Anyone here use Flax oil, seed etcetera? I am intrigued by the benefits being touted for Flax. Anyone here have any good information on it? I Googled and it sounds too good to be true. Is it that good?------------------ ~Judgement Must Be Balanced With Compassion~ ~Do Not Seek Wealth From The Suffering, Or The Dire Needs Of Others~ ~Assumption Is The Bane Of Understanding~ ~ if you keep doing what you did, you'll keep getting what you got.~ }><}}}(*> <*){{{><{ ~~~ ~~ ~~~~ ~~~ ~~ ~~~~~ ~~~ ~~~~ ~~~ IP: Logged |

I've read that its good for skin and hair, is it high in omega 3s? I recall it is.If so it's good for your cardiovascular as well as neurological health, omega 3s are really important in forming myelin, which insulates your neurons. Hopefully someone will have more answers, and I don't want no flax! (pun intended) My belief is that it may not yet be proven to help you, but its not gonna hurt you. If you have fish in your diet you may already be getting enough omega 3s.

I tried to use flax oil, but taste was awful to me. So now I use only flaxseeds. Mix them to yoghurt or salad. I've heard that oil od Camelina sativa, usually known in English as gold-of-pleasure or false flax is almost as good and tastes well too. Haven't tried it yet. I love salads, so good oil is a must in kitchen. Anyway, tell us how your flax testing goes. ------------------ No hesitation. No regret. No looking back. IP: Logged |

I love flaxseeds!I have a 1/4-cup portion of flaxseeds every day. I keep them bagged in the refrigerator so they stay fresh, and I use a coffee grinder for my daily amount. The grinder is only used for flax, so I don't need to worry about washing the flax dust out. I grind them because the hulls can't be digested, so if they aren't broken open you don't get the full benefits. I mix mine in a glass of orange juice or eat it plain. I actually like the nutty taste. I have a friend who has used flaxseeds daily for years for anxiety and depression. He said it took him about 3 months to start seeing a drastic improvement. He was able to stop taking his medications for anxiety, depression, and insomnia, and he attributes that to the flax. It's the only change he made to his diet. He also lowered his cholesterol to normal levels. What it does, how to use it, a recipes link, etc.: http://www.whfoods.com/genpage.php?tname=foodspice&dbid=81 My local health store guru told me to start with a tablespoon and gradually increase the amount because of the high fiber content. I've tried a few different brands of oils, and the taste ranges. IP: Logged |

Thanks everyone! I do get plenty of fish but I am concerned about the high mercury levels so wanted an alternative. BR, Yeah I heard about it helping with MS and other MS related syndromes and neurological damage. I hope it will help me. I want to try some Flax sprouts too! I hope it is not expensive. That has kept me from some of the alternatives. The flax seeds in the flax bread I just had were utterly delicious!!!!!! Far tastier than Sunflower seeds! Its supposed to help with IBS too! I sure hope so! Thanks again everyone! ------------------ ~Judgement Must Be Balanced With Compassion~ ~Do Not Seek Wealth From The Suffering, Or The Dire Needs Of Others~ ~Assumption Is The Bane Of Understanding~ ~ if you keep doing what you did, you'll keep getting what you got.~ }><}}}(*> <*){{{><{ ~~~ ~~ ~~~~ ~~~ ~~ ~~~~~ ~~~ ~~~~ ~~~ IP: Logged |

I shall certainly look into that! Thank you! Neferemi Thanks for the link! The info and the advice! I feel I will find it all very useful! InLoveWithLife We can both be flax testers! BlueRoamer Well as you saw my hair is A-OK. The only thing on me that is! Fayte I'm glad you are looking into Flax. Additionally, your mention of mercury in fish indicates that you are a health conscious individual, something I have great respect for. You do have beautiful hair, thus it is probably that you are getting proper nutrition. This is especially important for multiple schlerosis, when one has a chronic illness proper diet becomes essential.Did you know my roommate has multiple schlerosis? I have learned much about the disease and its symptoms. I have also aided her in improving her diet and exercise, in hopes that it might help her symptoms. Although some people resist, I usually try to give people tips on diet and exercise, as some people simply haven't been educated in these areas. It is my belief that witholding knowledge is just as damaging as giving false knowledge. It seems that health and diet awareness is increasing in our society, but also that the obesity and diabetes epidemic is still just as much of an issue. The availability of simple carbohydrates in our diets has proven to be disastrous to overall health in the United States, but it is my contention this epidemic can be fought with education. It is my hope that we will begin to see anti sugar and anti fat advertisements, which will follow suit of the anti-smoking campaign. It is only a matter of time before people realize that our diets are just as dangerous to us as our alcohol and tobacco habits. IP: Logged |

BlueRoamer Yes you told me about your roommate. I posted on your MS walk thread. My sister and paternal Aunt have MS and a friend. Except for the brain lesions I exhibit the same symptoms, but mine may be the result of exposure to industrial toxins and severe injury and scarring and multiple points of damage to bones, tendons, muscles, and nerves, along with hereditary factors. Any information that can help is welcome. Thanks again, Love Fayte PS. Yes I am, very careful about what I eat. I do consume much of the Green vegetables like Broccoli and any greens, raw and steamed with lemon pepper. I rarely eat fried anything. And drink only lowfat milk. I generally avoid white bread and go for whole coarse grains. I love nuts and lentils alot too but they do have too many calories. As for my hair...Thanks for the compliment! I use White Rain or Suave Shampoo and a detangler Like CitriShine "before washing it", and avoid brushing it while wet. And plenty of protien in my diet. Nothing more than that. Thanks again! ------------------ ~Judgement Must Be Balanced With Compassion~ ~Do Not Seek Wealth From The Suffering, Or The Dire Needs Of Others~ ~Assumption Is The Bane Of Understanding~ ~ if you keep doing what you did, you'll keep getting what you got.~ }><}}}(*> <*){{{><{ ~~~ ~~ ~~~~ ~~~ ~~ ~~~~~ ~~~ ~~~~ ~~~

I use flax oil in salads/smoothies and flax seeds in dehydrated crackers. It tastes like butter to me, its nice with corn and salt. Flax oil should be bought in a dark amber glass container, and refridgerated and used up with a week or two, it can go rancid very quickly. That's when it will taste bad. I prefer hemp oil, its one of the few plant sources that contain Omega 3 and Omega 6.It's complete food. I think hemp is the most beneficial oil to consume, but I like the taste of olive oil and flax oil.... Here's a good website with more info http://www.sunfood.com/cgi-bin/order/index.cgi?id=187144125529&c=Raw/Organic_ Food&sc=Oils/Liquids IP: Logged |

Fayte: quote: I hope it is not expensive.
Most stores carry both "name brand" flax seeds and also their "store brand." So if you see expensive bags on the shelf, ask if they have a store equivalent, or if perhaps they have a "bulk" section where you bag your own amount for much less. There is no difference in taste or benefits. I buy my local store's brand and it is $1 cheaper per bag! Online 1 pound (16 oz) of whole seeds for $2.99 USD: http://www.shopnatural.com (just search for "flax seed" and several brands and prices will come up) 1 pound (16 oz) of whole seeds for $2.44 USD: http://www.herbalremedies.com/flaxseedcero.html I believe those sites also sell ground flaxseeds for a small amount more. And if you are looking for flaxseed oil softgels, this site has 3 bottles of 60 each for $5.49, or 6 bottles of 60 each for $10.98: http://www.puritan.com/pages/file.asp?xs=950F5E00F2A7452D8459A647F1B34D02&PID=64 Good luck in your shopping!
