As some of you may know, I do massage therapy and I find that lately there are a lot of women with serious issues stemming from rape and/or incest.

I'm trying to find out if anyone here knows of any other methods of healing that might help them. Some have been in and out of counseling. Others have tried hypnotism, and massage therapy.

From what I understand, all of these methods work to some extent but they don't seem to find closure from any of them. Is this possible? I know I'm probably taking on more than I can handle, but I can't stand to see people suffering. When they're a sobbing wreck it just tears me apart.

Anyone have any suggestions?

aquaspry-the massages should be a great part of healing!! A few years back we ran a survivors group...survivors after incest, survivors after spousal rape, survivors after rape and/or abuse. A lot of emotional trauma surfacing (which ends up being a good thing), suicidal imaging, rage, cutting, sleep problems, post trauma shock- Some stuff that helped: TALKING about the assault(s) with others who have had similar experiences. The victim realizes they are not the only one who has had these things happen and also that they CAN share and CAN support others.
WRITING-Keeping a journal. Write free verse style as mich as possible; not worrying about grammer or syntax. Have "Specific" writing subjects AND free writing. Some writing done on red paper concerning bad memories or things and burned as ceremony at a certain time, like midnight.
HITTING STUFF: old sofa cushions for instance or a scarecrow representing an attacker or attack. Ball bats and broomhandles are good tho some like the softer plastic or rubber bats. Very good when accompanied by verbalizations like, "No!" "You hurt me!" etc
PRIMAL HOWLING and SCREAMING: You need the right place for this one! This gets the rage and sorrow/anger/fright a living exit!
Howl the wound, scream the shame/rage/whatever.
SUFI FIRE BREATHING
Grounding meditations.
Tai Chi
"Ground Your Navel Exercise"-lay belly down arms down along sides of body with thumbs making a connection to body. Legs need big toes touching each other. Head turned to one side or another. Belly/navel touching floor/ground/carpet. Visualize a circular door opening around the navel area and negativity flowing into the ground, back to Mother Earth for recycle...Visualize strength/hope/light etc coming up into the area replacing the negative. People often go to sleep during this one. Let them.
Also when someone was opened up from the evening and in pain or having thoughts of hurting themselves it has to be dealt with before everyone going home-these two things work. For those that think cutting themselves or hurting themselves might occur we gave a red Sharpie pen or another washable kind. Anywhere on the body a person might harmthemselves, we had them draw the hurt on with the red markers...pseudo cutting? They could wear the ink as they would the scar or cut..
Also! SOUR SOUR CANDY or bitters-An intense taste of either seems to click the mind off the self destruct or the painful memory quick! Love Tuxedo Meow

AquaSpryte, I personally do not have anything to offer you, but I am posting here just to tell you how great your efforts are, and taking time to wish you the very best. Will pray to send you enough energy to handle things right, be focussed!

tuxedo meow and SattvicMoon, thanks for responding. I totally forgot about this inquiry.

tux, Sour candy? Who'da thunk it? Odd that I have never like sour candy.

I'll definitely keep in mind the journaling. Sufi Fire Breathing?"Ground Your Navel Exercise"? Never heard of either, but will look into them both.

Thank you so much!!!!

I got over my childhood rapes and other issues by having someone I trust tell me to say over and over until emotion could break through....
"It(naming each abuse specifically) wasn't my fault" until I broke into loud body shuddering sobbing and copious tears. It was extremely purging and soul freeing.
In the movie "Goodwill Hunting" The psychiatrist played by Robin Williams does that to Matt Damon playing the character Will Hunting.

(((fayte.m)))

Thank you for sharing. :bmoon:

I started massage therapy with the ambition to help survivors of sexual abuse heal. I see now, in my sobriety, that I was also looking for a way to heal myself.

I went through 18 yrs of hell with my biological father. Not to mention all the abusive foster homes I was thrown in and forgotten about for months by CPS.

I suffered from severe mood swings, drug and alcohol addictions and had epileptic seizures from the age of 2 yrs old.

The seizures stopped as soon as I was out of his house. (imagine that!!) I'm doing really, really good with my sobriety, but my anger from all of it has been the hardest to deal with. I am in an AA anger management, but I don't feel comfortable talking about the abuse there. I'm trying to journal again, but after having my journals read (by men!!) three times, I'm having difficulty starting this time.

I'm seeing that in order for me to heal, I need to focus on helping others. It sounds selfish, and I feel bad and guilty for it, but it's what helps me, too.

Wow, that all just came pouring out. Maybe I am ready to journal again.

Thank you, fayte.m!!

I can relate. I was in an orphanage for a time (to get away from beatings and abuse at home} and there were abusers at the orphanage
too, molesting the younger children. I ran away from there and spent a month in a detention center for 8 to 17 year olds; which has long since been shut down due to abuses done there to the inmates for no reason other than sadistic delight. They made us run on rough concrete and gravel in the noon sun until our feet blistered and bled and made us drink and brush our teeth from the toilets. We newbies were sometimes chained to our beds and long timers{mostly murderers waiting for real prison life sentences once they turned 18! Not just runaways and shoplifters etcetera)) stayed loose to play black and blue on us and if we complained we got tossed in solitary. A lovely little room only big enough to stand in where one usually stayed a minimum of 24 hours, no food, no water, no toilet.(More than 24 hours one got breaks) Once out of there if one had crapped or urinated in one's clothes one was ridiculed and made to wash them in the toilet and hang them on a bunk to dry. I got released from the center the day a new matron guard came. She recognized me and bandaged my bloody feet. Get this....she had been my kindergarten teacher!
Later as an emancipated minor I made a go at life on my own and work and finishing high school. I have ranted enough here, that is another long story.
Thank you aquaspryt69 and for helping folks and for helping yourself!
Blessings to you!

Good Lord, fayte!!! What a nightmare!!

{{{{{HUGS}}}}}

See? It's stories like yours that made me want to help women in their healing. Just when you think you've heard the most horrifying story ever, someone else comes along with an even worse one.

I get so angry when I hear such ghastly stories! How can sh*t like that be allowed to happen?! Same thing with nursing home abuse. How the hell do these friggin places hire people who are physically and sexually abusive?!!!!!

Whoa. I have to let this go for now. I'm getting way too ****** off and that's not a good attitude for me to go in to work with.
And people wonder why I have problems with anger management.

Gee, let's see, what am I ****** off about today? Pick a topic. Any topic.

Thank YOU, fayte and many, many blessings to YOU!!

fayte~I finally watched "Good Will Hunting". It has been sitting on the shelf for months. After you mentioned it, I had to watch it. What a great movie!

I've missed so many good movies. Thanks to this Leo I'm with I go to the movies a lot more. We're going to see "Stardust" when it hits theaters. I hope it's as good as the previews make it out to be.

Thanks again, (((((fayte)))))

faytem. sending love and light to your inner child and your grown-up woman s-elf. those thieves of innocence are the hardest to love and forgive and let go...i find it easier to remember it is the soul i am sending such to and not the earth-skin-monsters. Tuxie too went thru torture, abuse and even some physical mutilation except from family who keep THE SECRET and still insist Tux is just a whacko liar. except the scars speak. My friend and fellow poet Judy Ruiz writes "That which scars us we own." Blaze writes, "I wish I had a subpump for my heart. It drowns in the tears my eyes refuse." Love peace and light to all us and you's. Tuxie

Thanks Alia. Btw, nice to meet another Phoenician in LL.

tuxie, I bought two "stoopid sticks" the other day. I haven't had so much fun or laughed so hard in a long time. It's fun beating things up with these foam sticks.

I can only recall having met one other person who was in the Phx area, but I do believe she's left.
