for services. The billing person at any dr. office is someone you might want to have a good relationship with.
Really its just like any other insurance carrier. Some of the procedure codes may be different too but again that is up to the billing person to know about.
My other question is for covered services does medicaid pay 100%. If not how does the balance get paid? Just some of the finacial tidbits that you might ask about now so it doesn't come up later and be a problem for you.

My grandmother who was in the nursing home used medicaid because she owned no home and really did not have other assets. There were no problems that we were ever aware of with the agency. Maybe that means they are efficent these days.

Ok, great.
She did have medicare but when she went to live at the nursing home it was converted over to medicaid. There was an application process to do so but it my couzen who did that paperwork. Once her medicaid was accepted my mother never again saw any paperwork or medical bills. She had hip surgery during her time there and medicaid must have paid for it.

Medicaid is better than no health insurance.
